Canis Hoopus OpinionMart Survey?

is any one else seeing an OpinionMart survey box pop up when logging into Canis Hoopus?

I am just wondering if this is legit or something I need to be concerned about. I got burned by a survey from a trusted site once before so I tend to be ultra cautious about these things. If it's legit, I have no problem giving feed back on this sight, but if it's not, then i need to readjust my anti spyware software. Thnkx

Canis Hoopus Time for a Reality Check on Darko/Kahn

I don't think that the Darko signing should be included in the nonsense contract catagories (like what Gay got). after all, there were some who were suggesting, just a few months ago that it would take 8-10m per year to sign him, Kahn signed him for just 5.

While darko may not be the next great center, his salary does seem to be in line with fringe starting centers, and he is better then any other center optiions we could get during FA. really the only other option at Center for us was Run DMC, and while he might have a higher ceiling he is unlikely to be dramaticaly better then Darko this year. (better offensively most likely, but unlikely to be as good at D, and definetly a worse passer, and I was firmly in the boat of drafting cousins).

this team is, right now, much better then last years team. all last year we were B*tching and moaning about how poor our wing play was. Kahn new it too and he addressed it in this years draft. even if the choices were not the greatest choices, there is at least a rhym to them, and it is time we stopped acting like there isn't.  This years squade was never going to make the playoffs no matter who we drafted, even if we had lucked into Evan Turner, but at least we will be better then last year, without giving up the chance to get even better in the following year..

Daily Norseman Tis the Time to Look to the Future

No that our season is over, we need to start looking towards what the futur holds for the beloved Purlpe.

1.  Will Frazier return as our DC next year, or will he take his excellent coaching, and abilitiy to make halftime and season long adjustments to an other team.  And if he leaves, who do we get to replace him.

2.  Birk, Boulware, Sharper, Kleinsasser.  All are UFA.  which ones should we resign?

3.  What Free Agents should we target this off-season.

4.  What positions (and therefor players), should we target in the draft.

Daily Norseman Breacking News!

Lane Kiffin, as has been expected for about 2 weeks now has been officialy fired as the Raiders HC.  We should act fast in bringing him in as our new OC.  meny want us to get Linnehan, but I like Kiffin a little better as our OC, in part because he is familier with the West Coast Offense that we are currently built around.  He would give us the most seemless transition, that is if you can have a seemless transition mid season.

Also, our QB and Wide Recievers coaches must go, they are not preparing the players under their supporvision to play at the NFL lvl.  I just don't know who you get top replace them at this stage, so if not now, then at the end of the season.

Daily Norseman Sunday's Expectations

Ever the Optimist I fully expect the Vikings to pull out a win this sunday.  But don't get me wrong, I think it will be inspite of Chillies play calling and the insertion of Gus Gus, not because of it.

I expect Gus Gus's line to look something like this: 13-16 of 30'ish for 130-150 yrds, 1 TD and 1 Pick and at least 1 or 2 sacks, since he wont be able scramble out of the way effectively.

I expect at least 130 yrds rushing from whoever gets the lions share of carries this week wether it be Taylor or AP, and at least 1 rushing TD

I think that Longwell will kick 2 or 3 field goals

I believe our D will sack the venerable Delhomme 2, and limit the panthers to 14 points.

Final prediction, Vikings 20, Car 14.

Daily Norseman Coaching Situation

A lot has been said about Chilly's coaching ability and his talant anallysis.  one area that he did not seeming tell falsehoods on his resume was his ability to pick good D coordinators.  I firmly belive that the reigns must be handed over to a new coach at the end of the season.  sooner if we continue to lose as the result of a sputtering offense.  I first choice for his replacement is Leslie Frazier.  along with Chilly I would probably fire Bevell and Kevin Rogers, for failiing to utilise our offense and the failure to properly develop T-Jack.  I would probably promote either Mason or Pagac to be the new D-Coordinator.  and for my biggest surprise ... I woudl bring in Lane Kiffin to be our O-Coordinator.

He has experience calling plays.  with developing talanted, young QB's and with the West Coast Offense.  I think we would tak the job, because 2-3 yrs as a successful O-Coordinator will be the only way he gets another shot at HC after he is inevitably fired in Oakland.

Daily Norseman T-Jack by the Numbers

If we look at T-Jack’s numbers so far they are not great, but not without promise if he were to be utilized better. First off, let’s look at some of those raw numbers

Over all T-Jack is 30/59 for 308 yrds with 1 TD and 1 INT, 10 for 66 yrds rushing and a QB rating of 64.8. However much of T-Jacks performance can be summed up as a “Tale of two Halves.” In the first half his line looks like this 7/16 for 68 yrds and no TD’s, 3 for 9 yrds rushing 56.3 QB rating; while his second half looks like this: 23/43 240yrds 1 TD 1 INT, 7 for 57 yrds rushing and a 68 QB rating. He is 5/8 for 54 yrds in the 2 min drill. In addition he is 7/12 for 64 yrds and 4/8 for 50 yrds when passing to the right or left, but a combined 5/15 when passing wide right/left and center.

What do these numbers tell us? First off, they tell us that when he passes more he does better. For T-Jack to be successful he needs to be allowed to get into a rhythm which means quick succession high percentage, mid range passing plays mostly to the right and left. He should get at least 16 passing plays in the 1 half to help him establish his rhythm early. To see the truth of these statements we need only look to T-Jacks Pre-Season numbers: 15/22 200 yrds, 2 TD’s no INT’s no Sacks 127 QB rating. His total playing time in the preseason was the equivalent of less than 1 half of one game, so we can see that when he comes out passing, he gets a good rhythm going and we see just how accurate a passer he can be.

Yes his numbers have been ugly thus far, but there are some things to be encouraged about. First his QB rating and completion percentage both went up by 14 points from game 1 to game 2. Hopefully this is a trend that continues. He just needs his coaches to have a little faith in him, let him loose and do what he does best.

To put it another way, he was one dropped pass (I’m looking at you Shiancoe), and a better Referee (Stop taking Ted Thompsons bribes at the replay booth) from being 2-0 instead of 0-2. So let’s lay off booing T-Jack. I am not saying we should give him any breaks; after all, he did throw some balls straight into the ground, and that pick was inexcusable, but he has been playing better than the overall stats might indicate. And he has been doing it against 2 of the better Pass Defenses in the league.

Daily Norseman We need more Garrett Mills

The Title says it all.  He is our third best recieving threat and last nights game showed it.  3 for 49 and 2 first downs.  Not a bad night from a Tight End.  good enough to put him well a head of league average.  I know its just one game, but he looked awfully good out their.

I some how think that "Fumbles and Drops" Shiancoe must bear some responsability for that last second INT.  After all he was the target, did he run a horrendous rout?  I know the ball was over thrown, but if he had run a better rout, maybe the drive gets one more shot?
