SLC Dunk Why I want KOC out

I'll just be flat out honest. I don't like the guy. I believe you can tell a person or the GM by the move he makes. Like the boneheaded move to snatch Carlos Boozer away from the Cavs organization. It just shows that KOC will do ANYTHING to get a player. And one might argue that he did nothing wrong and that if that's what it takes to get good players, so be it. Well, I hate his mentality and his thought process. He forgot that what goes around comes around.

KOC, you knew that Boozer had to dishonor his words and compromise his integrity when he sneaked behind the Cavs organization to sign with the Jazz. And you had no problem with such a player joining our organization? Well, I don't like a player who plays life like that because his character showed come playoff time.

KOC seems like a sneezy businessman type GM. No honor, no integrity.

Second, I HATE his draft philosophy: pick the best player on the board. What is this? So, if the draft happens that a big man is the best player on the board, we keep picking bigs? And what guarantee is there that that person is the best player at that spot? NONE. It's completely speculation. One of the dumbest philosophies out there. It's a risky move and that's how KOC plays. Risk over stability. Buying lottery tickets over investing in a bond. Gambling over saving money.

What's more pertinent and wise is to pick correct pieces to fit the team. Pick players that will fit the system, the family. That's why I respect RC Buford. He picks players that will fit the system, rather than go off the whole speculative business. KOC picked Kanter and Burks at 3 and 12. I mean, I like Kanter and Burks but Buford got Leonard at 15. I say Buford made the most out of his pick.

Lastly, he's horrible at judging character. D.Will is a good player. I don't hate him, but no player gets into shouting matches with a Hall of Fame coach. I don't care how badly you want to win, or how popular you are, there's a line and a better way to communicate. The issue has nothing to do with the desire to win, it's about RESPECT. KOC goes off the whole physical qualities than going after the heart of players. It's like a tech nerd drooling over specs of a device, it's like judging a person by their outer appearance, book by its cover. For example, if I were KOC, I would've picked Chris Paul over D.Will any day. KOC's logic on picking D.Will over Chris Paul is flawed and elementary. "D.Will is bigger so he's the better defender." Wrong. Chris Paul is the better defender. "D.Will has size so he won't get injured." Wrong. Injury has nothing to do with a players physique. You judge a player by their heart, not their physical qualities. (This is the same KOC that drafted Raul Lopez over Tony Parker)

I've gone off again. But let me just reiterate my sentiments. I don't like KOC and I would like to see him go. Bring in someone with more class, integrity, and honor. Because that kind of GM will have a better vision of who to pick and want kind of players to bring in.

SLC Dunk A turbulant year for the Jazz

I was frustrated on how things panned out, how things were handled, how our beloved coach had to end his record defying coaching tenure in such bitter manner.  It was a virtue for a coach and organization to keep that level of trust and respect and produce success each and every year for over 20 years.  No team in any sports has seen such a long tenure.  And I don't think there was any NBA organization that was that consistent in winning.  Every team had their ups and downs, even the Lakers, the Celtics and the Spurs.  I've seen those teams struggle while the Jazz consistently had winning records and made the playoffs every year.  That's called success and a blessing to us fans to enjoy good basketball.

Now?  We no longer have that solid foundation.  It's about starting anew.

Yes, I was mad at a particular player for not dealing with the issue with his coach in a more respectable and constructive manner.  But, now I want to make peace.  I have no ill towards that player.  I wish the best for Williams.  I wish him success and a glorious career.

The Jazz had to go through a lot this season; the many altercations and team in-fighting, the sudden shock of losing our coach and not being able to send him off in dignity and respect (after his 26 years of service, at least a standing ovation, right?  It was an ugly ending and it still doesn't feel RIGHT), the unexpected trade of All-Star franchise worthy player Williams, the constant losing especially at home.  The players had to endure a lot and still are going through pain especially after losing two close games to top caliber teams.

Yes, it is painful to watch our team lose.  We're not a losing team.  We never lose 2 or is it 3 consecutive home games.  No team dare comes to our arena and beats us.  NOBODY.  That's what 26 years of dedication and wisdom Jerry has brought us.  He KNOWS how to win.  That's what we were missing during the last two games.  The difference between the Nuggets and the Jazz?  The Nuggets also traded their All-Star player but have been playing top ball.  Here's the difference:  They have a solid foundation.  Coach Karl is an excellent coach.  They're adhering to the coach and are more composed, comfortable, and effective with a system in tact down the stretch.  That's the difference.

Now, the Jazz will rebound.  I truly believe that.  I believe the management have the right mindset and are willing to continue the tradition.  They've shown that by the signing of coach Corbin.  That's a progressive step forward.

And to be fair, to be winning all of a sudden like nothing happened, like all the negativity and all the drama never happened, would be silly.  The team is trying to find their face, identity.  They will struggle.

So, I don't mind them losing.  I see more energy, more up-tempo running, hustling and spirit.  It's been enjoyable watching the team play competitive ball.  Both the Celtics and the Nuggets had only good things to say about the Jazz.  We all know that the officiating determined both outcomes (the Nuggets got 25 freethrow attempts in the 4th alone while the Jazz got 12 freethrows the entire game.  Are you kidding me?  And the Devin Harris defense on Lawson, the Millsap steal, and Kenyon Martin bumbling to name a few.).  But again, if the Jazz were facing sudden success, they would not be able to grow together as a team.  As painful it is, this is needed for the team to grow stronger.  Funny thing is, I enjoy watching the Jazz even after loses.

SLC Dunk The New "starting over" Jazz

No one expected a complete revamp coming this season.

New coach and trade of team leader and All-Star PG Deron Williams.

It was a rocky road, in 30 years, the Jazz never lose 5 consecutive homes games until now.  Rumors of coach and player conflicts and the coach's abrupt resignation.  The unexpected trade of a superstar, one of the highly talked about trades this season.  For sure this season, a lot of media attention was gained, generally stuff you didn't want to hear about.

All I am HOPING is that management made the right moves.  I hope that the team is a better team than yesterday.  I hope they find a good groove and hit it off.

I don't want to hear any rumors or reports of locker room disputes and in-fighting.  I had enough of a fragmented team playing poorly.  In my opinion, nothing else is more damaging to a team than team inner conflict.

Now, I want to address some issues the Jazz are having as a team.

1. The Jazz are a poor defensive team this year.  I don't know where to attribute this to.  They have some good individual defensive players; Bell, Jefferson (2 blocks per game), AK (somewhat less effective now), and Millsap who leads the team in steals.  The best I can attribute it to is the lack of team rotation or a team oriented defensive effort.  What's everyone's thought on this?

2. The Bench is still very "meager" and depleted.  Watching the Dallas game the other night was painful.  The Jazz were competitive and right there through half time.  Again, defense wise, the Mavs shot 58% from the field.  The bench: CJ 16pts (2-9 shooting), Hayward 2 pts, Elson 4 pts.  That was it!  It doesn't help that starter Raja only had 5 pts, Watson 7 pts.  With the loss of our only guard who could score, Williams, we have zero guard presence!  Someone who can score for us.  Of course we were missing Harris but he's still not a scorer.

3. Could we give our bigs a break?  Jefferson was working his butt off.  30 pts, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, and zero turnover.  Millsap was working hard, constantly fighting double teams.  18pts, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals.  Repeat, 4 steals.  People tend to get critical with Jefferson, calling him a failed experiment but I would like to state otherwise.  His numbers have been getting better by the month.  It's his first year in a new system and it's unfair to already be impatiently calling him a failure.  In fact, Jefferson kept us in the game.  He was 11 out of 14 from the field.  I believe the problem lies in the fact that we don't have a true scorer.  A Jason Terry, Manu, Horny, Eric Gordon, Monta Ellis...the list goes on and on and on.  Every team has one.  We don't.  D.Will was the guy, being a PG, he had to carry on that burden and I don't think that's the most efficient way for a PG to be your main scorer.

What I hope to see.

1. More playtime for Favors.  He needs it to develop and grow.  Experience will do it.  He needs to develop fast and adjust quickly so that he's a force inside.  His + : great offensive rebounder and defender.  Freak athlete who needs the confidence of his coach and teammates.  All I can say is that this guy has some talent.  He's got talent and if he's got the heart to work hard and be committed, this kid's going to be great.

4. Next years draft pick.  Please pick a scorer!!  Not a shooter, but a gifted player with good instincts on how to score points.  Every team knows that the Jazz like to score in the paint and they pack it in.  We need someone who can score from outside to alleviate that pressure on Jefferson and Millsap.

Hate or like the deal, this is our new team and I hope everyone can embrace em.  Harris seems like a genuinely nice kid, Favors also, very reserved and quiet kid from a small town who goes about his business and works hard.

I hope everyone can embrace the new team and hope for a bright future.

What are you guys thoughts on the new team and what do you think is most needed for the team?

SLC Dunk Jazz Fans Need to Stand Up

D.Will has turned our once proud organization into a joke.  Isn't anyone mad that Sloan's career ended like this?  No one going to stand up for Sloan?  Phil Johnson displayed to the end what loyalty and honor is.  As a fan myself, I am no longer rooting for the Jazz and the punk kid D.Will.  If some punk kids were being mean to my pops, harassing him, even to the point of making my pops quit his job, I would not let that kid get away with it.  We, as fans, are letting D.Will do whatever he wants, condoning his actions by cheering him on, rooting for him as if nothing happened.

Did anyone see last night's game and saw how hard D.Will was playing?  He was hustling, going for blocks, running through screens, playing hearts out.  D.Will never hustles or plays defense.  And even with his effort, he still couldn't guard anyone.  The rookie burned D.Will, driving to the lane at will.  D.Will wanted badly to win the game, to show that he's better off without a coach whom preaches discipline and order.  Well, the first half was about that hyped up energy, but in the second half the real Jazz showed up.  Disorganized, no team unity, identity, and chaos.

Greg Miller is a douche.  Yes, I said it.  The Jazz organization, has lost its integrity, honor, and its tradition has gone down the drains.  How hard the late Larry H. Miller, Frank Layton, Jerry Sloan, and all the great past players worked to build the organization into a respectable one.  It is embarrassing that our proud team of tradition has turned into this, to let a kid do whatever he wants, to run the entire team.

After pressuring and punking coach Sloan into resignation, D.Will will leave us next year.  Like they say, "It's all about business."  He'll turn our organization into a mess and straight up leave.  He has no responsibility, no sense of ownership, nor loyalty.

If I were Greg Miller, I would have traded D.Will on the fly if I knew he was messing with the coach like that.  Larry H. Miller wouldn't have ever allowed no punk player to be bigger than the coach.

D.Will, there is a reason the San Antonio Spurs have the best record in the league.  If you want to be a real superstar, a legend, learn from Tim Duncan and how he goes about the business of being a professional.

SLC Dunk I hate you Jerry Sloan

Hate,in truth, meaning love.

He broke my heart.  It's not fair what he did to us, the fans, quitting abruptly unannounced like that.  I've been following the Jazz for over 15 years.  I've been a faithful fan and for him to quit on me like that was uncalled for.  There are emotions and memories associated.  He didn't give us, the fans, a chance to bid him a proper farewell.  How cruel!  I wanted to thank him and express how much he has meant to me.  Leaving like that, it feels like a part of my heart has been ripped out.

It hurt to see the once immovable man stubborn as a rock to display tenderness with teary eyes during the press conference.  It hurt to see the old man be emotional.  He became soft with age, not being able to tell his star player to shut up and sit down.  D.Will became too big, with the ridiculous money players make and all the attention they get from the media, he put the pressure on the old Sloan.  The greatest point guard ever, John Stockton, would have never undermined his coach in any manner even if he was the greatest.  That is no way to treat an old man.  Show respect, he's lead his team to two NBA finals.  Show respect.

I was hoping in my heart that he'd get the COY award anytime soon.  It was his turn, long long over due.  It wasn't fair that he never got it, ever once.  Whomever decides the award, the journalist or whomever votes, ripped him off.  One of the greatest coaches of all time and never a single COY award?  He deserved it several times over.

Sloan represented one of the last of Old School.  Another Old Schooler has left, and I'm heartbroken.  I have such fond memories of the good old times.

I'll miss you coach Sloan.  You were one of the greatest and thank you for all that you've done for the team and the fans.

SLC Dunk The Jazz needs a new leader

I'm getting tired of Deron William's inconsistent play.  At his stature (All-Star), he should have matured enough to be a consistent player night in and out.  The point guard is the soul of the team.  Teammates look to their point guard for guidance.  If Deron has a lack luster attitude, it shows, and that negative energy will rub onto his teammates.  He never seemed like a true leader.  Sure, he's talented and has plenty of skills but I'm talking about leadership, that vibe that one has which keeps your teammates ready and hungry; you know like for say John Stockton, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, LeBron James to name a few.  A leader will show up day in and day out, work hard, and always be a reliable person, motivating teammates when they're down, uniting the team with that leadership.  I won't ask for much, just that consistent play.  Consistent play means reliability and maturity.  Without such qualities as the leader of a team, I fear that the team wont go far.  And yes, I am challenging Deron William's character.

You go out on the road and play horrible against a weak team (Sacramento) and apologize for it (admission of guilt) and get angry (another sign of immaturity) and shoot the lights off against Houston, then play horrible on the road against another bad team (Clippers).  I can't handle all these mood swings in attitude and production.

Next, he's a turnover hog.  To be exact, 5th in the league right after LeBron James (and without James's production).  In Jerry Sloan's discipline orientated play scheme this cannot be allowed or tolerated.  I cringe when I see all those turnovers.  What else can I say?

The Jazz traded up to get Deron Williams when Chris Paul was there to take.  Why?  Because Deron has a bigger body (and that makes him a better defender and more durable. how absurd is that?)  Don't start with defense because I wasn't planning on going there tonight.  He is not a good defender.  Period.  Simply stated, Chris Paul is the better defender.  Heck, Chris Paul is a better shooter (both FG% and FT%) and scorer, rebounder, passer, stealer, and has 1 less turnover per game.

I might have been too harsh today.  Maybe my standards are up high since I grew up watching Stockton and Malone play like work horses day in and day out.  Or maybe because we're nearing the playoffs (with the race being tight) when the team needs to be in fifth gear but instead plays like its November.

Deron, let's get this team together, committed, and driven.  Play like you love playing ball and guide this team to a successful playoff run.
