Cowboy fanatic since '66 growing up in NYC. Have lived and rooted for Boys all over the world - including listening to games over the phone from Hong Kong. Greatest highlight - attending SBXXVII at the Rose Bowl in '93.

This year - Return to Glory !

Lockout and the Draft

Anybody know what happens to the April draft with a lockout in March? Even this uncapped year had a framework within the CBA. How would you even sign rookies? FanShot police - I know, so please...

M Lombardi says DAL improves with trade of Free for Donald Penn

12

This one caught me a little off-guard. He's connecting a few assumptions to make this plausable: - DAL, 'a SB Caliber team w slight concerns at LT' - TB isn't interested in signing Penn Honestly, think the latter is more correct than the former. Just don't see DAL giving up a #1 pick for the 2nd time in 3 years...

Top 25 College Prospects

In the Never Too Early to Look at Top OL Prospects We'll Never Draft Department...a couple of thoughts. WP - please, please, please DON'T draft a DE/DL#1. Seeing all this highly rated talent at this position makes me very nervous. Seriously will try to follow these highly-rated OL in the hopes we might actually draft one someday. Seems to be a sizable corps of C-G prospects...

Holdout Restrictions

+

Looks like there will be no holdouts due to this special rule that tacks on another year to a players contract if they don't report by Aug 10. This article references Reggie Wayne, but you can see it applying for the Cowboys with Crayton;'s return. Also could be a factor in lack of interest for S-AJO of STL. Why would the Players Union ever agree to this?

3 of them have Cowboy-ish ties: #10 - Urban Meyer to coach in NFL #7 - Romo is an average QB #5 Cowboys should Fire Phillips. Tim Colishaw succumbs, just as I did to the Wade must Go cries after the KC game

Are Economics Driving Coaching Decisions?

1

More specifically the economics of paying off a contract by terminating a coach early then paying a coach to 'watch film' during a labor disruption in 2011? The final piece of yesterday's P King MMQB talks about Lovie Smith and an $11MM payout if CHI decides to part ways, which may be less likely given their showing MON nite. Combine that with the news CAR has offered its coaching staff and GM 1 year extensions. In normal circumstances, there's no such thing as a 1 year coaching deal, but these are uncertain times. As always, I began to wonder how this applied to Dallas. JJ has a lot of his personal fortune tied up in the team and especially the new stadium. With the prospect of neither producing football related revenue for the 2011 season, is his position with WP, being driven by a potential work stoppage and minimizing avoidable expense? I believe he genuinely likes Wade and I genuinely like my dog. But given an either/or choice between her and my money - it's not really close.

'09 Giants = '08 Cowboys

Honestly, didn't see the NYG collapse happening. But all you have to do is take the Way Back Machine all the way to last season. The parallels to the Cowboys underachieving ways of last year are...

Tony Dungy anyone?

4

Amid all the speculation for potential HC's ranging from Holmgren, Chuckie, Cowher, Shannahan et al, it appears Tony Dungy's phone has been ringing. Who could it have been? More importantly - why not Dallas? He has the pedigree, respect and 'quiet' demeanor we seemingly favor these days. Oh yeah, and competence.

Are we who we think we are?

Tampa Gametime weather

1

Overcast, which is good because DAL will probably have to wear Blue unis. High of 90, 50% chance of thunderstorms, which is not so good, but an equal handicap for both teams. Wind forecast to be negligible. Not sure how well this field holds up to water, but if it gets sloppy, it may be more of a mudder(MBIII), than racehorse(Felix) track.

NFC East or West?

Something stuck me in the 5 Questions post about how a team as clearly flawed as SF can be forecast at 8-8 while most pundits have a talented DAL team at 9-7. The answer, of course, is the strength...

Romo Manifesto

2

Article in D Magazine with a perspective on Romo viz-a-viz comparative history and expectations. Found the link in a DMN comment for a pretty good David Moore item that argues, refreshingly, that Romo's greater success will come from experience - not who he isn't dating or his 'off-field decision-making.' If this has been referenced earlier, sorry for the miss, but I thought it was worth posting

RealGM Football Cowboy Preview

+

Just learned about this from a friend and fellow Cowboy fanatic. . Although I don't agree with all the conclusions, it is a welcome in-depth look from what appears to be a knowledgeable source. I'd be very interested in some of the BTB regulars take on their observations. One clear conclusion, The Boys are decidedly perceived as a 'middle of the pack' team by most prognosticators. While their talent is noted, their weaknesses are equally so. I get the sense a lot of these same authors got burned by an underachieving team last year(didn't we all !)and are (hopefully)overcompensating with this years predictions. I actually like the idea of a team that hasn't had playoff success lie DAL, earning its respect, rather than having it granted to them the way so many did last year(including me). I hope all of this gives the '09 Cowboys some edge, and a sense of common purpose that was not at all evident last season

High-Life, High Prices in the Suites

While I'm not a big fan of this guy's politics at Country of Cretins - he does have a point here. I also agree some professional sports team(s), in a major sport (baseball, hockey, basketball) will fail before this economy recovers. Back to the point, even at my highest earnings, I could not justify $90 for a pizza - although I did spend $80 on a margarita once.
