Pounding The Rock Thursday.05.03.12 TNT Playoff Game Thread

So another 2 days until the Spurs game, at least we got 2 good games on hand tonight. Can the Knicks and Mavs get back in their series after falling down 2 games to none? or will the Heat and Thunder be one step closer to the 2nd round?

Pounding The Rock Defining Moments of the 2011-2012 Spurs Regular Season

What a crazy season! And to think that this season almost didn’t happen because of the lockout.

The Spurs team that finished the regular season on Thursday is not where nearly the same team that started season. The Spurs transformed themselves from a good team into the best team in basketball. It has been amazing to watch this team grow together. Here are my Top 4 defining moments that helped turning this team from good to great.

Pounding The Rock Who should be the Spurs' Closer?

The closer in my opinion is the player who is the primary playmaker for the last 5 minutes of a close game. The closer is not the player who everybody knows that he is going to take the last shot even if he is being defended my 3 player 30 feet away for the basket.

Sources say the Wiz are now weighing whether it's time to finally surrender McGee -- who for all his potential still routinely finds himself at the heart of Washington's ongoing turbulence -- on the condition that his new team take [Andray] Blatche as well.

I really like McGee, he could be a defensive force on the right team. But Blatche contract is just awful.

The Spurs have a lot they could get rid of in regards to their roster without giving up too much. Richard Jefferson, Danny Green, De Juan Blair and Matt Bonner are 3 starters and 1 guy getting heavy minutes off the bench that Spurs fans can live without.

The NBA Hornets would probably like to get rid of Okafor’s $12 million dollars per season contract, but they need players and/or draft picks to make things worthwhile. With the Spurs, there’s a deal in there somewhere.

I dont think its going to happen, but it is an interesting idea

Very interesting article from timvp from Spurstalk. Nice solid points on why Manu and Kawh should start, and RJ coming off the bench.

Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge and Russell Westbrook headlined the reserves for the Western Conference All-Star team.

Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Steve Nash and Marc Gasol rounded out the West roster, which was announced Thursday.

Congrats TP!!!

A nice article about Pop wanting Blair to be himself on the court, and bring the old Blair back.

"All players are different," Popovich said. "If Tiago Splitter tried to do what Kevin Love does, he’d probably be pretty unsuccessful. If we tried to get DeJuan Blair to play like Tiago, he would be unsuccessful."

As the Spurs return to Dallas today for a matinee against the NBA champion Mavericks, the 22-year-old Blair remains on a path of self-rediscovery.

Blair sums up Popovich’s "just be who you are" order in two words: "Energy and rebounding."

Pretty good analysis from plays both teams ran in Thursday's game

Check out the play that the Lakers run at 4:07, and how Kobe shows the great teammate he is.

Jones will earn the $1 million veteran's minimum this season, combined with the $1.5 million buyout sum he is owed for the upcoming season. Jones passed up more money elsewhere. San Antonio reportedly was interested in giving him part of its $6 million mid-level exception.

Now that the Richard Jefferson has opted out of his contract, it’s fair to say the Spurs will target a wing in free agency. Although Jefferson’s deal brings the Spurs close to the cap line, they’re still limited to exception money and veteran minimums. In addition to this, they hold Bird Rights on Matt Bonner and Richard Jefferson.

The Chicago Bulls have a deal in place that would move Kirk Hinrich and the 17th pick to the Washington Wizards, freeing up enough cap space to pursue two maximum-salary players on this summer's free-agent market, sources with knowledge of the Bulls' plans said Thursday.

It wasn't immediately clear what Washington would send to Chicago in the trade
