Eric Winston interview on AA

Good stuff here, worth a read

Weekly Mock Draft Thread

Well, the Chiefs officially have their QB. I don't want this thread to be another debate or vent session about the trade... it's done, they overpaid, but got "their guy". Free Agency and the...

In an interview on 610 today, Albert Breer of NFLn says he "knows for a fact that KC is sniffing around the free agent CB market" Looking at PFF's list in the link... who jumps out at you?

Would this make you happy (regarding Alex Smith)

Ok obviously a lot of us including myself are mad about this trade is he better then Cassel probably but not by a long shot. Here's what would make me happy, if we trade down pick up a second, and grab someone like EJ Manuel/Glennon/Wilson etc. in the second and get the best player available with our first round pick. I like Manuel but wouldn't mind seeing him sit under a guy like Smith for a year or two. What do you guys think? Sorry just trying to think of something positive after hearing this news.

(questionable) report indicates Colquitt has a new deal

Good interview about Alex Smith

Danny Parkins - Show Highlights: Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers Insider Matt Maiocco breaks down the Chiefs trade for Alex Smith

Could TJax be staying?

"He walked in and talked to me the other day and he's as square as the door frame," Dorsey said. "He's just a very big guy, he's very strong at the point (of attack)." The Chiefs will remain in a 3-4 alignment under new defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, but will likely employ more aggressive blitz packages similar to the scheme Sutton ran with the Jets. In third-down situations, Sutton could switch to a 4-3 on occasion to give Jackson more opportunities to rush the passer. "I can't wait to see what the coaches are doing to kick him in on third down to see if he can push the pocket," Dorsey said

Weekly Mock Draft Thread

So, the first major cuts have been announced I was mildly surprised by both Boss and Breaston being cut... however, it does bring the offseason plans into focus a bit more. Seems that they...

Titus Young reportedly cut 10 days after being claimed on waivers by Rams. Charles Woodson, who turns 37 this year, released from Packers, but not retiring

Official Weekly AP Mock Thread

For the week of February 11th, here is the open thread to talk about the NFL Draft.

Post Super Bowl Mockery

Now that football is over for the year, the real fun begins... I'd argue that, at least recently, the offseason >the season for Chiefs fans. As soon as TODAY, teams can start cutting players......

from Teicher's chat yesterday

"What is known of Hudson and Alberts injuries? ... .... Both Hudson and Albert should be ready for season, from what I'm hearing. "

Chiefs add a Safety

Update: The Bears twitter account says they have signed Quarles: "Safety Cyhl Quarles is the latest addition to the Chiefs off-season roster, signing as a reserve/future contract. The 6-3, 210-pound Quarles entered the NFL last year as an undrafted rookie free agent from Wake Forest. He was signed by the Baltimore Ravens and played in all four of the team’s 2012 pre-season games, collecting 6 tackles on defense and 2 on special teams. The Ravens released him as part of the final cutdown on August 31st. The Georgia native was signed to the New England practice squad, spending two weeks there before he was released on September 28th. The Patriots added Quarles to the practice squad for the last week of the ’12 regular season. Quarles played 50 games at Wake Forest, collecting 239 total tackles with 2 interceptions."

new PFF OL Rankings

Chiefs slipped a bit... but still solid: "12. Kansas City Chiefs (16) PB – 14th, RB – 9th, PEN – 15th Stud: By his own admission, Eric Winston (+15.9) and the Chiefs fans didn’t exactly hit it off. While he wasn’t exactly perfect this year, he was the most balanced player they had on their line. Dud: The hope is that Jeff Allen (-19.6) improves after a disastrous rookie year. Given that there were signs of improvement in the second half of the 2012, we’d bet on it. Summary: Injuries hurt this line, which was something of a shame. They got strong play from all the guys who were penciled into start, but the problem came when rookies Allen and Donald Stephenson were forced into the lineup. Too much too soon."

Coaching Staff Additions

Al Harris, Defensive Asst- Secondary Mark DeLeone (Quality Control) Brent Salazar (Assistant Strength & Conditioning (retained)

Bucky Brooks on perfect fits for QBs in '13 draft

Reid prefers an athletic playmaker at the position with the agility to elude the pass rush, but someone who also possesses the arm talent to defeat opponents with pinpoint passes. Smith is a standout pocket passer with excellent arm strength. He has the capacity to make pinpoint throws with zip and velocity, while also showing superb touch on anticipatory throws. Although Smith experienced some struggles down the stretch with his pocket awareness as a senior at West Virginia, he is a perfect fit in Reid's version of the West Coast offense that features a mixture of intermediate and movement-based passes.

OFFICIAL AP Mock Draft Thread 1/23-2/4

It's that time again... for those of you who don't remember, we will post one of these threads every week or two, depending on the volume, and encourage all of the Mockers to post their mocks...

Looks like KC DID sign some future contracts for PS players

on 12/31 Matt Szymanski Reserve/Future (reserve/future). Jose Gumbs Reserve/Future (reserve/future). Dustin Waldron Reserve/Future (reserve/future). Luke Patterson Reserve/Future (reserve/future).

Not a complete rebuild

With the Kansas City Chiefs regime change, we can certainly expect a fair amount of turnover on the roster. Much of that turnover will come in the bottom third, however.

Walter suggests Foles to KC...

Also expect them to deal Nick Foles for a mid-round pick - perhaps to Kansas City.

Calls Doug Pederson a "rising star" Said Sutton is an "interesting hire" but that he's a smart, experienced classy guy

Interesting stuff on Sutton

"It’s going to be us or them," linebacker Bart Scott said this week. "For one of us, the dream is over with. We call this thing ‘death ground.’" Linebackers coach Bob Sutton, who for nine seasons coached future soldiers at Army, channeled the philosophy of an ancient Chinese military treatise to mentally prepare his players for the final run of the season.

Walter's latest mock

But if history is any indication, Reid will use this pick on Geno Smith. Reid eschewed all the top free-agent quarterbacks when he took over as the Eagles' head coach, taking a mobile, Big East product with a good deep ball and upside instead. Well, Smith is a mobile, (former) Big East product with a good deep ball and upside. He fits perfectly into Reid's offense. ESPN and other outlets will tell you that Smith nor any other signal-caller is worth taking No. 1 overall, but that could easily change. Remember two years ago when ESPN was mocking Da'Quan Bowers and Nick Fairley to the Panthers? Well, Cam Newton ballooned to the top, as will some other quarterback this year. It could be Smith, Tyler Wilson, Matt Barkley or Glennon. We'll see. Four months is a long time. If this doesn't happen, the Chiefs could always trade down.

Russ Lande mocks Star to KC

Lande has Geno going 14th to the Jets... as the 3rd QB off the board..."he has shown the poise, patience, arm strength and accurate throwing ability to be a quality starting quarterback in the NFL." My question is... IF you believe Geno is a "quality starting QB in the NFL"... WHY would you not draft him for the team desperate for a Quality NFL QB??
