Climate Change and its First Effect on College Football
The USDA has updated something called the Plan Hardiness Zone Map. You can read about it here. Here is what the map represents:
Plant hardiness zone designations represent the average annual extreme minimum temperatures at a given location during a particular time period. They do not reflect the coldest it has ever been or ever will be at a specific location, but simply the average lowest winter temperature for the location over a specified time. Low temperature during the winter is a crucial factor in the survival of plants at specific locations.
And why is there an updated version of this map?
Compared to the 1990 version, zone boundaries in this edition of the map have shifted in many areas. The new map is generally one 5-degree Fahrenheit half-zone warmer than the previous map throughout much of the United States.
What does this have to do with college football?
ESPN Confuses Bobby Dodd Images, Issues Correction
Earlier this week, I had Sports Center on in the background. I wasn't really paying attention to it too much, but I perked up when I heard Chris McKendry issue a network apology for airing images of Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd when discussing the recent sexual allegations involving former Amateur Athletic Union president Robert "Bobby" Dodd.

Dwyer Fails a Drug Test, But Not Really
The AJC passed along a foxsports.com story about Jonathan Dwyer's having tested positive for amphetamines at the NFL combine. Embedded in the article is the explanation that this was due to a prescription drug Dwyer uses for a "pre-existing condition", but apparently the original headline--later changed by Doug Robertson--simply said he failed a drug test. Even UGA fans considered this poor journalism, and everyone piled on the author in the comment section.
