Cat Scratch Reader NFL Shield at midfield

I have no problem with Jerry Richardson being a figurehead for the league and having the NFL logo at midfield. However, this decision by Richardson should cause the NFL to treat the Panthers better.

Don't we deserve some primetime games every now and then for this. Come on, they put the cheifs on, the jaguars, and some teams are on primetime over 3 times. Panthers haven't had one in the last two years. This is a bunch of crap. If the NFL can't figure out a way to make this happen, the Panthers should remove the NFL logo from OUR field.. the ones that we built??

Someone should write a letter to Roger Goodell and Jerry Richarson, and Danny Morrison!

Cat Scratch Reader Observations from Week 1

The Panthers look like we can be a playoff team this year, if the issues that need to be addressed are.

Did you notice how on one play, we only had one man to the left of center, and on some plays, gross played the "te" slot, and olsen was on the left side. I like this approach, in stacking one side. We certainly need the help with the running game.

Did you notice how every skill position player that played excluding Brockel and Hartstock had a reception( Smith, Naanee, Lafell, Olsen, Shockey, Williams, Stewart, Goodson)..

I saw a lot of 2 WR, TE lined up off the line sets. This puts our best 3 or 4 out, instead of having Edwards out, we could bring shockey and olsen. In fact, I was dissapointed that the panthers didn't have SHOCKEY out on the last play. They had (Goodson, Naanee, Smith, Olsen, Lafell). Shockey could have powered his way past that defender. He was 1 yd short of the first down, just as Newton was 1 yd short of the Panthers single game passing record- Chris Weinke 423 yds.

Looks like there were some breakdowns in coverage, but for the most part we held our own keeping Fitzgerald and Heap in check. I was dissapointed in the run defense SHOCKER. We need to bring in a big run stopper soon, so he can learn the defense. I liked dropping hardy/johnson into coverage. I didn't like Pugh in w/ Godfrey at nickel.. it didn't work, we need to bring Butler in in those situations.

Did you notice how we didn't go for the field goal when we were on the 35. THATS A 53 YD FIELD GOAL... Punt coverage needs better players, we need connor, senn, hardy, lafell good tacklers out on pt. Penalties,

Rivera needs to buckle down on the discipline of these guys.

YES WE CAM!!!!

We might have a shot at beating the Packers..

We did get lucky a couple of times, roughing the passers, fumbles..

Cat Scratch Reader Major Offseason Predictions.. Yes it is only Week 9

Alright, the debate now with Moore gone for the season, and a grim outlook on the next half of the season, we must decide to look on. What do we need to change is the major question? Who is responsible for this poor season? What do we need to get back on the winning track?

Cat Scratch Reader Position by Position Analysis

Sort of like they do in the Roar:

Quarterback:

We have two quality guys in Moore, Clausen, another has a great arm and potential to be a starter, Cantwell, and then Pike is unproven. Now given that Pike has thrown one ball all preseason, his value to our team is 0 out of 100. Yes he has good size and did well at college level, but he needs experience, and he doesn't know the speed of the NFL.

Cat Scratch Reader Franchise Peppers

Clearly, Peppers doesn't want to be in Carolina anymore, and it would be too much to keep him here as well.

So here is what I propose, we put the franchise tag on him, then try to trade him. If we can't trade him, then we release our franchise tag and he becomes a free agent.  However, we would lose our franchise tag, but we wouldn't need it because we don't have anybody else to tag.

IF we franchise him, he would get 20 mil plus, he's the hottest FA this year, let's try to get something for him.

Cat Scratch Reader Offseason Agenda!

Offseason Decisions (My Decisions in Bold)

1)      Franchise Tags- We can use a franchise or transition tag, and we have an extra transition tag since there is no cap next year. Should we franchise Julius Peppers, Keydrick Vincent, or Tyler Brayton or Mushin Muhammad? The deadline is February 19th.

Player and Position

Transition Tag Salary

Franchise Tag Salary

Julius Peppers

$20+ million

20+ million

Tyler Brayton

7.77 million

8.991 million

Keydrick Vincent

7.774 million

8.451 million

Mushin Muhammad

8.393 million

9.884 million

Reason that peppers and Brayton's salary would be different, is because the rules say either top 5 at position or 120 % of last years salary. But it has to be whichever one is more.

We won't use franchise or transition tag.

2)      Who is the starting quarterback going into camp?

      Jake Delhomme

3)      Do we try to get a 2nd round draft pick for Matt Moore if Jake Delhomme is going to be the starter?

            Yes

4)      Do we try to trade Jake Delhomme if Matt Moore is going to be the starter

            N/A

5)      Are we going to re-sign Josh Mc"Clown" or A.J. Feeley(both UFA's)

            NO

6)      Do we give Deangelo Williams an extension (free agent next year + making under $million.)

            YES

7)      Is next year going to be Hoover's last.

            Unfortunately, yes

8)      Who are the second and third Wide Receivers? Do we re-sign Muhammad, how long? Do we get WR as first pick in draft, do we get a free agent WR? Do we keep Dwayne Jarrett and/or Kenneth Moore around?

Second Receiver in free agency, Third Receiver Mushin Muhammad, fourth receiver Dwayne Jarrett.

9)      Jeff King makes more money than Dante Rosario and Barnidge combined, but Rosario and Barnidge could be starter if you argued for them. Do we try to get a 2nd round pick for Jeff King? Do we make Rosario starter? Do we draft Hernandez out of Florida as third TE, or do we just re-sign Jeff King.

Try to trade Jeff King for 2nd, draft TE in 4th round or later.

10)   Resign Keydrick Vincent or Let Mackenzy Bernadu or Duke Robinson fill in. Or do we draft a Guard?

Resign Vincent, and if not possible have Robinson start, but if he's not good enough keep Bernadu as starter.

11)   Resign Tyler Brayton, Long-term Peppers / franchise peppers?

Resign Brayton and long term Peppers

12)   Resign Hollis Thomas, Louis Leonard, and Tank Tyler. Who are our four Defensive Tackles?

Resign Thomas and Tyler and Leonard. (Kemo, Lewis, Leonard/Thomas, Tyler,  Leonard/Thomas)

13)   Resign Davis and/or Anderson, or let Connor/Anderson be third linebacker.

Resign Davis, Try to get 3rd round pick for Anderson (RFA)

14)   Resign Marshall, draft CB or let Munnerlyn be 2 or 3 cb?

Resign Marshall, draft 3rd CB or make Martin or Godfrey 3rd CB and have Munnerlyn be dime

15)   Keep all three of our good safeties + teal?

Try to Trade but don't force it

16)   Resign Rhys Lloyd

Yes, will be kicker after Kasay

17)   Get another KR/ PR

            Mark JONES.

Cat Scratch Reader Issues to Address in the Offseason

Now we had the toughest schedule in the league this season, but next year we have one of the easier schedules. But we should still get better. Just because we didn't get better last season, doesn't mean we shouldn't this season.

1st Area of Concern : Pass Offense-

Obviously, we have a huge QB controversy. Did Jake Delhomme really get hurt. Did it take him getting hurt for Fox to make the change.

Despite this, last season and this season we have had our no.3 reciever as Dante Rosario followed by Deangleo Willlaims.

We need another WR. Notable free agents: Brandon Marshall, Braylon Edwards, Terrell Owens, Vincent Jackson, Miles Austin, Antonio Bryant, Steve Breaston, Lance Moore.

2nd Area of Concern: Rush Defense:

This was probably because of the lack of Defensive Tackles, but Damione Lewis only had .5 sack this season. Also to note, many of DT's we used will be free agents. one, Derek Landri has a four-year contract somehow. I think we should keep Hollis Thomas and Louis Leonard.

Starters: Kemoeatu and Lewis

Backups: Leonard and Thomas and Irvin.

Now do we want 2 really fat guys as backups, because usually on third down we come out in 4 DE set.

Also Charles Johnson and Tyler Brayton had most sacks besides Julius Peppers 4 and 5 respectively. We need to have Johnson in more. And Brayton's a free agent, something tells me we won't bring him back.

Bengals Kicker that missed two field goals makes 2.4 million. Also a free agent next year.

John Kasay makes 1.5 milllion.

A couple years back Shayne Graham came in for Kasay when he hurt himself.

GOOD THING WE DIDN'T KEEP HIM AROUND.

Cat Scratch Reader 2010 QB Crisis

Think about it. first off hurney insists that Delhomme is going to stick around.. but he can't be starter. I assume that Cantwell is our no.3 and even could be on practice squad again.

I think Mc"Clown" and Feeley are gone, and we tender moore.

So Best Case Scenario

1. Moore

2. Delhomme

3. Cantwell

Or we get draft pick for moore and sign free agent QB, I just can't imagine Delhomme starting

1. Free Agent QB

2. Delhomme

3. Cantwell

Or we get QB Draft pick

1. Draft Pick QB

2. Delhomme

3. Cantwell

If Delhomme is backup he'll be here for 4-5 more years, unless WE DO something about it.

we must either get rid of him or make him the starter.

Cat Scratch Reader Ranking Panthers Position Coaches

Position Coaches:

1. Dave Magazu(OL)- he's done so good with rookies and linemen changing positions

2. Jim Skipper(RB)- consistent performances throughout the years

3. Brian Baker(DL)- gotten some pressure, kept Peppers happy

4. Geep Chryst(TE)- Look who he's coaching!

5. Mike Gilhamer(DB)- Always backing up, letting them not get the deep ball

6. Richard Smith(LB)- who?.. I've never heard of him.

7. Richard Williamson(WR) - you have to wonder what a 68 year old man can do (although he looks older)..

(Fun Fact: He was head coach of bucs in 1991 he went 3-13 before being fired at the end of the season.)

8. Rip Scherer(QB) - look how he's ruined things

Coordinators:

1) Ron Meeks- first season w/ injuries doing good!

2) Jeff Davidson- average playcalling on a good team makes team worse.

Pinstripe Alley Performance Bonuses

Anyone find out how much everybody got for their stats over the year, and the extra money from winning rounds in playoffs...

Don't speculate, if you don't know.. I know pettite was supposed to get 4 mil, but he had some bonuses

Also.. Sabathia's salary was 14 mil w/ 9 mil signing bonus this year, next year it will be 23 mil. I hope we repeat, and sign matsui, damon, and pettite

I think Burnett will be in the pen, if it's a fairly close game.. Our bullpen hasn't been executing recently.

Here's who I expect to see after Andy Pettite. We need Pettite to get deep in the game
