Let AT&T hear about LHN this weekend at the RRR
I believe since about 2006 the Texas/OU game has officially been know as the AT&T Red River Rivalry. They are the main sponsor of the game. I believe there will be AT&T booths and tons of places with the AT&T sponsorship prevalant this weekend at the Cotton Bowl. All Longhorns should let any AT&T representatives present know in no uncertain terms that they want AT&T U-verse to carry LHN as quickly as possible. They should also let them know they are willing to contact those in power to complain about AT&T's sponsorship of the game if they continue to be unwilling to carry the network.
I thought maybe those cans of orange halloween hairspray would do a good job of writing "LHN" across those nice blue and white AT&T logos that are sure to be all over the fairgrounds, but I rethought since noone should risk getting tossed for vandalism.
Aggie President (no, not the candidate)
ATM President: "Now that the other side has said no, I've been given the power to negotiate a deal, but we might stay in the Big 12." Or something like that.
08-09 Basketball on Home Page
I was just wondering why the 08-09 basketball schedule, rankings, and conference standings are still in the side bars on the home page at burntorangenation? I was wondering this during the baseball run as well, but now that football season starts in 3 weeks it may be time to update. At least the featured poll was recently updated from the how deep into March Madness can this team go which was up there forever.
Big Flop Bob and the Sweatervest
Oklahoma and Ohio State: Proudly losing 5 out of the last 6 BCS Championship Games for your enjoyment.
Hey voters, if you haven't learned your lesson by now, why don't you let them play each other next year, that way one of them would have to win.
Or better yet, why don't you just not vote for either of them for a few years. I don't care how their regular seasons are looking, just remember the disappointment and give someone else, anyone else, a shot at losing the next few years.
Perhaps Mack should start sporting a sweater vest and a visor cap at the same time, the voters apparently like a spiffy dresser.
How to break the BCS this year.
I will preface this by saying I know this will not happen, but this year's finish creates the perfect way to break the BCS system if certain schools had the will and the guts to do it (or even actually wanted it changed).
This year we have four traditional powerhouse teams with huge fan bases in four traditional powerhouse BCS conferences with only 1 loss and a decent argument (some better than others) as to why they should be there, left out of the championship game. SEC-Alabama, Big 12-Texas, Big 10-Penn State, Pac 10-USC. This many teams jobbed from these different conferences will not happen again in the near future.
If these four schools really wanted the system changed they could refuse to play in the BCS bowls this year unless they promise to change the system to some type of playoff system this next offseason. If the promise was made, then they'd play. If not, only the Orange Bowl b/w Cincinnati and Virginia and the "championship game" would be intact. This wouldn't seem like whining because it would not change this year, it would be changing things for the next time around.
Also good about this year, there aren't desirable replacements just below those four schools that would bring in near the ratings.
The large followings of these four schools would make this a hugely popular move that would help blunt any possible legal, contractual problems etc. The fact that there are four of them would help spread the blame/credit and would make the effect of pulling out more widespread. In reality, they are all four playing for nothing but a shared paycheck these four don't necessarily need anyway, so no huge loss to these four schools.
Coaches Poll Shenanigans
UT got no #1 votes in the coaches poll (so Mack didn't put us #1).
OU got 2 #1 votes in the coaches poll, over undefeated Alabama and Florida who has an actual defense.
So which 2 of Stoops' evil minions below do you think did his bidding?:
Mike Leach, Texas Tech head coach
Stoops' first offensive coordinator now has Texas Tech in the top 15 and competing for a league title
•Mark Mangino, Kansas head coach
Replaced Leach, now the Big 12's returning coach of the year after leading Jayhawks to Orange Bowl
•Mike Stoops, Arizona head coach
Took over at Arizona in 2004 after coordinating dominant defenses in Norman
•Chuck Long, San Diego State head coach
Largely responsible for Jason White's Heisman Trophy winning career
•Kevin Sumlin, Houston head coach
Becomes first black head coach in major Texas college football history
•Bo Pelini, Nebraska head coach
Boyhood pal of Stoops charged with resurrecting Husker program
Texas by 6 points in Harris Poll
Texas edged out OU in the Harris poll by 6 points. That's a gain in both human polls, but is it enough?
The Case for Rooting for Okie State
I think a case can now be made for me to root for Okie State next week, and the upside is I don't have to root for ou again (I just threw up a little in my mouth).
My greatest non-Longhorn rooting will of course be for Baylor, come on Mr. Griffin channel the real #10.
I think, though, that if that doesn't work out we would be better off if Okie State won next week. Tech was destroyed enough tonight nationally in prime time that I don't think they will be able to catch us in the BCS even if they win the Big 12 by backing into the championship game (plus they may lose to Mizzou). They just got their hats handed to them, and their asses were in them, in front of EVERYONE. Noone is going to want to see them play Florida in Florida after tonight.
The second loss knocks ou out and Tech stays behind us even if they beat Mizzou. We back in to the championship by beating the crap out of the ags in front of everyone and then resting, ala a Big 10 or Pac 10 team.
