OK, maybe I'm hopping on the bandwagon a little bit prematurely, but I wanted to continue my efforts to generate some discussion of this guy.

In a previous diary I posted his filthy numbers at low and advanced A ball this season.

Well, this week he was called up to AA Birmingham. He made a midweek debut and pitched 2 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits, a BB, and striking out three. Nice start....

Anyway, tonight he made a mockery of Jacksonville hitters in a tight game. He pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit, walking none, AND....striking out 6.

I realize he's 22, and has just 2 outings in AA, but to dominate in the manner that he has dominated is pretty exciting.

A September callup? Highly unlikely, but ya never know.

Stay tuned...

All games are "big" at this point but I look at the next 12 games as an opportunity.

3 @ home vs Texas: With Texeira's power outage and no Soriano in 2006 this is not the same offensive juggernaut of years past. With the Sox facing Wasdin, Koronka and Padilla a sweep isn't out of the question.

3 @ home vs Minnesota: Yes the Twins are playing good ball but the Sox get a break because we will miss Liriano who pitches Sunday. Instead we get Radke, Santana and Silva. Yes, Santana is a lot to deal with, but Conteras (Santana's opponent) can shut down Minnesota (and they are without Hunter).

3 on the road @ Baltimore: Baltimore can swing the bats, but the Sox catch a major break by missing Erik Bedard, who is pitching as well as anybody right now (just 3ER in his last 36IP). The rest of their staff is very hittable.

3 on the road @ KC: This a better team than was on the field at the beginning of the year, but possibly veterans such as Redman and Sanders will be gone.

In summary, I think the top of the order will get healthy over the next 12, with only one ace looming (Santana). Within the last 10 games we have faced Beckett, Schilling, Mussina, Randy Johnson, Robertson, Bonderman and K. Rogers. Again in the next 12, 11 of the pitchers we will face will not be as good as those mentioned above.

So now the bad news...after the current 12 game stretch the Sox will play 24 days straight.

3 @ Toronto
6 against Min
3 against NY
7 against DET
1 against Anaheim
4 against KC

14 of the 24 are at home though.

I realize offense really isn't the issue right now for the White Sox. Despite the two holes in the lineup as it stands on June 1 (Anderson/Uribe), we still have a prolific offense capable of scoring big run totals on a nightly basis.

However, it's not a reach to say that our pitching kind of maxed out last season, and though we have a great starting five, perhaps the names are going to be bigger than the results when it's all said and done in 2006. And, as we have found out early on, other than Jenks it's been difficult to find a reliever to rely on.

So what I'm getting at is does anyone think Tejada would become available, and if he is/will be do you think Kenny Williams would explore a trade?

I remember rumors before the season, but kind of forgot the particulars.

Just wondering......

CF IDEA

At this point as Rob Mackowiak continues to display the bat we thought we were getting when we acquired him from the Pirates, it's becoming more and more apparent that Brian Anderson's playing time is headed south. Absolutely, the White Sox need not give up on Anderson. He is young and has had only a short cup of coffee in the bigs. But I think that he probably is best served by heading back to Charlotte and getting his confidence back at the plate. We will miss his defense no doubt.

Here's the idea.....why not go get a Jay Payton from Oakland. He's in the last year of a contract--I think would only cost a couple of mil for the rest of the year....he hits right-handed and plays solid defense. So basically we set up a platoon with Mackowiak/Payton, and then Payton comes in defensively in the late innings on days Mackowiak starts.

CF OPTION???????????

I just noticed the other day that former Twin/Met/Indian/Yankee/Cub/Pirate and most recently Mariner Matt Lawton was released. His steroid involvement aside, I think he is a decent low-cost, low-risk option to bring in for some added outfield depth. Is he better than Mackowiak? Probably not, but for what he would cost it might not be a bad decision to bring him in.
