Derek Jeter on Chemistry

SEE? If Cap'n Jetes says it, it must be true? In all seriousness, this debate is pretty much awful.

Redding back in 2010?

Yay...0.1 WAR over the whole season...god dammit.

Totally unrelated to baseball; this is just the best sports related story I've ever seen.

MLB's 10 Scrappiest Players

Eckstein at #5??? Recount! Recount! Besides that, it's perfect. Most players under 6 feet tall, mostly white guys, a Yankee and a Phillie and a Red Sock are #3, #2, and #1, respectively. And of course, no Mets. God, kill me.

Why is it that when I read these comments, I want to punch someone in the face? And why do I imagine them writing it with a thick New York accent?

Toby Hyde Plans For 2010

5

Toby Hyde does a fantastic job both dissecting (and taking to task) Jayson Stark's...umm...article... and providing quality opinions on conceivable upgrades for next year. The latter has been sorely lacking from "experts" such as Stark, instead relying upon cliched half truths and stupid trade proposals.

As for Manuel, forget it. He stays. Given the incredible run of injuries and other issues with the Mets this season, John McGraw would have lost with this bunch. There are far more significant issues than the manager's chair.

This is how the world thinks.

Chattiest Announcers- Wall Street Journal

I think it's funny that Cohen and Kay talk almost exactly the same amount. The only difference is, out of Gary's words, 90% are intelligent, as opposed to Kay's 3%.

Phillies Fans At It Again

That's just ridiculous. How can anyone from that area even defend their fanbase anymore?

Minaya and Manuel back for 2010

I know this doesn't guarantee anything, but this is the most depressing thing that could be said right now.

Et tu, Alex Cora?

Guess who's having season ending surgery.

Bobby Parnell's Day On

In his second big league start, Bobby Parnell dominated the Giants with his mid-nineties heat and surprisingly competent slider.

Jerry want Sheffield for Next Year

THIS is why we don't win championships, or win divisions.

New York Baseball Digest Podcast Aug 10, 2009

The conversation between Mike Silva and Howard Megdal on statistical analysis and WAR specifically goes from 37:50 to 49:07. But, in my opinion, the most interesting part is at 47:15... "And I say this because coming from sabermetricians, okay, and sabermetricians, you gotta understand this, sabermetricians, for the past couple of years, has lobby for a front office position. They has lobby myself, they has lobby Howard Megdal. So when these things came out I was kind of a little bit, I had to think about it. And I was a little bit, you know, somewhat, kind of, we gotta find out about this. We really have to do a thorough investigation of this."

Aaron Harang (and Bronson Arroyo) clear waivers

15

THIS is the type of move we have to make. From 05-07, Harang was a Cy Young contender and even last year during an injury plagued season was worth 2 wins above replacement. He's already doing well this year, with 2.3 WAR on the season. He has a tRA of 4.73, which woud put him 3rd on the team behind Johan Santana and Jon Niese. And Bronson Arroyo sucks.

Joel Sherman on how to fix the Mets

Since when are we dropping in payroll?

"I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation..." ...Angel Berroa has been released.

Parnell to start?

I guess I'm in favor of this, I dunno...

The Mets GM in Waiting

12

According to Heyman, Ricco is the next in line should Omar be fired. That's awesome. Maybe he can build on Church for Francouer with awesome trades like F! for Vernon Wells or David Wright for Emilio Bonifacio.

Tony B.'s Culture of Fear

5

Mike Silva has more Tony B. stories. So now we see that Rubin WASN'T making up stories, MORE stories exist, and that Rubin WAS NOT vendetta-ing against the organization to get a job. Ok? Can we fiya Minaya now?

Do Some F***ing Research!

Just pure idiocy. That's not the farm system, Madden, that's called depth. And that's Omar Minaya's department. Jesus Christ...

Flores’ teenage running buddy, 18-year-old 3B Jefry Marte was 3-4. Marte hit .217/.257/.315 in 276 AB before the All-Star Break, but is stroking it to the tune of .316/.352/.459 in 98 AB since. It’s a pretty remarkable turnaround.

Toby Hyde on Jefry Marte. Once again, I preach patience.

A converted catcher, Thole has improved enough behind the plate to be an average defensive catcher....

A converted catcher, Thole has improved enough behind the plate to be an average defensive catcher. Offensively, the left-handed prospect is a gifted hitter who walks more than he strikes out (1.32 BB/K) and hits for a high average. Thole does lack power in his bat, which limits his ceiling a little bit. However, you won’t find many left-handed hitting catchers in the Majors that can hit .300.

Fangraphs on Josh Thole.
