Is it time time to start going to the games with bags on our heads yet? Or even better, the CHEAPS fan buckets from kfc on our heads. It's down right pitiful.
Life's a garden... dig it. Make it work for ya.
Bulger and Holt on I-70 headed west?
According to NFL network Scott Linehan is looking to trade or release Torry Holt, and Bulger refuses to play for him. I know they are aging. But both would be great additions and would help develop these young guys we have now. If the price wasn't too steep it would atleast be worth a sniff. What do you think? What would it take? How much would it help, if at all. Or do you think it would hurt?
Proof to me that Kelly Croyle has bigger cojones than Brodie.
I myself have a shoulder subplexus? Sorry, can't exactly remember how it's pronounced. Anyway, the shoulder comes out constantly. It hurts... Boo hoo. I have to take my ass to work construction everyday, ten years now. I got it racing motocross. Separation after separation, BUT I always finished the races. So.... Why is puny little Brodie wimping around on the side line? He is a puss. Check out this article from PFT.
ROETHLISBERGER HAD SEPARATED SHOULDER
Posted by Mike Florio on September 14, 2008, 8:23 p.m.The Steelers disclosed this week that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a shoulder injury during the Week One romp over the Texans.
But the Steelers didn’t mention that Roethlisberger separated the shoulder.
Al Michaels of NBC mentioned the severity of the injury during the opening moments of NBC’s coverage of the game.
Roethlisberger, listed as probable in Friday’s injury report, will play on a windy night in Cleveland. Thanks to the remnants of Ike, the breeze could gust up to 60 miles per hour later in the game.
Andrea Kremer of NBC reports that offensive coordinator Bruce Arians hasn’t altered his game plan as a result of Roethlisberger’s shoulder or Ike’s fading rage. In fact, they plan to throw deep when the wind is at their backs.
Why is Brodie out? Seems like if Big Ben can do it for his millions, and I can do it for mere peanuts. His punk ass could go out there and stink it up like he always does. Seems to me, it's just his excuse not to go out and get embarrassed with the rest of the team, Way to go.
Will Someone PLEASE Take Herms Hand of the Playbook!!!
I for one am not a Herm basher, infact I am a Herm enthusiast. However, with new "experienced" play caller Chan Gailey at the helm. I could not help but notice discusting similarities to the Solari offense. How many times do you really have to run up the gut for no gain to try something different? How many times do you have to get stuffed on 1st down trying to run Larry into a wall before you change your approach! This leads me to one conclusion. Unless Herm has no influence on the offense, this is what we will see until he is run out of town. Much like our last sacrificial lamb Mike Solari.
Take action and get Jackson!!!
While Chad Jackson is still unproven, and recently cut from the Pats. I think he would be an excellent addition to our thin wide reciever corps. Just because he was cut from the Pats doesn't nessecarily mean he is a bad receiver. Players come and go from the Pats for many reasons, buried behind talent, Belechick's charm, and many more. The only concern that I would have is whom would be getting the axe. We've already cut Tyron Brackenridge, a player who I was quite fond of. I would sure hate to lose Dantrell Savage. I assume he would be next. Considering they've kept B.J. Sams around for some reason.
Croyle to Smith.... Touchdown Kan sas City!!!
I have been severely behind with my posts as of late. But I couldn't help myself today. I was getting ready to check up on my fantasy teams and when I saw yahoo headlines saying that the Panthers should and may be considering trading star wideout Steve Smith. I thought to myself.... "I know this would never happen, but what if it did?" Could you imagine Bowe to the right, Smith to the left? What do you do about Tony and Larry? I know that it's just wishful thinking. But could you imagine? Even with the lack of experience elsewhere I couldn't see too many teams that are on our schedule that could compete. Save the Pats. What do you think? Would he be worth a draft pick or two? 1st or 2nd rounder?
MORE EVIDENCE THAT JOE FAN IS GETTING THE SQUEEZE?

MORE EVIDENCE THAT JOE FAN IS GETTING THE SQUEEZE?
In response to our rant about the possibility that PSLs will squeeze out of the stadium the blue-collar fans who helped make the game what it is, a fan of the Chiefs has pointed out to us some other evidence of a fundamental change in the manner in which folks are now expected to watch live football.
In a “Chiefs Fan Code of Conduct,” folks attending home games are told that Arrowhead Stadium staff will “proactively intervene” to prevent behaviors such as . . . drum roll, please . . . standing.
We’ve been to enough football games to know that it can be a pain in the arse when the guys in front of you decide to stand up, if for example the road team is facing third down and seven in the fourth quarter of a tie game. But that’s football. The easy answer? Stand up, too. And if you don’t like all of the sitting and standing, then don’t go to a football game (or to a Catholic church — rim shot).
The Chiefs also have set up a text-messaging system that allows fans who might be offended by behaviors like standing to report the situation to the powers-that-be. It provides the non-confrontational types who might be offended by sitting a way to tattle while still maintaining plausible deniability.
We don’t mean to pick on the Chiefs here. For all we know, every other team prohibits standing as well. (We welcome PFT Planet to post links in the comments to any other no-standing policies from other venues.)
And maybe, down the road, it’s just another way to raise money. Fans will be able to stand.
If they’ve purchased a Personal Standing License.
League full ready to draft!
Thanks for everyone joining! We have finally gone to the live draft, and have 20 teams. Good luck to everyone that has joined. Also still havent figured out what to play for. Money, BBQ, shaved heads, I don't care. Come up with some ideas and we can vote or something.
CHRIS: Are you going to have an ARROWHEADPRIDE league again this year? If so, I would be glad to join to up. I know several that would also like to join as well.
Early start to fantasy football!!!
It's already that time guys! I have set up a league in yahoo. It is a free league for anyone to join. Infact I strongly encourage everyone to join. I don't have a clue as to what to play for, so if you have any good ideas I am open to suggestions. Here is the url, let me know if you have any trouble.
Thanks

Are the Bump and Run-away defense and Run, Run, Run, Punt offense over?
|
\
The days of the Bump and Run-away defense are hopefully a thing of the past. We may have lost Jared Allen but when you think about if... We won 4 games with him, so apparently he wasn't nearly as important to the team as everyone really thought. Especially with Dorsey now manning the middle. If the "Tank" gets fired up also, I might even be able to get a sack or two. But here is where it really gets exciting... The cover 2 defense doesn't require you to have a "shut down" corner. All you need is decent corners because you are (hopefully) able to drop 7 players into coverage. With safties roaming over the top to help everyone, the corners job is considerably easier. Well guess what? We now have the makings of our very own "shut down" corner(s) in rookies Brandon Flowers and Carr. It has been said that the Chiefs have already been able to implement a lot more man coverage into the defense. With Surtain possibly being the 3rd/nickel back that says a lot for these kids The Bump and Run-away defense seems to have left the building along with it's creator... Ty Law As for the run, run, run no let's pass... nah let's run, and punt offense... The jury is still out on that. We seem to have a franchise LT in Brandon Albert, and that's never a bad thing to have when you are rebuilding an offense. We still have Brian Waters manning the LG position too so the left side (blind side) seems to be safe. Center worries me along with the RG position. Atleast the RT will likely be manned by Damien McIntosh. A solid veteran who when healthy did a good job at LT so I think he can handle the right side just fine. I think the center and right guard positions will end up with the right guys for the job... So I guess I am going to put my money on atleast an average or maybe a little above average O-line. One more year and I will say an excellent line. This leads me to the skill positions. QB is a toss up, even with the Willie's (Roaf and Shields) in their prime I would still be scared to trot Brodie on to the field as my starter. Hopefully I will be firing up my grill and smoking some crow this fall. I would love nothing more than to eat a big plate full as Brodie leads the Chiefs to the play offs and beyond. L.J. on the other hand, I have been highly critical of L.J. since the hold out. I think he will return to form this year. With the line shaping up and having good back ups in Kolby Smith and Jamaal Charles this year he stands an excellent chance of being great once again. Charles will be the perfect compliment to L.J's style too.Not to mention the fact that they will feature a true full back again with Mike Cox. The receiver position has always been a question in the past. But I don't think that will be a problem any more. You have the pillar of the recieving corps in Tony Gonzalez. Yeah he is nearing the end, but you still have to respect him anytime he touches the field. The emergence of our finally true number 1 reciever in D-Bowe will only help everyone. But the rookie Will Franklin is what really has me hopping right now. I have a bias opinion because as a MIZZOU fan I have grown to love watching him play over the years. But I am telling you, if he can slow the game down and play it on his terms he will be as good of a number 2 as you can find. Not only is he big, he is a burner. Oh, and slowing the game down may not be too much trouble for him. His former teammate is the equivalent to colleges' Peyton Manning. So he is used to complex offenses. With Jeff Webb and Devard Darling in the mix also there shouldn't be a shortage of targets for Brodie... as long as he remembers what color jersey they wear though... Everything seems to be shaping up nicely on the offensive side of the ball. And since Herm and the Chiefs finally divorced from Mike Solari the offensivelly offensive play calling should also be a thing of the past. Chan Gailey was probably the best offensive aquisition this year... Aside from Albert of course. I will definitly say that this offense will be far better than the last two. The greatest show on turf won't open up in KC but we will definily be able to score the football again, So I will promise the run, run, run no let's pass... nah run, and punt offense will be no more. Be ready... This may not be a super bowl year for the Chiefs. But I promise you, You will be impressed, you will see improvement, you may see the play offs, but most importantly... Your hope... WILL BE RESTORED! |
Herm gave us the sugar, lets make some red koolaid!
After the dissapointing...Let's face it, sickening season last year Herm and King Carl have given us new hope. Well atleast they gave me new hope. The draft was rediculous, as far back as I can remember (granted I am only 26) I have never seen a draft that looks this good.
"On paper" this was the best draft in all of the nfl. Now they may have not filled all of the holes, but you can't argue that this team didn't immediatly improve overnight. Herm gave us a double dose of sugar with 12 outstanding picks. Lets start making the koolaid now and get behind these kids. We may not have a superbowl team yet.... Then again look at the Giants. You just never know.
We have a reasonable schedule, by far not the best, but it's not the worst. We will be getting LJ back with a vengeance, and he has 2 good backups so we don't have to worry about 416 carries again. D-Bowe should continue to be outstanding, and we gave him some help with Will Franklin. Will could benefit greatly from the heavy coverage of Gonzalez and D-Bowe, also a healthy and pissed LJ will relieve the pressure on the rookie from MIZ....ZOU!!! So I fully expect him to exceed his 4th round expectations.
Croyle.... I don't really want to think about that right now, but I guess I should address him as well. As everyone knows, I am as far from a Croyle fan as anyone could be. However, I'll take him on his word that he has been in the gym trying to bulk up, maybe he wont be such a wuss. But I believe he won't hinder the Chiefs too much. Gailey will use him correctly, and our revamped running game, and hopefully far improved O-line will make him "look" like a superstar. If not, there is always Thigpen? Seriously? I guess so, everyone is reporting that he is good enough to compete and possibly even take the job from Croyle. I guess you could look at that a couple ways, either Brody is that bad, or Thigpen is really that good. We'll see.
Defense! Oh yeahhh. I can't say that we are reviving the old steel curtain. But losing Jared Allen (still crying about that) was probably the best addition by subtraction scenario ever. Yeah, the Wild man was a force. But he had no help in the middle. Remember Hali led the team in sacks as a rookie (dont recall #) and to quote King Carl "You may recall a man by the name of Eric Hicks" who wasn't anywhere close to a Jared Allen, but benefited drastically by the inside presence of Chester McGlockton. Hali is much than Hicks, and I would venture to say that Chester couldn't hold up Dorsey's jock strap. Our line will be able to almost eliminate the run forcing the pass. Which is right where Herm wants them. Our secondary will be able to keep up this year since Law won't be there to fall down. We have a 1st round talent CB in Brandon Flowers who is probably the most NFL ready corner in the draft, and healthy but aging Surtain. Not to mention a pretty decent trio of safeties. I say trio because I don't know what is going on with Wesley, and with so many safeties on the roster I an not sure about McGraws future either. But with the ability to predict pass so often, I pity oppositing QB's. Sorry Christian, there is a new Nigerian Nightmare. Oh yeah, I think our linebackers might be pretty good too...
All I know is I have high expectations for this team. Everyone says were not ready yet. I say nonsense. Remember the Saints? Its not impossible. I won't say superbowl, but I am drinking the koolaid. And as Herm says 'Don't let anyone put poison in your koolaid". I will say 9-7 or 10-6. Enough to make it to the playoffs, and drop in the wild card. But the next year? SUPERBOWL or Bust.

More undrafted rookies the Chiefs should be sniffing..
First of all, let me say that I am not 100% sure that these players haven't signed elsewhere already. I cannot find a listing of rookie free agent signings. I can't f igure how some of these guys went undrafted, the talent is surely thee in my opinion. Tell me what you think of them, and also, if possible direct me to a site that may give a listing of who is being signed and where.
QB
Sam Keller, NEBRASKA
WR
Maurice Purify, NEBRASKA
DJ Hall, ALABAMA
Adarius Bowman, OKLAHOMA STATE
Davone Bess, HAWAII
DE
Titus Brown, MISSISSIPPI STATE

I can't help it!
With all of the brilliant decisions coming out of Arrowhead here lately. Doing nothing in free agency, letting half the team "go" in free agency, and now... Let's just get rid of the best player on the team. And for what? Draft picks? Are you kidding me? Give me a player, and atleast a 1 and 2 pick. Because here is a reminder of what happens when we try to fix D-line in the draft. (take it easy, that's my baby)
"See Dad! I told you they drafted Ryan Sims".
Got a better caption... Remember, that's my little girl.
Chiefs mock draft board. Interesting trade?
With all of the talk about the Chiefs err... Cheaps not doing anything in free agency this year. And actually creating even more holes in the process, it really leaves them with no choice but to fix the whole thing in the draft. Or....Stink. Hopefully it is the first scenario. There has been a big deal made about the Chiefs sending the brass to BC to watch Matt Ryan. Though nothing would thrill me more than to get a top flight quarterback like him. Know this... It will not happen. This is an effort to create more value in the 5th pick to someone who wants a specific player ala Run DMC. Which brings me to the point of this updated mock.
I found a scenario on Draftek.com a few days ago that had the Cheaps pulling this very intreaging trade with none other than the Dallas Cowboys. The Chiefs trade pick 5 and exchange another pick (I can't remember which one, they have since changed the scenario) for Dallas 22nd, 28th, and 62nd picks.
So.... Here is where things get interesting. We know how much trouble King Carl has signing 1st rounders and getting them to camp on time..... Let's try two of them. But, this trade allows them to make a big impact on the holes in the O-line. And gives them lots of room to work later in the draft.
Here we go:
Round 1
22 Brandon Albert OG from Virginia
28 Anthony Collins OT from Kansas
Round 1 addresses the severe need for O-linemen.
Round 2
36 Gosder Cherilus OT from Boston College
62 Charles Godfrey CB from Iowa
Now we start adding a little depth at O-line (can't believe I said that, the Chiefs and depth at O-line don't go well in the same sentence. And we also pick up a starter at CB to replace Ty Law.
Round 3
67 Jordy Nelson WR from Kansas State
Enough said. STUD WR! Sleeper?
Round 4
102 Chevis Jackson CB from LSU
Though I think Benny Sapp will eventually be re-signed, we start to look for Pat Surtains replacement here.
Round 5
129 Owen Schmitt FB from West Virginia
133 Tashard Choice RB from Georgia Tech
Fullback is obviously a huge concern for the Chiefs. Here is an answer. Or Oliver Hoyte will work eh Carl. Tashard Choice has sleeper stud written all over him, and he is from G-Tech. Enough said. Gaily will have him.
Round 6
164 Colt Brennan QB from Hawaii
181 Adarius Bowman WR from Oklahoma State
Since we decided that Brodie Crap is the QB of the future, we atleast brought somebody in late that would maybe make him look over his shoulder. Lord knows Huard won't. And Bowman is a steal here. I honestly don't know why he dropped. But can't lose him this late.
Round 7
196 Darnell Terrell CB from Missouri
224 James McClinton DT from Kansas
The adding more depth at CB. Someone to get in here and mess with Brackenridge and Patterson. And adding another body to the DT rotation.
Now before everyone starts saying these players aren't going to go here or there and blow me up. As I said before, I take my info from Draftek and other mock sites and look a couple picks up and several picks down and find the player that I think would work well for our team. I may be bias toward local kids. But they deserve it! The big 12 north was phenominal because of these guys. Give them some credit. Other guys that I have them considering depending on how things pan out are:Chad Henne, Mario Manningham and Ray Rice (round 2), Harry Douglas (round 6), and Kevin O'connell (round 7).
There will also be some excellent undrafted free agents. I strongly, STRONGLY suggest that Adam Speiker OC Missouri and Tyler Luellen OT Missouri be signed. Speiker would challenge right away, and probably be able to win the job as starting center. And Luellen would make another warm body on the OT rotation. And for crying out loud. Give these boys some credit too. I MU had probably the most dominant O-line in the NCAA. Didn't happen by itself.
What do you think? This seems to be a perfect draft for me. Though the trade probably won't happen, it sure is fun to dream. And after all.. It is only a "mock" draft. If this were a real draft something strange might happen.....We would win!
My close to perfect draft
Round 1:Jake Long OT Notre Dame
Round 2:Brian Brohm QB Louisville
Round 3:Jordy Nelson WR K-State
Round 4:Patrick Lee CB Auburn
Round 5:Owen Schmitt FB W. Virginia
Round 5:Martin Rucker TE Missouri
Round 6:Carlton Powell DT VA Tech
Round 6:Darnell Terell Missouri
Round 7:Chase Ortiz DE TCU
Round 7:Davonne Bess WR Hawaii
If you can pick up a few RFA's along the way like a Adam Speiker OC Missouri and/or Tyler Luellen OT Missouri. And a few more RFA DB's there is a very good "youthful" foundation. And of course if you can aquire lets say a Deangelo Hall or PACMAN (yeah i said it). I think every position of need is vastly improved.
The crap I think of....
Well, I have a hard time believing that the Chiefs will take a quarterback this year in the draft. If they do it will be late.... Another Brodie Crap! This leaves me no choice. If the Chiefs think that they should go young, and obviously field crap quarterbacks. Lets dump Huard. He's old. And really... just not that good. Let's sign Joey Harrington and/or David Carr. Their both young.... And Crap! But, atleast at one time they were high picks. And maybe we could get lucky and atleast one of them turn it around and be better than the current crap that we have.
Shane Olivea and Marlon McCree are on the top of my
Wish list. Olivea a RT for the Chargers may not be a pro bowl RT yet. But, I don't think that LT has had the success over the years from shear talent. Someone opened those holes for him. I think he could be a solid RT in KC, and lord knows he's already better than what we have. Plus that frees up another draft pick for a skill player. McCree is a safety from the Chargers and I wouldn't mind seeing him in red either. Average or maybe a hair above. But I just don't entirely trust Page and Pollard.... yet. Each has a unique skill set and both players are good, but I would like to see competition. And once again that may free up another draft pick for a position of need, since there really arent any notable backups at safety other than Greg Wesly whom wants out, and I think the feeling is mutual. I know that both of these guys are from the Chargers, but seriously why not. They are good. Also, since the wide recievers are dropping like flys in free agency too. Lets make a run at Javon Walker. Has potential to be great. I know he is injury prone, but let's face it. We wouldn't be bringing him in here to be #1 anyway. And we are likely to draft a couple receivers. Hopefully Jordy Nelson and Adarious Bowman. Just my thoughts.
T-Rich Back to Retire as a Chief?
Tony Richardson should probably hang it up. Save his health while he has it. But he is scheduled to be a free agent this off season. What would you think if Carl and Herm brought him back for a season or two to play, mentor, and eventually retire as a Chief. I for one think that would be excellent, of course for the right price. Even at the age of well... Dust. He is miles better than what we currently have on the roster. Feel free to comment.
I can't help myself... Have a look PVChiefsfan!
http://www.draftboardinsider.com/nfl/draft/kc.html
In regards to your comment about Carl screwing it up. I enjoy feedback. But your sarcasm is poorly thought out. Carl did draft Derrick Johnson, DT, TG, etc. He even stumbled onto Jared Allen! AS A LONG SNAPPER! That is true. He has hit on a few picks here and there. But that is exactly my point. HERE AND THERE. The link above is to a listing of the Chiefs draft history now back to 1982. Have a look at all of the wonderful draft choices.
Jake Long sees stars!!!
For everyone in favor of Jake Long. Take a "Long" look at this clip. Little Mike Hart the running back and fellow teammate blows him up like nobodys business. Some mocks have the Chiefs taking both Long and Hart. Hart coming around the 3-4th rounds. Hart, though small, is probably one of the best runnng backs in the draft class. I think both guys are sound picks. But check this out, kinda funny.
Alge Crumpler gets the boot! Kicked right to KC?
I am not overly familiar with Alge Crumpler, other than 4 straight pro bowls, and a lot of injuries. But with Jason Dunn and Kris Wilson being absolute turds. Michael Allen unproven, and Tony close to the end. Would Alge Crumpler be a good fit in KC? He likes the ball, Tightends (TG)leads our offense in catches and yards every year. So, the ball is coming to the tightend. He is big, and can block. Can anyone on our team block? Other than Tony G and Brian Waters there is no one. And he is still relativly young. I don't know how expensive he would be, but, I think he would be money well spent. What do you think?
Free agent OL in 08
Everyone is wanting Jake Long or Ryan Clady in round 1. I am ok with that. But, I would like to see Matt Ryan instead. Yeah yeah I know, everyone is down on him. But watching Chris's video showed me that even though he may not be great, he's better than Brodie and Damon on their best days. Offensive linemen should be high on the list, but, since the draft is deep don't be suprised if the chiefs go elsewhere with the #1 pick. Plus, take a gander at the list below of free agent o-linemen. Once again I borrowed it from Greg Davis at footballs future. There is a lot of good talent here, couple that with some wise drafting (even though it may not be the #1 pick) and you could really have something special.
Top 2008 Free Agent OL

Ruben Brown, UFA, Chicago Bears
An aging veteran, Brown has a lot of experience opening holes for backs and allowing time for passers. He's a solid guard who holds down his position quite well. If he decides to stick around, he may have a couple of good seasons left. Teams won't line up to sign him, but there should be a handful that show interest.
Alan Faneca, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
Faneca seems to be the most likely of this group to leave his current team. Rumors suggest that he plans on leaving after the season and contract extension talks have gone nowhere. Faneca is a quality guard who has started in five Pro Bowls and been selected as a first team All-Pro five times as well. He also still has some prime seasons of his career remaining. Faneca will receive the most interest at his position, could be the most coveted offensive linemen after the season, and should also be one of the most coveted players available in all of the NFL.
Flozell Adams, UFA, Dallas Cowboys
A veteran left tackle, Adams should hit the market and receive decent interest. A second-round pick in 1998, Adams has developed into one of the league's better offensive linemen. His size, experience, and performance will lure teams into making a considerable offer for his services. The Cowboys are developing young talent behind him, and depending on how that youth pans out the rest of the season, the team could allow him to leave in favor of saving some money.
Jordan Gross, UFA, Carolina Panthers
With Gross' contract voiding at season's end, the Panthers will need to increase his salary in order to keep him around. The ownership seems to agree that he deserves a pay raise, and the team appears to want to keep him around as their starting right tackle. A former first-round selection who has played well, Gross will be looking for a considerably larger check come next season.
Ryan Lilja, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
A quality guard, Lilja is relatively young and has a Super Bowl ring to call his own. The Colts will do well to sign him to an extension, but there's a chance that Lilja tests the market. In reality, the system that Lilja plays within is a nice fit, and he gets to protect Peyton Manning, so he could easily stay.
Max Starks, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
Starks is young and massive, and another Pittsburgh player that may leave the Steel City. He's 25 and is listed at 6'7" while weighing 337 pounds. His size and age will make him a desired player on many team's list. A top tier tackle will always garner interest and Starks may lead the free agent class at the spot because of the potential he has shown on the field.
Floyd Womack, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
A big, experienced guard, Womack could get a decent offer from any team missing out on a top tier target like Faneca. If Womack isn't the outright starter in Seattle this season, look for him to find work elsewhere with an expanded role guaranteed.
Jake Scott, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Scott is the starting right guard for one of the top offensive line units in the entire NFL, and his ability to help protect Peyton Manning should equate to a nice contract number. Indianapolis has found a way to retain most of their line talent in recent seasons, and it should come as no surprise if Scott is locked into a long-term deal in the near future.
Todd Steussie UFA St. Louis Rams
Steussie has been a solid offensive tackle for several years, but he was placed on injured reserve earlier this season because of a foot injury. He's approaching forty years of age, but he may still have a good season or two in him. He should receive some attention as a free agent simply because of his experience and the position he plays.
Travelle Wharton UFA Carolina Panthers
A late third-round selection in 2004, Wharton has developed into a solid starting left tackle. He has been a key reason for the successes that the Panthers have had, and his absence in 2006 was a key reason for the team's struggles. Wharton's rookie contract will expire at season's end, and his value on the market should be fairly strong. A quality left tackle is hard to find, and team's looking to bolster an offensive line will have to consider Wharton. Carolina will likely make every effort to work out an extension.
Other Free Agent Offensive Linemen
OG P.J. Alexander UFA Atlanta Falcons
OT Nat Dorsey UFA Cleveland Browns
OT Trai Essex RFA Pittsburgh Steelers
OG Chris Kemoeatu RFA Pittsburgh Steelers
OT Cory Lekkerkerker RFA San Diego Chargers
OT Sean Locklear UFA Seattle Seahawks
OG Brian Rimpf RFA Baltimore Ravens
OG Keydrick Vincent UFA Baltimore Ravens
OG Fred Weary UFA Houston Texans
Free agent WR's in 08
With nearly all but one of the Chiefs wide recievers under the microscope this offseason. One would expect that the Chiefs are going to clean house at that position. Here is a list of free agent WR's in 08 by Greg Davis at footballs future. If need of WR isn't addressed in the draft (hopefully it will be) there is a good class of FA's to look at.

Randy Moss, UFA, New England Patriots
With the help of quarterback Tom Brady, Moss has absolutely dominated opposing defenses this season. He looks to be better than the Randy Moss of old, and his 91 receptions for 1,393 yards bears it out. He has also racked up 21 touchdowns, just one shy of Jerry Rice's record with one game left to play. If the Patriots can go all the way and Moss continues to be productive without stirring up controversy--it seems likely--the team will shell out the money to keep him in town, and Moss could easily decide that he likes New England's winning ways. If Moss were to leave New England, he'd be in for a huge pay day.
Bernard Berrian, UFA, Chicago Bears
Berrian was able to put together a decent season in '06 and even with considerable quarterback issues in Chicago, he has been able to tally 920 yards and four touchdowns in '07. At 27 years of age, Berrian is still young and may have several strong seasons left in him. His speed make him a deep threat, and as he has developed his game, he's become a more known weapon in the game. More than a few teams would line up for his services if he doesn't sign an extension with the Bears.
Patrick Crayton, UFA, Dallas Cowboys
With 516 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 2006, Patrick Crayton showed the Cowboys that they may have found Terry Glenn's eventual replacement. Crayton had solid numbers for the role he was given as the third option, but he showed signs of being a potential number two. With Glenn out for 2007 because of injury, Crayton was asked to do even more, and he has come through with 689 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The Cowboys will likely look to lock him up for the future, but if he does hit the market, his speed and hands will certainly receive some attention.
Bryant Johnson, UFA, Arizona Cardinals
Johnson flew under the radar once again this season, but those in the know consider him fairly talented. He's overshadowed by star receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, but Johnson runs great routes, has good hands, and at 6'3" his size makes him an appealing option. He's caught at least 35 passes in each of his four seasons, including 49 receptions in 2004, and has a touchdown scored in each season, with four coming in '06. Although he has had a drop-off in production this season, Johnson will likely find a bigger role in another offense in '08.
Drew Carter, UFA, Carolina Panthers
Carter hasn't racked up yards by any means, but he has tended to be a decent passing weapon in the red zone. Carter has good size and runs fairly good routes. He's out-produced receiver Keary Colbert, and he's played like the number two behind Steve Smith. With Dwayne Jarrett waiting in the wings, Carter could be on the out, or he could be retained as a third option at best. A number two spot is something Carter will probably desire at this point in his career, and a team looking to compliment a speedy number one will consider him. Chances are that he remains no more than third receiver.
Andre' Davis UFA Houston Texans
The Virginia Tech product hasn't had the chance to play a whole lot during his career until an early season injury to Andre Johnson opened the door to more playing time. Davis responded with several solid performances, including a 117-yard effort with a score in week four against Atlanta. He currently has 563 receiving yards and three touchdowns on the season, and although Johnson's return will cut into his opportunities greatly, Davis has still been able to impress as a return man on special teams. His 734 kickoff return yards with a score will encourage the Texans to keep Davis in Houston.
Justin Gage UFA Tennessee Titans
Gage seems to be growing into one of quarterback Vince Young's more reliable targets in recent weeks. He broke through with seven receptions for 90 yards--and a highlight grab in the endzone-- during week ten against a good Jacksonville defensive unit. Gage followed that up with six receptions for 66 yards in a Monday Night game against Denver. Gage has good size and athleticism, and while he has struggled to hold onto the ball at all times, so has the entire team. He's amassed 646 receiving yards and two scores thus far. If he can overcome the bad habits the receiving group has developed, he could be in for a decent contract extension.
Devery Henderson, UFA, New Orleans Saints
Henderson has struggled to build on the strong 2006 season, as have most of the Saints' players. He posted 745 receiving yards and five touchdowns in '06, and has followed it up with 409 yards and three scores with one game left. Henderson is a fast, athletic receiver, but his size will keep him from being a top-level option. Still, Henderson can serve as a strong third receiver and a decent second spot option. He should still receive attention from a handful of teams
L.J. Smith, TE, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Statistically, Smith is having probably having his worst season as a pro, and it's mainly because of injury. He has battled a hernia and knee problems all season, allowing him to total just 236 receiving yards and a single touchdown catch. Smith had posted 50 receptions or more and over 600 yards receiving during each of the past two prior seasons with the Eagles. He scored five touchdowns in `06 and '04 while becoming a top option for quarterback Donovan McNabb. When healthy, Smith seems to find the right place on the field and has shown great strength at his spot. Given his age, size, and apparent instincts, his phone should be ringing plenty if he leaves the Eagles.
Eric Johnson, TE, UFA, New Orleans Saints
Johnson had a decent first game with his new team but failed to follow it up the rest of the season. In recent weeks, he's struggled to do much of anything. He has 353 yards receiving and three scores, but hasn't found the endzone or had more than 20 yards since week ten. In the past, Johnson had shown that he can be one of the league's better players at his position. He may return as the Saints tight end option, but he'll need to step up his game to earn his keep.

Free agent DB's in 08
Before everyone gets all worked up that we have to take a corner in the 1st day of the draft, keep in mind that there is plenty of help to be found elsewhere. Here is a list of free agents by Greg Davis at footballs future. There are a lot of young and talented DB's in the free agent pool.
Top 2008 Free Agent DB
By: Greg Davis
QB | RB | WR | OL | DL | LB | DB | ST
Asante Samuel, UFA, New England Patriots
Samuel is quickly becoming known as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, having posted a league-best ten interceptions last season. He has followed it up with six interceptions this season, and while his interception totals have been impressive, so has his ability to stick to receivers on a regular basis. He's shutdown quality receivers, helping the Patriots to an undefeated record through so far. If Samuel is not signed to an extension, he'll command big dollars on the market.
Mike Doss, UFA, Minnesota Vikings
The former Colts safety has a new home this season, and if he can avoid injury, he could see a long-term deal from Minnesota. Doss The former Colts safety has a new home this season, but he hasn't played well enough to earn a starting role and has been on the field during just eight games with little to show for it. Doss recorded a pair of interceptions in just six games during the '06 season, and had two picks each of the three seasons prior to `07. He has some ability and playoff experience under his belt. He'll likely have to take that ability and experience to a new home for '08.
Domonique Foxworth, RFA, Denver Broncos
Foxworth is used mainly as a nickel defender, and while fast, he doesn't always make the best play on the ball. He's just 24, so experience and playing time should help his development. If another team thinks he can be a top two cornerback, he may seek to leave Denver to take on that bigger role. His RFA status will make it difficult to pull him away from the Broncos, but the cornerback position is one of great significance in the modern NFL, so there's a chance.
Drayton Florence, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Florence held onto his starting spot over Antonio Cromartie when it was thought that Cromartie would win the job early. However, even though the veteran showed his resolve and stepped up his play, Cromartie will probably be the starter next season. Florence is not a shutdown type of player, but he does make plays when he needs to most of the time and he had three interceptions in 2006 with two this season. The Chargers can afford to let him hit the market, and the best bet is that Florence will find a starting position somewhere else come next season.
Randall Gay UFA New England Patriots
Gay is just 25, and while he benefits from playing for a solid Patriots team, he is still a decent player in his own right. He's been able to step up even more this season and post solid numbers, while also showing more consistency. He has registered 37 total tackles to go along with three interceptions. The Patriots and Gay will look to keep him in New England, but a few teams could jump in and try to lure him away, including the New York Jets, who were interested in Gay last offseason.
Marcus Trufant, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Trufant's contract has voided based on playing time and given the team's commitment to other players at his position, it appears that the cornerback will be looking for a starting position elsewhere. His 2004 season was easily his best, when he compiled 96 total tackles, five interceptions, and a sack. He was unable to match that type of production until this season, in which he has 77 total tackles and seven interceptions. He will be one of the top defensive targets on the market.
Ken Hamlin, UFA, Dallas Cowboys
The Arkansas product has 59 total tackles and five interceptions, and has helped Dallas to one of the league's best records. Hamlin is still young at 26, and should have several seasons ahead of him, so there will be teams interested in using him at the safety spot. Dallas will look to sign him to an extension so that they can continue to benefit from his play.

My Kansas City Chiefs Draft Board
From the diaries. --Chris
My Kansas City Chiefs Draft Board
First of all the draft class this year is going to be very talent rich, so, having said that I want you to understand that OT doesn't have to be priority number 1. The offensive line in gerneral doesn't have to be priority number 1. There are going to be some prime free agents this year too, so dont get your panties in a wad about Jake Long and some of these guys.
Round 1 choice(s): Matt Ryan QB, Darren McFadden RB, or Jake Long OT. It all depends on who is availible at this point, but, all 3 are excellent choices at number 4 or 5 and all three could fill important roles. I know, we have L.J. and Kolby. But, what do you do if we have the same thing happen with L.J. and Kolby this year? Trot out Jackie Battle again?
Round 2 choice(s): Limus Sweed WR, Martin Rucker TE, or Adarius Bowman WR. If Either of these guys are availible in round 2 it would be a miracle. But, If our QB is going to have success, then he has to have targets. Do you really want him winging passes to stone hands Parker again? Rucker is an excellent choice because Gonzalez is aging, and Dunn is obsolete. We have to look to the future there, and niether one are going to be there a whole lot longer. I may just be a homer, but I think Rucker is far and away the best TE in the draft, unless his side kick Coffman declares for the draft too.
Round 3 choice(s): Adam Speiker OC, Shannon Tevaga OG, or Nate Jones WR. Adam Speiker is the priority pick here. He is going to be an elite NFL center throughout his career. Has all of the skill needed, plus, he is from Miizzou! You can't go wrong. LOL Unless he projects to go a little lower which is doubtful. Nate Jones could be a good pick up if we missed out on a reciever in round 2 or Speiker is gone.
Round 4 choice(s): Chase Daniel QB, Derrick Lokey DT, or Chevis Jackson CB. Should Chase Daniel decide to enter the 08 draft. Kansas City or any team for that matter would be absolute fools for letting him get away. He is the "college" version of Peyton Manning only shorter. He has the poise and all of the skills needed to succede and play at a high level in the NFL. Even if you drafted say Matt Ryan or Brian Brohm, you have to take Daniel. Corner is a high priority here also, if Daniel is gone, you take Jackson. He will be the best CB on the board.
Round 5 choice(s): Doug Legursky OC, Red Keith LB, or Chase Ortiz LB/DE. I would almost reach for Tyler Luellen OT in this round also since there are 2 picks. Keith and Ortiz would help right away in addind youth and depth at the linebacker position and since Ortiz can also play end, you get depth at end for nickle or emergeny purposes.
Round 6 choice(s): Maurice Purify WR, Tyler Luellen OT, and Patrick Lee CB. If the WR position continued to get neglected to this round and Purify is just lying around he would be a steal at this position. Luellen would be an awesome pick at this position, if nothing else for depth and youth. Not to mention chemistry with Speiker, provided the Chiefs had sense enought to pick him up in earlier rounds. And with Lee, you can't go wrong there unless either of the other 2 guys mentioned are still availible.
Round 7 choice(s): John Greco OT, Trevor Scott DE, or Derrek Fine TE. You might even go Mike Cox FB (from Geogia Tech), or Matt Flynn QB. This late it is really starting to find guys that stand out. Any of these players seem to be decent choices late. I particularly see Mike Cox getting a lot of looks by uhh Chan Gailey?
So there is the long version of my mock draft. Each round offering 3 or more choices given the circumstanes, and who is availible. Unsigned rookie free agents are going to be a big deal this year too for the Chiefs. They are all essentially late late 7th rounders for lack of a better term. Point being, you didn't have to draft them, but you may still be able to milk some talent. Consider Tony Temple and Brandon McAnderson as RFA pick ups at running back if it isn't addressed in the draft.
With free agency coming and Ryan Lilja formerly of the Chiefs, and Allen Faneca coming availible. Don't get too excited if the draft doesn't produce a lot of O-linemen for us. I almost garantee that if Lilja is let go from the Colts, he will be a Chief.
So look at your offense now.....
O-Line
Jake Long Brian Waters Adam Speiker Ryan Lilja Damien McIntosh
Recievers
Limus Sweed Dywane Bowe Jeff Webb Bobby Sippio
Running backs
Larry Johnson Kolby Smith
Full back
Mike Cox
Quarterback
Brodie Croyle Chase Daniel Damon Huard
Tight End
Tony Gonzalez Michael Allen Derek Fine
Of course that is just my dream, but, look at it! Don't you think that could be a top flight offense in the NFL. Young, tough, and nasty. Everything Herm is about. What do you think? Give me your draft board. I love looking at all mock drafts. I am getting so excited about the changes coming I can't get enough.
Top 10 draft pick? Yeah right, don't get your hopes up...
Everyone seems to be looking to the bright side, we get a high draft pick. Let's not forget about what Carl likes to do with those. I garantee, we get a top 10, and it's gone. Carl and Herm will trade that pick before the season is out. Granted Herm seems to know what he is doing when it comes to the draft, but in my estimation, if you get a pick that high, it was for a good reason! Use it!!! We'll see, I hope it is used for good, but good ol' Carl will most likely deal that away. Besides, If you think we are going to actually get a pick that high into camp on time and make them a productive player.........Remember who writes the checks.
The Answer To The Chiefs Running Game.
I have found the answer to fix the Chiefs running game. I know that Carl and the Chiefs put a mortgage on the farm to make Larry Johnson happy this year, and rightfully so. Unfortunatly since then, Johnson has played like he is worth less than his previous salary.
Even with the addition of the ability to go down field with the passing game Johnson has been a bust this year. Why?First of all he held out of camp. That is never good. Secondly, the only motivation he has left is that he stinks right now! "He's Rich B*ch" No seriously, he has all the money he wanted now, and nobody to have to look over his shoulder about.
The anwer to the million dollar question. How do we spark Larry Johnson and the running game? Put his multi-million dollar ass on the bench! Start Bennett, and when Preist is availiable put him in too. Even Kolby Smith could play as well as Johnson right now. Oh and kick Solari in the ass for not adjusting his terrible play calling might help too.
Why do this? This sounds crazy! It's simple really. What does Johnson have to be mad about right now? The fact that he stinks, that's it. He plays better mad, so make his a* mad! Bench him for a game or two. Cincinatti would be a great one to start off with. Who knows, maybe Bennett or Holmes breaks out and plays like the former probowlers that they are. But by doing so, you definitly piss off and embarrass Larry Johnson, and most imortantly you ignite a fire under that multi million dollar a** of his.
Problem solved, he has the motivation to play like the stud back he should be, and you get an opportunity to look at Bennett and possibly Holmes and see what you really have in true game action, not just pre season.
Everyone will likely say that I am an idiot for writing this, and to be honest I probably am. But I guarantee that this plan would work. Oh, and maybe bringing Dick Vermeil back to tell Larry to "Take the diapers off and go to work." might do it too.
Herm embarassed me again!
The Chiefs went out and ran into a brick wall again today, again today, and again today!!! How many times does it take to reallize that if running up the gut with L.J. is NOT working, that you had better try something else? Oh, I don't know, maybe throw the ball to your newest star D-Bowe, maybe in the first half... Come on, If you are going to play to win the game, then play to win the damn game. Don't play not to lose. Come from behind victories are great, but you shouldn't have to be coming from behind in every damn game, and you definitly can't win all of them. After watching the offense move toward passing in the 2 prior games, I guess I figured that Herm would, I don't know... Go with what is working. As for Rayner, as much as I hate to admitt it. I sure wouldn't mind having Tynes back. He has killed 2 games for us already by missing important momentum killing field goals. Although I have been whining and complaining through all of this. I still love the Chiefs and know that there is still plenty of time. I am a true fan...... Without season tickets of course. So I will once again still stand on 11-5. Wait and see.
Hey Chiefs! It's Go Time.
Here we go. Now is the time to make our push for the playoffs. We have the Jags at home and have climbed to 2 and 2 from an 0 and 2 start. Sound familiar? With the same start last year we made it, why could'nt we this year?
The offense is really starting to get into a groove, and the defense is over the top. With momentum on our side and this game at home there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to win this game.
As it stands KC is tied for first with Denver, and it is very possible to get a leg up on the division with a win tommorow. With Travis Henry in hot water with the league right now and a little dinged, and with Javon Walker riding pine with a knee injury their luck doesn't seem to be getting any better. Not to mention the fact that they have a very, very angry Chargers team coming to town.
Oakland hasn't really proved anything either, and LaMont Jordan is injured now too. Dominick Rhodes is coming back, but he isn't a number 1 running back. The QB position is also a concern there as well. Though Culpepper engineered 5 touchdowns at Miami last week, you really have to consider the fact that it was against Miami. Doesn't sound like near the accomplishment when you put it that way.
San Diego? They are down right now, but this is their break out week. After getting their butts handed to them last week they are going to take it out on the Broncos who I mentioned are a little dinged right now. So look for them to turn things around quickly.
Eddie Kennison is going to be returning to the starter position on sunday. This only adds to the excellent duo of Bowe and Gonzalez. So look for our offense to rip things up from here on out. I think Herm finally reallized you aren't going to win very many games with 10 points or less. And the defense is going to continue business as usuall so things are looking good. Though they may have a hard time with the run game of the Jags, hopefully the offense can force them to play from behind and force them to have to pass, I don't see Gerrard working over our defense without the run.
All in all, the season is starting to reveal our destination. With the AFC West in a close battle and the Chiefs being the team on the rise I definitly expect good things. And once again I will stand on 11-5. Wait and see.
What is your pick for the game? Leave your pick, winner and score.
I have Kansas City over Jacksonville 31-17 and San Diego over Denver 28-14.
