Getting Primed for Floyd's HoF Induction
As you may remember, Jezru, Tim, Don, and I started the MHR Denver Broncos HoF Committee 1.5 years ago to get Shannon Sharpe and other Broncos in the hall. We were outraged at what had happened, and we called it a travesty...twice. Long story short, Floyd Little made it in the hall, and we'd like to pretend we had something to do with it.
Note: For the actual long story, click here, here, here, and here.
Now that we're only 10 days away from Floyd's induction, I wanted to remind everyone how close it is, and how great he was and is. Sports Illustrated has a recently published article on Floyd that shows how much the induction means to him and shows us which fan is really responsible for Floyd's induction: Tom Mackie.

Raiders fan eats shrooms, fully realizes love for team
Although I feel like it should be from The Onion, this is actually a fanpost on Silver and Black Pride.
I find it strange something like this was rec'd up, not exactly something to be proud of tell or to tell everyone. It seems to speak to a lack of well....something or other. Read for yourself.

Since I just decided to become an Everton fan, I thought I might make a Fanshot asking for answers to my fanpost over on Daily Soccer Fix. Thanks!

The MHR Denver Broncos Hall of Fame Committee: What Are the Odds?
|
Early last year the 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame class was announced, and once again there were no Broncos inducted. There was anger and outrage, it was called a travesty, then it was called a travesty again. It was out of those posts a committee was born. No more weeping and gnashing of teeth, we're taking action. With John (Guru) advising and great help from Tim (Zappa), a committee consisting of Jezru, studbucket, and firstfan was formed with the purpose gathering data and opinions to create an organized campaign to get more Broncos in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. To see the first post in this series, go here. The second post can be found here. The third and most recent post from November, can be found here.
To date, all of the MHR HoF Committee posts have been written using "we", as they reflected the opinions and actions of the entire committee. However, this post will be written primarily from my perspective. There's a good chance that John, Tim, Jess, and Don will agree with much of what I say here, but I don't want to put words in their mouths, so I will let them do the talking.
After the jump, I will try to step back, take off my orange-colored glasses (if possible) and look at what the chances are for both Floyd Little and Shannon Sharpe. I've spent much of the last 9 months corresponding with HoF voters, and I've tried to soak up as much information over the last month about the opinions on and merits of the 17 players up for induction. In addition to my feelings on Floyd & Shannon, I will also give you my thoughts on this class as a whole, and the chances that each of the other individuals have. We've done all we can, so now all we can do is hope, pray, and speculate.
On a related note: The Committee will begin meeting this Saturday at 9AM est, with the announcement to be broadcast on NFL Network at 5:00PM est. Have your browser locked to MileHighReport all day for up to the second coverage. Be sure to follow MHR on Twitter as well - @MileHighReport

The MHR Denver Broncos Hall of Fame Committee: The Fight for Floyd

As you may know, on August 25, 2009, Floyd Little was announced as one of the 2 Seniors Committee candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That was 3 months ago, but we all need a moment to celebrate, right? So take a step back from the computer, pump your fist and scream to the heavens. Floyd deserves it, and even getting this far is an accomplishment, but there's much more that needs to be done for this mission to be complete. A lot has happened since our last update in August, and we have all of the information for you after the jump!

The 11th Hour
The time has come. Tomorrow (the 25th), the Hall of Fame Seniors Committee meets to determine the final 2 Seniors candidates that will be part of the final 17 candidates that the Hall of Fame writers vote on. We desperately want and need Floyd "The Franchise" Little to get a chance at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He means so much to the Broncos franchise today (which wouldn't be here without him) and we want Floyd to get into the Hall of Fame.
If you are new to the efforts of the MHR Denver Broncos Hall of Fame Committee, please go here for an introduction, go here for more about our efforts regarding Floyd, and go here, here, and here to see our previous cries for help.
So we have one more day to hit these writers via email and Twitter, and we want them to know how important Floyd Little is to us as Broncos fans! So use the emails found below, read the links we provided, and get inspiration from our templates, and send out an email to all of the writers!

The MHR Denver Broncos Hall of Fame Committee: A Floyd Little Update

The recent Hall of Fame game, induction ceremony, and a certain article from Zappa have gotten all of us into the Hall of Fame mood again and thinking about the various injustices and grievances we have against the Pro Football Hall of Fame. One of the primary reasons for angst amongst Bronco fans is the exclusion of The Franchise, Floyd Little, from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As you may remember from our first post, Floyd is one of the two candidates we are persuading the voters to get into the Hall of Fame.
So how have we been doing? Will Bronco Nation be appeased? Details and plans around Floyd's candidacy can be found below.

The MHR Denver Broncos Hall of Fame Committee: An Introduction
|

In this first post we will be giving you an update on the plan, purpose, and progress of this committee, and look for feedback and help from you guys! MHR is far and away the best Broncos community on the web, and I think that by leveraging our passion, intelligence, and numbers, we can influence the voters the way Redskins fans were able to influence Art Monk's induction. We have chosen one current candidate and one senior candidate to focus our efforts on this year, and we've been emailing voters to get feedback and opinions on the candidates. Learn about our candidates and findings after the jump!

An acquaintance of Pat Bowlen to Peter King.
A Statistical Look at Coaching Success
Given all of the coaching turnover this offseason (a record 11 new coaches), I wanted to see how coaching hires should be expected to fare with their teams. Are they successful, a failure, or somewhere in between? By looking at trends from the past, I hope to better understand how many coaches from this new batch of 11 we can expect to be successful, particularly Josh McDaniels.
For my data, I looked at every single new coaching hire since 1995. Why 1995? That was Mike Shanahan's and Jeff Fisher's first full season as head coach of the Broncos and the Titans/Oilers. With Mike Shanahan's firing, Fisher is now the longest-tenured coachin the NFL, so starting in 1995 ensures that every team in the league has made at least one hire in my dataset.

Notes From Lombardi: Broncos Breakdown
Mike Lombardi of NFP goes over Denver's offseason moves and what he thinks of them all.
The State of The Broncos
National Football Post's Matt Bowen writes an article on the current state of the Denver Broncos.
A HOF Travesty in Numbers - Expanded
Thanks to Jezru for this post in which he gave me the idea for this and got the ball rolling with the statistics.
14 different NFL teams came into existence between 1960 and 1967. Combined they have 17 Super Bowl titles and 82 Hall-of-Famers. The Denver Broncos are part of that illustrious group, but only make a real contribution to one category with their 2 Super Bowl titles. Why do they barely make a dent in the Hall-of-Fame count with two inductees?

Javascript Bogging It Down?
Hi, first off, I love SB Nation and the absolutely fantastic blogs that can be found here. The site designs are great and easy to navigate as well.
However, I've noticed my experience get slower and slower over the last 2 months or so, and I was wondering if this was due to new Javascript features that are being put in or something?
It can often take 30 seconds for me to completely load a homepage, which is frustrating because I cannot view the 'My Blogs' dropdown until all of the JS has been loaded. Much of the page content will appear, but the 'loading' cycle will continue for a while, which hints to me that this is a javascript/images thing.
I just thought I'd bring it up because I notice that at least 7 scripts are called upon load (looking at source), and it's been a very recent thing (last few months).
I use Firefox 3 on Windows Vista and Ubuntu 8.0.4 and 8.10. Problems experienced on both OSes.
Thanks!
Dennison Staying in Denver
After interviewing with San Francisco for their Offensive Line coach position, Rick Dennison will be retained as Denver's O-Line Coach.
Notes From Lombardi
I hear that after Scott Pioli makes a change at head coach and Herm "Lets Build Something Together" Edwards is let go, he will have a tough time convincing Kirk Frentz to leave Iowa. Frentz seems content to stay where he is right now.
Cyrus Tate Sprained His Ankle Then...
He shrieked.
He shrieked like I never thought a 6'8" monster could. He was lying on the floor 10-15 feet from me underneath our basket, slowly rolling around in pain, keeping his right leg slightly bent and stationary.
10 seconds later Matt Gatens is standing over him trying to heal him with his mind bullets (that's telekinesis Kyle) and the trainors are touching his legs while he whispers about his pain to them.
Then it happened. A trainer reached down, touched his ankle, and while the gym was completely quiet, Cyrus let out a shriek/scream hybrid. It was like a 1-second long falsetto orgasmic noise.
This is the kind of thing I think everyone needs to know.
[Well, we can't not bump this.--OPS]
Most underrated Bowl: Iowa vs. South Carolina. The Hawkeyes have lost their games by a combined 12 points and won their games by a combined 216 points. That’s pretty similar to what Alabama did in one more game (11 points and 247 points, respectively). Iowa gets my award for being the most underrated team in college football: despite ranking 14th in the SRS and knocking off the undefeated Nittany Lions, they are unranked.
Champ Bailey May Play in Week 11
Adam Schefter reports that Champ could be back next week in an effort to play in his hometown of Atlanta.
Brandon Marshall Postgame w/ NFL Network Crew
A nice 5 minute sit-down with Brandon Marshall and the crew. He explains his celebration, the feelings of the team, and why he had a rough night. He showed some maturity, accepted responsibility, and I liked what I saw and heard.

"Can anyone else breathe out here?" That was the question I would always hear (sometimes from my own mouth) when we went out to warm up for the game. The thin air is no joke, and there is a painted sign on the wall right outside the visiting locker room in Denver. "Welcome to Denver and Mile High, Elevation 5,280 Feet." That’s what it really says, and it is the first thing on your mind as you prepare to play 60 minutes of football. Throw in the weather that can change at any moment—snow, rain, ice, wind– and you have a recipe for disaster. The fans are great too: passionate, knowledgeable, and tough. Plus, every time you fly into Denver on the team charter, you are convinced that the winds are going to toss you into one of the mountains. I would rather take a bus out there to play.
I watch every Denver offensive game and came away more impressed with Jay Cutler than ever before. His foot quickness and his movement are very impressive and it makes no sense to bring blitzes from depth against him. His eye control and ability to feel the rush is very, very impressive.

Is Denver's Offense Scoring Too Fast?
Note: Guru may have spoken on this some last night on the podcast, I have yet to download and listen to it.
So far this season Denver's offense is off to a record-setting pace, while its defense looks to be equally bad. Why is this happening, is our offense making life tougher on the defense? I sat down and looked at some numbers to see if I could come up with a conclusion.

Denver defensive linemen Jarvis Moss and Dwayne Robertson need to do something. I just watched them both on tape and it was painful. Moss looks like a blown pick right now.
Brody Croyle is terrible, but Damon Huard, he's terrible too, but he's functionally terrible, know what I mean?
