Testudo Times Pitt will be our primary bball partner

http://www.theacc.com/genrel/020312aaa.html

Pretty interesting development. Cuse will be in our football division, Pitt going to the Coastal. So we will not have Pitt as a football rival, something I was hoping for. But what makes that more interesting is that there will only be one "primary" partner for basketball, the school we are guaranteed to play home and home. Duke and UVA will no longer be guaranteed twice a year...I'm sure this will cause some people to be pretty upset. My other question is why try to make Pitt our basketball rival if you aren't going to put them in our football division as well? Swofford strikes again

Testudo Times MD last in ACC in men's recruiting expenses

The website businessofcollegesports.com does some good work researching data in college sports and is doing a series on expenses for each major conference in regards to recruiting. First up was the ACC, where Maryland finds itself in last place in men's sports for recruiting expenses. It's an interesting table to look at. You'd think with more teams than most schools, that would lead to more raw spending, but I guess not. Take it for what its worth, I just thought it was an interesting tidbit to pass along

Testudo Times Future football games at M&T?

Saw this today in a Baltimore Sun article about the U2 concert coming to town this week:

In addition, Frenz said the stadium will host a number of college football games in the next five years. Maryland will play West Virginia in 2013 and Virginia Tech in 2014. M&T gets the Army-Navy game in 2014 and 2016, and Navy will play Ohio State here in 2014.

Did anyone know that playing WVU and VT in Baltimore was in the works at all? I like the idea of playing more games in Baltimore, because our fan base is more centrally located in Baltimore than DC, meaning more people are likely to come to the game, especially against a key regional rival. But you'd think we would also like to be able to play those big games at Byrd for a real college, home game atmosphere. I guess it has its positives and negatives.

Testudo Times Potential big man addition

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6309168

Jordan Latham, 6 foot 8 freshman from Xavier is looking to transfer. Only played in 16 games this season, but he is from Baltimore, went to City (where Faust goes), is a legit big body, and was either a 3 or 4 star recruit in his class IIRC. Not sure if there is any interest in either direction, since he may be looking to go to a smaller school where he can play a lot. But, this could be a backup option if Judge or Hubert doesnt happen/Jordan leaves. Just an idea. Keep in mind Xavier was an NCAA tourney team, so its not like they were Towson or something. Speaking of which, on a negative comparison side, he could be very similar to former Terp and now former Tiger Braxton Dupree. Big man with potential who doesn't progress. Just a thought

Per Bruce Feldman. This is very interesting. I had no idea he was even a candidate for anyone's HC position outside of our own...

Testudo Times Patsos staying at Loyola

I am on the text message list for WNST.net, a sports radio station in Baltimore, and I just received a text saying that Jimmy Patsos will remain at Loyola in Baltimore, per DC station AM 980, which I believe is the Washington D.C. ESPN station. This is kind of a punch in the gut, I think most of us were hoping it was Patsos returning, helping to ease the transition from losing Driesell. Oh well.

Testudo Times Can you name all Terps of the past decade?

Take this quiz on sporcle.com. I have had some free time on my hands with all of the snow and decided to test my knowledge of Maryland basketball. I made the quiz and was surprised at some of the easy names I forgot off the top of my head. Don't forget about all those walk-ons that seem to easily be forgotten (cough, McCall, cough) Good luck to all and enjoy!
