So i've been reading different articles around the sports o sphere and i'm pretty much blown away by the utter crap i'm seeing. According to CNNSI's Andy Staples, "the disputed call is all anyone will want to talk about this week."

am i the only one who thinks the call could have gone either way, and that the replay footage was insufficient enough to cause a reversal in either direction, and therfore the original ruling on the field should hold. Am I just being blinded by homerism, or did the re-play refs actually get the call right?

And of course, none of this so called conspiracy theory talk mentions how Bama was absolutely ROBBED of a big important 3rd down catch late in the 4th quarter vs LSU 2 years ago (ruled a catch, replay confirmed it, yet they overturned it), or the blown TD by Earl Alexander last year that was ruled a fumble into the EZ and given to LSU, and of course the biggest bullshit phantom holding call ever that cost JPW his 40 yard rushing TD that would have iced the game @ LSU last year. And then there was yesterdays game, anyone else think LSU got away with PI on Julio in the 1st quarter when he was running free for a TD pass but got "incidentaly contacted"/tripped at the feet by a complete beaten defender?

This shit pisses me off, if anyone got fucked by the refs over the last three years it has been us, yet we're still 2-1 in the series and never bitched and moaned like LSU fans and now it appears a shit load of national writers.

so i done did it. i entered myself in a hot wing eating contest . if i win the prelim round i'm in tonight, then i go to the finals which is the day of the North Texas game. (thankfully we now know the kickoff time, and the contest is like 5 hours after kickoff, so i'm clear) i have been chewing 4 pieces of gum at a time while at work for the last week. (stopped 2 days ago, jaw was sore, isn't any longer. i may have actually built muscle, awesome idn't it)

and now that the big day is here i'm not sure if there's anything else i can do to prep. (i get drunk and binge eat as it is, so that was a plus) i tried to eat the Big Texan about 4 years ago, got all the sides down and like 54 ounces of the meat, but i crashed at the 45 minute mark and couldn't really keep eating at that point.

this challenge is a little different, they weigh the wings before they bring em out, and then weigh whats left over, and we have 11 total minutes to eat. no puking. winner has the most meat eaten by weight, so dont have to fret over "is this wing all the way eaten?" which can cost a lot of time i'm sure... anyway i haven't eaten since last night around 5. and am about to crack a beer and probably a left handed smoke or two as well (i figure this should help create a monster appetite, no rules about mary jane being a banned "performance enhancer", so i'm doin it). i'd love it if any of ya'll can give me advice on how to tackle this challenge or just support in general. (FWIW, i'm wearin my grey shirt w/ ALABAMA in block letters across it. i can switch it up to the # 12 football jersey if need be. it brought a lot of luck and wins last year)

Press-Register article about recruiting in the SEC turns up suprising numbers. as it turns out, barn has been leading the SEC or near the top in recruiting spending for most every major sport. guess those 2 and 3 star "character guys" dont come cheap afterall.

lawnmower maintenance question

so i put too much oil in my "Craftsman 6.75 HP Eager-1 OHV" lawnmower last week. she was running fine for the front yard, then started actin up in the backyard and eventually stopped runnin. She'd start for a second or two, then die. So i asked around and realized i put too much oil in (and ran it w/ too much oil inside, for at least 20 minutes, which brings us to problem # 2)

now that i have fixed the oil issue (could not for the life of me find a "plug" or drain, so got a siphon pump for 6 dollars at Checker) my lawnmower still does the same thing, starts up, burns rich and blue smoke for one second, then goes normal for one second, then dies. (I did this routine for about 20 minutes, approximately 30 starts, before giving up)

i was reading a little about this on some message boards google turned up for me. it seems like i might now have oil inside my carborator. does this sound right/plausible to ya'll? any ideas or suggestions on what to do? Also it's a Craftsman lawnmower, so can i just take it to Sears?

anyway my wife is going to kill me if the backyard doesn't get cut before my weekend is over (thursday) and my neighbor is out of town, and i promissed him i'd cut his lawn too. maybe i'll just rent a mower tomorrow and deal with this crap when my bro gets back to town (i have like 6 tools, total. chanellock heavy duty pliers and a hatchet being the 2 i use most often)

so anyway, i figured what better resource to turn to int he meantime than all you salt of the earth family men and women here on RBR. please help this city boy, who knows nothing to very little about mechanical stuff, out.

also, auburn sucks.

xbobx 360 or PS3

sorry to post such a lame and self centered topic, but it's an off week so cut me some slack aight?! please....

my wife told me she was going to buy me a 360, but was at the store and the sales guy started to explain about all the add ons it'll need if she bought the $199 "arcade" 360. she got despondent and just told me " i was going to buy this for you, but i'm afraid what i'll buy wont work or be the right version. sorry to ruin the suprise"

so anyway i have been researching more, seems to me the 360 "arcade" sucks ass, and costs an additional 160 bucks if you want to add a modem and harddrive. plus the xbox live service costs money, playstation network is supposedly free for sports games (90 % of what it's going to be used for is NCAA football, the other 10 % GTA and maybe a soccer game....if it has a Blue Ray player, thats a whole nother thing i can use it for)

so what do ya'll know-feel about the xbox360 vs PS3 deal? i'm leaning towards the PS3 simply because 400 bucks gets you a hard drive, wireless modem, free online multplayer gameplay, and a Bue Ray player. and it's roughly the same cost to do w/ a 360, but the online gameplay has a subscription fee, and no blue ray player. also i haven't read as many horror stories about dieing PS3's or them causing damage to discs like w/ 360.....(and i'm currently using a 6 year old PS2 that runs like a champ)

my #1 priority though, is gameplay for EA Sports NCAA Football. (thats why a wii is out of the question) so please guys, let me know if you've tried the game on one or both of the systems, and any important things to note about which platform is better.

i'm pretty sure that utah's coach wittingham used to be one of urban meyers coordinators and from what i know of them, they run a similar looking offense (with three key distinctions; tebow, athletes, meyer). so to kind of piggyback onto the bonus of extra practices because of the bowl game, we get added time working on defending the spread-option-gun or whatever it is.

i think the next few seasons could turn out to be like the early 90's where (cept we're going to win most of the SECCG's this time round) the west and east are pretty much dominated by us and florida. so any added time spent prepping to play assignment defense is time well spent.

maybe saban can get paul johnson to agree to a spring scrimmage (and bury the hatchet between the two schools, thus allowing us to resume our tradition of pounding the yellowjackets every fall)
