Bring Back CJ Watson?

65
Bring Back CJ Watson? After two subpar years and Derrick Rose's injury, Chicago will be looking for a PG alternative. They probably won't pick up his option or will trade him if they do. Should we try and nab him? CJ fits our tempo and style more.

Revisited- Would you have traded Curry and Klay and Udoh for Chris Paul, even without an extension? I know I would have. I believe we would have got Chandler if we landed CP3. And as much as I like Bogut and direction of the team, CP3 is a level of player, no one on our roster will likely ever reach, and has all the 'intangibles' you simply can't teach.

List of Free Agent Big Men to Pursue

Tyreke Evans stats since being moved to SF

From our friends at Sactown Royalty. Should we consider moving our (knock on wood) #7 pick for Tyreke Evans? I am pretty positive considering he's a season away from being a RFA and the maloof's being broke, they'd take it. 82games.com also defines his production @ SG (which is a typo, because they list thornton at SF in that lineup)- .eFG%- 48.8%, 18.3 pp36, 5.4 rp36, 5.0 ap36, 2.9 Top36

Chris Paul gave Clippers reason to believe in historic comeback over Grizzlies

16
For this night, this moment, this is why Los Angeles Clippers general manager Neil Olshey always knew he had to make that trade for Chris Paul. I still think our inability to get the trade done and actually 'take a risk' will haunt us. Players of this caliber do not become available very often.

Non-Warrior related but easily the biggest story in NBA right now. Personally I agree with them. I don't think he'll play in a playoff game.

NBA Today Podcast: Justin Rao discussing Optical Data Tracking and future of stats

11

Discusses potential of tracking 'passes made to open shooters' as a better way of evaluating a good passer. Someone on a poor team, might not get as many assists because all those passes end up in misses. But they move teams and all of a sudden assists spike and it's credited to 'good chemistry' etc. Thought it was a cool concept to share

Can we hire David Thorpe?

47

Anytime he's on an NBA Today Podcast, it's a must listen. Talks about how poor organizational management and coaching is a reason Brandan Wright didn't get his opportunities till today. "Now Brandan has a coach who knows how to use him, and you can bet whether he's in Dallas next year or elsewhere, the next coach will know how to use him correctly" Also touches on Rose/Westbrook v. Wall, and how so much of it's down to organization and coaching.

Question about MLE- What are the rules for using the Mid-Level Exception in new CBA?

15
Question about MLE- What are the rules for using the Mid-Level Exception in new CBA? Since Rush is our own free-agent, doesn't he NOT count against it? Warriors Salarieis Without Rush we are at 55.4 mil. The cap will be 58 mil. Just signing all our draft picks puts us at atleast 58 mil. By the old CBA, we could re-sign Rush to whatever deal we wanted, and assuming we didn't hit the luxury threshold (approximately 2 mil less than tax at 70 mil), we could also use a full MLE (now 5 years/22 mil. Is that still the case? We don't necessarily NEED to keep the wing depth, but assuming someone doesn't offer an insane amount to Rush, I'd like to keep him, and see if we can turn Dorell or RJ (Dorell more likely) + maybe our Spurs pick into a back up big man we need.

How much can Bogut's play improve offensively?

34
How much can Bogut's play improve offensively? This is a question for the historians and stat-geeks of GSoM. Listening to Bogut's interviews yesterday, it's no secret he did not like Skiles offense, nor did he ever thing he had much help. Skiles runs a slow down tempo, which is opposite of what he ran in college, and worked it through Bogut in the post. Bogut's best year (09/10), the Bucks were the 20th fastest pace team. The rest of his years range between there and 30. Our current GSW's are 10th fastest pace team. While not the Nellie Warriors, still a faster than average pace of play, who will push tempo as much as possible. Bogut was effective in this slower system, but I don't think he was able to consistently show what he's capable of on the offensive end of the court. He said this in interviews, and alluded to fact out of college, he ran a lot more, and loved to get looks trailing the break or in early offense. What I know is, Bogut's never played with this much offensive talent (as far as I can see, the only really good offensive player he played with, was Michael Redd) and the system the Bucks ran offensive didn't maximize Bogut's tools. And beyond that he played with a series of chuckers and ballhogs. Because of all that, his efficiency struggled, and he never got the useage he deserved, in the situations he deserved. Is there a precedent for a player like Bogut, who's switched teams 5-6 years into his career and seen a big spike in production, because of new system/better surrounding players?

I don't feel positive about Brandon Rush coming back. Listened to some of Fitz's radio show today. He kept harping on how they had wing depth next year with klay, RJ and Dorell. And how the team will have depth with 4 draft picks, curry, klay, RJ, Dorell, Lee, Bogut etc. He never ONCE mentioned Rush. Am I reading too much between the lines? It seems awfully suspicious he wouldn't mention Rush, a player who has been a positive for us this year...

Draft Watch: Kidd-Gilchrist v. Barnes

139

Pre-emptive post-tank lottery scouting. I think we can suck enough to get to 7th. Assuming we do, we have a real shot at both these guys. Especially with Spurs pick, and 2 2nd rounders, we have good position to move up a few spots if we deem someone a 'must have'. What does GSoM think of Barnes v. Kidd-Gilchrist? Who would you prefer? Why?

Henry Shullman is right, Larry Kruger is a tool

30

It really bothers me, this type of analysis is allowed on "Warriors flagship". I don't mind anyone being discontent with the trade, I'd just like it if hosts who are paid to cover the Warriors, would do a LITTLE research before opening there mouth. Personally, if I'm Lacob, I'm leaving KNBR. -- I personally want to start a petition for this, because I think Warrior fans deserve better local coverage of there team.

With the acquisition of Jefferson and a pick (fingers crossed). My take on the Warriors short and long term plans... Is next 2 or so years we’ll be a playoff team. I’d say 3-4 highest if everyones healthy and fulfills potential, 6-8 more likely. Curry will likely play better without Monta. Bogut gives us a lot of what we need. If everyone's healthy, it's a safe assumption we make the playoffs. Then, we got Jefferson, Bogut, and Biedrins expiring in 2014 (approximately 34.3 million), giving us a lot of flexibility. In the meantime, we build up a name, we continue stockpiling assets like Klay, and keep our ear to the phones in-case we can make ‘the big move’ down the line in a season or so. We'd have expirings and talent. And if not we can enter free agency in 2014 with a lot of cap space and a better name to sell, some pieces in place.

What do you all think?

CSN Pre-Game- Andrew Bogut (when healthy) is the 3rd best center in NBA. Dwight Howard, Bynum are better, that's it. Chandler, Noah, Horford, Monroe, Gortat? Better!

NBA Today Postcast 3/13 (First 2 minutes on Warriors)

Some kind words from Ryan Russillo- "As another GM told me last night, Golden State's going to do something, and it's most likely going to be DUMB." "Golden state's got a ton of people, a lot of chiefs, not so many indians in that front office. If you look at all the power players, and an owner who's really aggressive. Ultimately the owner's calling all the shots here.... Maybe Jerry West can talk him into some stuff, cause Jerry WEst is cool. That happens with a lot of owners, where if the GM or someone in the front office was a really good player, and the owner still has jock envy, then they'll go "Yeah whatever Jerry, that's awesome! High Five!" Then the guy can tell people in golf tournaments, 'Yeah jerry west and I are totally buddies"

Still don't want him, Ev? I'd personally look to trade either of our guards for him or Iggy (and try to nab vucevic). We're both somewhat redundant (them with Iguodala and turner and us with Curry/Ellis). Considering Lou williams will likely walk, I think we can make a deal.

Steinmetz on Chris Townsend Show

@ 5:50 it gets REALLY interesting... "do you ever feel bad for warriors, for not being able to make it happen?" MS- "Not this ownership group, at this point. And I don't say that maliciously. It's just that, one of the things that's disappointing is over the last 2 years, is that when Joe Lacob came in year, and even Mark Jackson to a lesser extent. They walked in here and suggested, 'You know what, things aren't that bad here. That, they have the pieces here and because we're here now, this franchise is going to be better.' And I don't know if it's naive or arrogant. But it was a little bit of a slap in the face, that they thought they could bring the same team back and be better, and that's what they were counting on. They were 36-46 last year, they brought back the SAME lineup and both Joe Lacob and Mark Jackson said it was a playoff team." (It goes on, but I thought that quote needed to be written out, because Steinmetz is right.)
