Lone Star Ball OT: Do Me A Favor

If you can, give your Dad a call and tell him how much he means to you. Next time you see him, do the same and give him a big hug.

I don't mean for this to be a pity post but my Dad passed away a week ago this morning and I'm burying him on Monday.

I had a really cool day today getting to see the ins and outs of the business I'm in and I caught myself thinking about how I couldn't wait to get home and tell my Dad about the day I had.

It would have been one of those great conversations where I probably would have found out that my Dad knew things and had experiences in what I did today that I never knew before.

I knew when I got to say my goodbyes that the hardest part would be days like today or days where I was having trouble with my car, the house, the yard, etc. when I wouldn't be able to call him and get his advice.

So, as a favor to me, hug your Dad, give him a call and let him know how much he's meant to you. I promise you won't regret it.

Lone Star Ball Good analysis of the Rangers from LL

Getting to Know Your Rival From Lookout Landing

Lookout Landing looks at your (hopefully) First Place Mother Effing Texas Rangers. It's a good read and is pretty on point considering it's coming from a guy that doesn't cover the team.

He concludes that the Rangers might be the most talented team in the AL West but there are always concerns about injuries, especially at middle infield.

It's good stuff, check it out ...

Lone Star Ball Hey ADAM, Question about the Lima Dress

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, over at RedRaiderSports.com, there are a bunch of us Rangers fans and a certain poster said at the beginning of the season he would wear a dress to work if the Rangers finished above .500

Anyway, as the season has progressed the guy is starting to get more and more heat and now people are starting to pick out the dress. Obviously, the perfect dress would be the Melissa Lima dress that you so proudly own.

If the Rangers end up being over .500, what are the chances you would let the guy borrow the dress to wear to work?

Lone Star Ball Happy Anniversary Baseball! (1846)

The First Game Of Baseball Played With Modern Rules Was Played On June 19, 1846

The foundations of modern baseball were laid with the 1845 formulation of the "Knickerbocker Rules," which formalized the game. According to these rules, a runner could not be sent out of play by getting hit with a thrown ball; instead, fielders were required to tag or force the runner, as is done today. It is widely thought that the first competitive game under the new rules was played at Elysian Fields in Hoboken, NJ

Lone Star Ball Mad Max Taking Infield at 1st

per Jamie per Evan.

Please Lord, could it be possible for Max to pick it up REALLY quick and then have a similar debut in the bigs as Brandon Boggs??

I'm reaching here but that's what I tend to do.

Oh and for my 75 words, I give you the English Bill of Rights.

The English Bill of Rights (1689), one of the fundamental documents of English constitutional law, differed substantially in form and intent from the American Bill of Rights, because it was intended to address the rights of citizens as represented by Parliament against the Crown. However, some of its basic tenets are adopted and extended to the general public by the U.S. Bill of Rights, including

  • the right of petition
  • an independent judiciary (the Sovereign was forbidden to establish his own courts or to act as a judge himself),
  • freedom from taxation by royal (executive) prerogative, without agreement by Parliament (legislators),
  • freedom from a peace-time standing army,
  • freedom [for Protestants] to bear arms for their defence, as allowed by law,
  • freedom to elect members of Parliament without interference from the Sovereign,
  • freedom of speech in Parliament,
  • freedom from cruel and unusual punishments and excessive bail, and
  • freedom from fines and forfeitures without trial.

Lone Star Ball Roster Issues

Ok, so apparantly if Hank's back doesn't feel better tomorrow, the Rangers will be forced to put him on the DL

That would force the club to call up someone to either take Hank's spot at third or Vasquez's spot as a utility infielder.

First choice is obviously Metcalf, but he's injured.

Arias is on the 40-man roster but unable to take the field. Salty's on the 40 but limited to first base or catcher.

German Duran would seem the liely choice but he's not on the 40.

This could be a good thing.

I say DFA one of the following. Jennings, Broussard or Cat.

I guess another option would be to cut ties with Mench (is he on the 40??) or DFA Cruz (assume he's on the 40).

They could try to avoid the situation if Hank doesn't feel like it's too bad and possibly play Vasquez at 3rd and use Cat or Melhuse as emergency infielders (ugh x 10)

It'll be really interesting to see how this plays out.

Lone Star Ball Nelson Cruz Clears Waivers

according to the namecaller at DMN Blog

and this 75 words nonsense is so stupid. There isn't a way to simply state a few words about some news regarding the team that we root for. Big frickin deal if there isn't 75 words. I am not a professional blogger. I read some blogs and don't see any reason why I should have to include 75 words on such a basic topic such as this one.

There. Random venting has concluded. Hopefully that is 75 words or more.
