"Sources say Houston, which has the No. 14 pick, is interested in moving up in the draft. One potential partner might be Sacramento, as the Kings are believed to be open to such a move in exchange for impactful veteran help."

NBA Proposes Unique ‘Franchise Tag’ to Union

"The NBA proposed to the players’ union last month a version of the "franchise tag" that it wants to include in the next collective bargaining agreement, according to sources familiar with the matter. The tag, however, would be very different from the NFL’s version, which allows a team to essentially block one of its free agents from entering the market by binding him to his incumbent team with a one-year contract that carries a high salary based on various parameters. The system the league has presented would not work this way, according to sources. Instead, a team would be allowed to designate one player for preferential contractual treatment, including more overall money, more guaranteed money and at least one extra year on his contract. A player would have to agree to such a designation. It is designed to work as an incentive to get a player to remain with his team rather than as a roadblock to free agency, the sources said." - Zach Lowe, Sports Illustrated

Zeller, Henson stay at North Carolina

North Carolina made it to the Elite Eight last month. Its chances of making the Final Four next season got a big boost when forwards Tyler Zeller and John Henson both announced they would stay in school.

I have never seen a performance like what Fredette did tonight. New Mexico really was not playing bad defense. They tried strength, speed and length and nothing worked. He could have shot 50 percent from the third row of the stands and had popcorn between shots without spilling any."

You’ll hear a lot about how the Kings turned Kevin Martin, briefly a franchise player, into Landry and then Thornton, and how horribly Sacramento president Geoff Petrie did in that sequence. That’s an easy argument to make, but remember the context. The Martin-Evans pairing didn’t appear to be working last season (though it didn’t get all that much of a chance), and the Kings used Martin to get a look at a player in Landry who was at the time a darling of NBA die-hards. (I had forgotten, by the way, that Larry Hughes was hilariously involved in the three-way New York-Sacramento-Houston trade that bought Landry to the Kings.) The Landry thing didn’t work out, and so here we are. There have been many worse series of personnel moves, and there will be more — maybe starting Wednesday."

Something of a jack of all trades, [Marcus] Thornton even got a whole possession per game in the post [at LSU], and is the type of player that can contribute for almost any type of team. He can do so many different things that he’s a good fit in most systems, so long as he doesn’t have to put the ball on the floor a great deal in half court settings to create offense."

The Kings have the cap space to swallow [Troy] Murphy’s deal, and in an ideal world without financial concerns, a struggling team like Sacramento should jump at the chance to nab a couple of first-rounders in exchange for paying the last third of Murphy’s 2010-11 salary. But we don’t live in that world, and neither do the Maloofs."

Fredette: Potential Steal of 2011 Draft?

DX has Fredette going in the mid-2nd round in June. I'm not sure how many STR frequenters are familiar with his game but at the beginning of the second round I believe he could be a tremendous selection and potential fit with Tyreke. In the right system, he might be able to have an immediate impact like Landry Fields has in New York. I know the Knicks nearly gave Fredette a guarantee last June, but he ended up coming back to school. The kid is insanely good offensively.

Fisher Staying with Titans, Young Leaving

Is Vince Young now a realistic QB option for San Francisco?

Jermaine Taylor article via TDS provides context to trade with Kings

We'll leave it to Taylor to express his thoughts on the situation, via his Twitter account: First, November 2nd at 8 a.m. - "I really hope the rockets lets me know something soon..." Now, just three hours ago, November 6th at 11:00 a.m. - "Beyond frustrated...feels like I'm being lied 2" Is it a stretch to assume that Taylor is frustrated with... the Rockets? I don't think so.

Jimmer runs wild on Arizona, BYU wins 87-65

Deseret News reported Dick Harmon tweeted that Sean Miller may need to call the Fringe Division to stop Fredette. I had no idea that Olivia Dunham gave Jimmer mono last year.

There were plenty of classic moments from the homecoming trip: Jimmer was met by cameras at the airport. He appeared at an assembly at his old high school. He threw an around-the-back, fastbreak pass to Kyle Collinsworth for a layup. But the most indelible image from the whole viewing experience, for me, didn't involve Fredette: It was the moment ... when CBS' cameras zoomed in on the Evan Fjeld/Noah Hartsock duel in the post ... and I briefly worried that they'd cut to vintage footage from a Balkan-state senior league."

For a city that's hosted the likes of Aerosmith, Phish, and the Ringling Brothers, last night may have been the greatest spectacle of all. An overflow crowd of 6,400 fans jammed into the 4,800 seat Glens Falls Civic Center to witness the return of one of New York State's greatest basketball players ever, Glens Falls' own Jimmer Fredette. Like he has countless times before, the Brigham Young senior point guard rose to the occasion."
