Double-T Nation Why We Might Have a Shot Against UT in September

We all automatically thought "Oh, shit" when Texas moved their game against Tech up to the third week of the season. The reaon we schedule these low-risk non-conference games is because it takes at least 4 games for our offense to get in sync, especially with a new starting quarterback in the driver's seat. But I'm not sure if anyone has realized this, but UT just got rid of a key advantage over our team.

For all the excitement they generate, Mike Leach's Red Raider football teams have never found consistent success on grass: they're 4-11 since 2004 against Big XII or AP Top 25 opponents. I'm not a big stat guy, but those of us who have watched Tech play over the last decade or so know that when grass is involved, our speed and traction take a hit, along with our offensive timing. (I'd hate to see us play in South Bend where they seem to only mow twice a year) This might be one of the reasons why we needed those incredible comebacks against Minnesota and Virginia, why we come out flat in Norman, and why A&M looks like they have a chance at Kyle Field.

You can see pictures of the Longhorns' new synthetic surface here.
