Amazin' Avenue tbach81's bull pen fix

Imagine a world where the Mets' bullpen is terrible. Just god awful. Can you picture it?

These images have been forever burned into the depths of my mind.  So heres how I assess the situation and try to rectify things.

First the onus has got to fall on the GM to understand what he has supplied to the manager to utilize.  Since thats me, heres what I do.

In the bullpen right now Id really get rid of two guys and not think twice about getting rid of them.  First I would simply DFA/Release Scho and Blow as well as Heilman.  Id give them a first class ticket home and do it the day before a day off (dont want a repeat of the Wille incident).  The rest have performed adequately when they are put into positive situations.  We have a loogy in Pedro2 and a roogy in Smith.  We have a good closer in Wagner.  Id give Dirty a little time off to recuperate his dead arm and use Kunz and Stokes more.  Also, Id make Stokes the long relief guy.  Muniz would be optioned down with Niese and Parnell taking the spots of Scho and Heils.

The only other option that I would consider would be trading Fernando Martinez.  I really would not want to deal FMart but if the right guy was avaiable Id pull the trigger.  Most of our minor league talent is in the lower depths of the minors.  Flores, Marte, Havens, Davis, Tejada and Holt are all in lower part of the minors.  So our only real chance to get an impact bullpen arm would be to deal FMart.  So Id actually targer a very select group of guys.  If Huston Street, JJ Putz or George Sherril was able to be had in a trade Id have to seriously look at the idea of dealing FMart.  Acquiring any one of those guys helps bridge the gap to Wagner and gives us some insurance incase of Billy having another flare up with his forearm.  Also it has a positive effect on the rest of the bullpen becuase it lest them all bump up an inning and gives them a little less pressure to deal with.

Feel free to call me crazy but its just how Id handle things

Minor League Ball Draft Thread

Havent seen one so I thought this would be a great time to start one.  Seen Beckham, Alvarez, Hosmer, Matsuz, Posey and now Skipworth be selected.  I have to say that Im a little surprised by the Skipworth pick.... Things arent going so well for my Mets thus far.  I was praying that Hosmer would fall...

Not sure what else to make of the first round so far.  If the first few picks are any indicator of the rest of the first round, then teams are going by their BPA theories...

Minor League Ball My League's MiLB Draft

Hey Guys,

Ive seen others do this so I thought it would be cool to post it here. My league is a 16 team league with a 7x7 scoring system.  Your normal five stats with OPS and Runs counting for the hitters and Holds and Quality Starts for the pitchers.  We had a completely random draft (once we snaked thru a round, the order would change randomly again).  We had a 40 Round MLB draft as well as a 40 round MiLB Draft.

Just thought Id post this to see some of your reactions to good picks and not so good picks:

  4. Alan Horne, RHP
Three-Star Prospects
  1. Dellin Betances, RHP

Just Missing: Frank Cervelli, C; Jeff Marquez, RHP; Ross Ohlendorf, RHP; Brad Suttle, 3B

Im a little surprised to see Brackman that high, given he's either needing or had arm surgery.  His upside is there though.  Definately think Bettences should be higher, as I can see him being a monster at the back end of games.

Im very intrigued by Burgess.  I know he had first round grades for the draft but slipped to the supplemental round b/c of work ethic and what not, but this has got to make him one to watch for next year.  IMO Lambo is a big time sleeper for next year too

Minor League Ball All Gold Glove Team

I really found this to be a good read.   Im also very surprised the Jeter got as much accolade as he did.  Just goes to show that being a good guy and fan favorite can cover up for his defensive prowess .... err lack of.  I, like everyone else, was pretty shocked to see Wes Parker named at first base and not Keith "Im a Coke Head" Hernandez.  Hernandez was prolly the best fielding firstbaseman Ive ever seen.  I also feel that Jim Edmonds in his peak years was probably the best all around defender for outfielders.  Some of the balls he got to and plays that he made were just amazing.  Its hard to argue him not making the list though with Mays, Clemente and Griffey making it over him.  All and all its a good list.

What does everyone else feel about this list?

Minor League Ball Helton to Boston???

I came across this over at foxsports.com and thought nothing of it when they first had a blurb on the topic about a month or so ago.  Now, apparently the talks are for real.  If this deal does go down and the BoSox only give up Ellsbury and Hansen and another mid level spect for Helton (while receiving money on his albatross of a contract), that this deal would be in favor of the BoSox.  Ken Rosenthal reported on it and heres the link

What do you guys think?

Minor League Ball Royals and Cubs Fans

If anyone is interested we have a newly founded league and we had a couple of bad eggs leave our league.  The teams they left are in good situations, just the managers were rotten seeds and need to fill those teams ASAP.  If ur interested we have a very active league and want to get free agency startred pronto.  Heres a link to our league's home page:

Minor League Ball Zito to the Giants

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2710389

I do not know what to say.  Im totally shocked by this.  I am a Mets fan and was awaiting the signing of Barry.  I thought for sure that Zito would have waited till the last minute to sign with a team better suited to win.  Now im left trying to think of what the Mets will do for pitching this year.

What does everyone else think? I

Minor League Ball Giants Fans

We need a Fan of the Giants, or anyone who would like to manage the Giants for that fact, to be their manager.  They are the only team we need to fill our league and want to get started as soon as possible.  To check out the league check out the site:

Minor League Ball Bostons Top Ten Prospects - BA

Since no one has put these up so far, I thought I'd put them up:

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, of
  2. Clay Buchholz, rhp
  3. Michael Bowden, rhp
  4. Daniel Bard, rhp
  5. Lars Anderson, 1b
  6. Dustin Pedroia, ss
  7. Bryce Cox, rhp
  8. Craig Hansen, rhp
  9. Kris Johnson, lhp
  10. Jason Place, of
Personally Im kind of shocked to see Hanson that low.  With him being that low it's a testament to Theo and the Gang for working the draft as well as they have.
