Our 3rd round and starting CB hopeful signed yesterday with Reynolds. Both are 4 year deals I reckon... It was reported by the AJC late yesterday. Owens needs to be in camp from the very begining...he needs all the work that we can send his way so that he can push to start.

This signing leaves Peria Jerry, William Moore, Sidbury, and Adkins as the ones left unsigned.

Generally the Falcons have no problems getting guys in camp on time. Any of the remaining guys unsigned worry you?

Supplemental Draft

Senior DE Jeremy Jarmon has become inelligible for his senior season for using a banned diuretic. He will enter the Supplemental Draft this summer. He will hold a pro day in July to work out for scouts. After getting burned by not grabbing Jarred Gaither a while back I would do ALL due dilligence on these guys.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=5481

Any other guys ya'll know of declaring for the Supplemental Draft? This guy may be worth a late round bid, but if there was some OL help I'd rather see that come in.

Feel free to stone me to death with an all caps post if I'm way off base but with TDs talent detector on board, we can't really miss anyone out there that could help us could we?

Levi Jones anyone?

The Cincinatti Bengals have released LT Levi Jones. We all know how well the Bengals make personel decisions... don't we?

Anywho- This guy hasn't drawn much interest on the market so far. Regarded as an excellent pass blocker with nice run blocking skills and size, I wonder if TD would consider him to come in for competition in camp. He could be had for say 2-3 million I think and seeing as though we are 18+ mill under the cap the addition would make sense. Garrett Reynolds will probably not play this year (hopefully) but after him we don't have much depth after Weiner retired. Levi would like to start and my feelings on competition are this : the more the better. Complacency is the devil.

If i'm Clabo and Dahl (and i'm not) im liking the way camp will shake up... no one gunning for my job.

Thoughts ? Rants? Am I looney?

for a free agent visit says nfl.com

I for one think its a good move. We are pretty durn thin behind our man Harry Douglas.

I actually don't think Finn will have much of a impact this year and is a possible casualty of the youth movement in Atlanta. Not much room for an oft injured possession wr with little speed. Our new udfa from Clemson could prove to be a good addition as its a position that we have room to add players before camp... just thinking out loud.

Anyway, thoughts on Bennett?

Take a gander a this little gem . It's the one titled "State of the Falcons".

It includes hints at throwback uni's, Mike Smith sayin' FUNK THE SCHEDULE, and other things that in general should just make your hair stand on end. After watching, if you don't have the fuzzies about where this franchise is heading then im sorry your heart is frozen in ice (maybe thats just a glacier from Matty Ice's rookie campaign?).

Tony G, 3 possible holes filled on the D side, poor drafts by our NFC South competition, when can we start the dreaded preseason?

Per Comrade Dimitroff this move frees up the Falcons to focus on Defense. Per Rotoworld:

"Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff acknowledged Thursday that the team will focus on defense at the top of the draft following the Tony Gonzalez trade.

Dimitroff admits he's seen many mock drafts sending Brandon Pettigrew to Atlanta at No. 24, but they'll likely pick a corner, defensive tackle, or outside linebacker now. The Falcons are close to Week 1-ready on offense. "

I gotta think Alphonso Smith, Darius Butler are the CB options, with Cushing, Matthews, Sintim, being the OLB options. DT Perry and Hood will hopefully be available but fingers crossed Ron Brace is our 2nd Rd Pick. Either him or Chung.

Thoughts?

Get that guy outta the NFC south as soon as humanly possible I say. He must really be wearing out his welcome in the Panthers organization. At his point in his career he is serious about changing his position? That is a head scratcher to me.

Any thoughts on this? Kinda surprising to me. I didn't really think he was serious about leaving Carolina, but im not hating this move!

Falcons re-sign DE Chauncey Davis

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed with FA Chauncey Davis on a contract for 4yrs.

Davis is expected to earn 8 mill over the first two seasons. He is coming off his best year to date as a Falcon.

Im a fan of this. Chauncey has been groomed here, and just last year started to blossom for us. I envision Davis being able to play the run VERY effectively while adding some pressure off the edge in early downs. I wouldn't think 7-8 sacks is out of reach for Davis with more PT.

Fan of the move?

Falcons to sign TE L.J. Smith

Thats a ton of abbreviations above, but what it means is the Falcons won't be going for a early round TE in the draft. The Falcons are set to sign former Eagle TE L.J. Smith. Terms of the deal aren't known yet, but no doubt the team fills a major void on the offensive side of the ball.

Myself not being a huge fan of his (pointing to mediocre numbers in a pass happy Iggle scheme) I will try and judge him by his work for us, not the Philly nation. Any opinions on this? I am kinda BLEH on it. Good, not great... was he a better option than Pope? Let it be know that we are working toward 2009 though! Make this team better TD.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Please use this as your open discussion thread for all things free agency. Given the clear defensive needs, I think this was a reasonable move and it at least gives the Falcons two tight ends capable of catching a few passes. Let's see where our other guys end up.
