CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The NFL has suspended Carolina Panthers defensive back Dante Wesley one game without pay for launching himself into defenseless Tampa Bay punt returner Clifton Smith.

Wesley left his feet and hit Smith in the neck and head with his forearm and shoulder as Smith waited to field a punt Sunday. Smith sustained a concussion and both benches emptied onto the field. Wesley was immediately ejected.

Smith had not signaled for a fair catch and Wesley said he mistimed hitting him.

Wesley is Carolina's gunner on special teams and will sit out next Sunday's game against Buffalo.

And McCown goes on IR.......it would have been nice if we could have pick him up

Any thoughts on what they'll do in finding a replacement for mccown?

I know your probably thinking who is the morris daily herald?  but I came across these news articles and thought I would share.

Now most of it is just your run of the mill panther bashing but i felt the need to point out a few things:

one comment I felt was just pure speculation he says: "DeAngelo Williams probably won't duplicate his out-of-this-world 2008 running the ball" .

The OL's the same, and Otah and Stew have a full season under their belt so I'm not sure why he would say this.

Second comment I noticed was:

"Not only are the Panthers unproven at linebacker, but they're very banged up there heading into the season"

Two words: Jon Beaston

Then i ventured over to his other blog and learned that we didin't even win the NFC South last year like I thought.....

I know their preseason play hasn't given anyone reason to fear them but they are the same team, they're just not firing on all cylinders right now.  And it's not the first time I've heard the falcons credited with the panthers division title.

What's up with the "Mort Goes To Camp" series covering every team in the NFC South except the defending champions?  On the map on the back of the bus looks like they went out of their way to avoid passing through the Carolinas.... :[ 

This morning Mort was even talking about how nobody is talking about the Panthers after he was asked about every other team in the NFC south except the panthers (he actually said" thrown under the bus").  And how he thought we should be in the discussion of top contenders.  Looks like we're flying under the radar as we always are.
