Arrowhead Pride RANT - F*** U NFL!!

Dear NFL and Clark Hunt,

It is a snowy Saturday night here in Kansas City.  As you well know, my TEAM is out of any type of contention.  But I am a football fan and will probably watch almost any game on television.  As it turns out, Dallas and Carolina are playing tonight.  And I can't fucking watch it because it's on the NFL network.  Yea - you fuckers can't get your shit together and can't stop being greedy enough to figure this shit out with Time Warner.

You greedy fucks.

I am a believer in your product. I love football - all kinds.  But I buy your product way more than any other kind.

Season Ticket Holder.  Check.
Merchandise for my family of five.  Check.
Watch your network games with the lame over exposure of Petyon Manning.  Check.

What do you want from me?  Can I please watch the game?

Very Truly Yours,

Tailgateandwin.

Arrowhead Pride I'm going to be on TeeeVeeeee

Sign Help Needed.

Ok - we are going to the game on Sunday.  We are not sitting in our regular seats, rather sitting where the cameras can get a hold of our big ugly mugs & the brilliant sign I am going to make.  Problem is - I have slight creativity problems.

The game is being played on FOX for a change.  CBS is just too difficult for anything clever but the X is killing me.

The message I want to get across:  Farve will still be (please, please!) 0-5 against the Chiefs, and we will be the only team he never beat.

Also I want to get a shout-out to Jared Allen for being Jared Allen.

Arrowhead Pride Final Hard Knocks

Well I am not as psyched tonight to watch Hard Knocks.  Why - well a number of reasons buy mainly b/c we have to watch parts of the St. Louis game.

The highlights or lowlights will be the cuts.  Poor Ray Farmer.  That has got to be a tough job.  Too bad Sami Parker didn't darken that doorway.

Well here we are again - only two left.

The sad thing is that we have to relive the NO game and that's no fun.  I mean that game was a DISASTER!

But I am always hopeful.  You just never know what the hell is going to happen.

Of course, Don Banks of Sports Illustrated has ranked KC last in the AFC West.  Thanks buddy.

Arrowhead Pride Chills on a 100 degree day

On this very hot day in Kansas City, I just got the chills.  Not because I am insulated at in an air-conditioned building in downtown Kansas City and not because I just poured myself a huge glass of ice cold water.

No my chills come from reading Joe Posnanski's story this morning about Donnie Edwards.   Donnie was a fan favorite during his earlier tenure here in Kansas City and remains upon his return.

A money quote

"I'll tell you a secret," he says. "When I was with the Chargers, I would hear the national anthem, and it would come to the end -- "and the home of the ..." and I would whisper, `Chiefs.' I couldn't help myself. It's like it's inside me. After a while I stopped, of course.

"Now, I'm back. And I can shout it out loud. `And the home of the Chiefs!' I can't wait."

He talks about what he's after - championships.

He wants a championship now. Of course, that's what they all say they want. Heck, that's what Donnie Edwards said he wanted 10 years ago. But now he's at the age where he feels it.

Arrowhead Pride Eric Hicks Released

From the diaries - Chris

The Kansas City star reports that Erick Hicks has been released the Chiefs.

Hicks was set to make over 4 million this year & he didn't start last year, so this makes perfect sense.  He had a whopping two tackles last year with no sacks.

Eric has done good things for Kansas City and especially for young heart patients which included his daughter Shayla who had open heart surgery as an infant.

I am sure another team will take a flyer on Hicks  but this is not a Donnie Edwards-type release.  I wish Hicks well and thank him for his time in Kansas City, especially 2000 where he had 14.5 sacks!!

Arrowhead Pride Nice work LJ

Larry Johnson was in KC at the end of March for an Easter Egg Hunt at the practice field.

Larry gets a lot of shit from the media & I wish they could do us the courtesy of reporting the good stuff as well.

"This event is very near and dear to my heart," Johnson noted as he was swarmed by children at the event. "Running the football on Sunday and scoring touchdowns is a great thrill but being able to help these kids get a proper Easter is just as gratifying. This is the second year I've been fortunate enough to join the Alpha Kappa Psi's in putting this event on and each time I've come away with such a great sense of pride in what we've been able to do."

Arrowhead Pride Indy Coverage of the Chiefs

Well at least we know the Indy media has zero respect for the Chiefs.  In an article titled, Chiefs on 5-game postseason skid with the subtitle of "Who Are These Guys?" the Indy Star blasts the Chiefs.

A classic quote . . . .

Where's the D?: The Chiefs' defense is the epitome of mediocrity -- No. 16 in total yards, No. 18 in passing and rushing yards, tied for No. 11 in scoring. Veteran cornerback Ty Law anchors the secondary and led the team with four interceptions while rookie defensive end Tamba Hali injected life into the pass rush with a team-high eight sacks.

I'm sorry.  Pot meet kettle.  Mediocre?  I guess that's in comparison to the lamest run defense in the league.  What is mediocre is Gun's defensive play calling at times.  I hope Edwards & Cunningham agree that this "whole new season" also means we must be aggressive with the blitz.  Cunningham supposedly has hundreds of blitz packages - let's see `em!!!

The article also waxes on about Dante Hall with this quote.

Dante's inferno: Dante Hall remains one of the league's most dangerous kick returners. He owns club career records with six kickoff returns for touchdowns and five punt returns for touchdowns. Hall strutted his stuff the last time the Chiefs and Colts met in the playoffs, returning a kickoff 92 yards for a TD.

This makes me think this writer has not seen a Chiefs game since the 2003 season.  I mean I am a Dante fan but there is now way he is as explosive as he was in 2003.  He has definitely lost a step as evidenced by the stats.  Dante is 24th in the league in kickoff returns . . . . http://www.nfl.com/stats/leaders/NFL/KRET/2006/regular and sixteenth in punt returns . . . http://www.nfl.com/stats/leaders/NFL/PNTRET/2006/regular.

What this writer hasn't seen is the P&P connection.  Pollard & Page who are going NUTS on special teams & defense.  These guys are rookies & going to the playoffs - I expect both of them & Hali to be going CRAZY in the game.

Not to mention Larry Johnson who knows that this is the last shot for Will Shields and wants to get him the glory he deserves . .  .

JOHNSON: "I take great satisfaction. What I'm really doing this postseason for is - like I said when I first got here - Trent Green, Willie Roaf, Tony Richardson, Will Shields. It's always been for those main guys that have been here for the longest. We haven't gotten to reach that goal of a Super Bowl. And, even though we lost Willie Roaf and Tony Richardson, I still feel I need to do it for Will and Trent. My goal has always been that."

Go Chiefs!

Arrowhead Pride Lower your expectations

I love my Kansas City Chiefs.  I support Herm Edwards.   My hopes for this weekend go from wildly optimistic to woefully under whelmed.

Yes, the Colts have the worst run defense in the league.  But they also have the second best pass defense in the league.

And I think we must remember the awful losses we suffered on the road this year.  Who can forget the Cleveland loss where we squandered a 14 point lead with eight minutes left to go? We weren't facing Peyton Manning but Derek Size 18 Anderson.  Anderson has a career total of 793 yards - Manning has over 37,000.  Manning has been to the playoffs nine times although his record is a lame 3-6.

Yeah, sure Kansas City is lucky to be in the playoffs, but the Chiefs are Indianapolis' worst nightmare -- and I'll tell you why in two words: Larry Johnson. If the Colts can't stop Ron Dayne from carving them up how are they going to stop Johnson?

Arrowhead Pride Where there's a Will (Shields), there's a . . . . .

Will Shields has played in seven playoff games in his amazing career with the Chiefs.  Can the Chiefs hand him another day of glory?

Can we do it for the Chief that has the longest streak of starting games for the Chiefs and the second longest streak in the NFL?  Remember when Brett Farve got hurt a couple of weeks ago?  I was really hoping he wouldn't start & I have nothing but respect for Farve.  I wanted Will to overtake that record!!!

Arrowhead Pride A Look Back . . . .

Twelve games into the season & we are on the precipice.  We control our destiny - we must win at least three, if not four of the remaining games.  But let's first take a look back and see where the pundits had us at the beginning of the season.

Arrowhead Pride Pundits take on Playoffs . . . .

Michael Smith of ESPN has the Chiefs out of the playoffs with the Bengals & the Jets making it to the dance.

Smith has the Chiefs finishing at 10 & 6.  He has a point with the Jets - they don't face an opponnet with a winning record for their final four games.  Cincinnati on the other hand has to travel to Denver & to Indy as well as play Pittsburgh at home.
