The story has a quote where Bob Arum says Coto's cut isn't that bad. Can't wait for this, i just hope it isn't Arum just talking. I would assume it would have to go down at 147 lbs which shouldn't be that big of a deal seeing as Coto and Manny are similar in height and reach. I like Manny to win this, by a KO if it does happen. I'm a little worried that Coto has become a retreating fighter in his last few fights. I remember when he was a devestating pressure fighter and body puncher, it seems that that is so long ago.

Marquez - Diaz Rematch?

after watching a replay of the fight from saturday i wondered if the rest of the boxing fans in the country are as intrested in a rematch as i am.
One reason why i want a rematch is because im so high on Juan Diaz. The second marquez leaves the division diaz will become the class of the division. Cut issues aside he is talented and a former champion who's only 2 losses are to world class fighters. Maybe im so high on juan because, unlike sc, i feel like he went out like a champ against nate cambell when he was having all the eye issues. Fought til the end and never just rolled over. Same with his loss to marquez, he kept coming forward until marquez put him on the ground with great punches from a no doubt about it hall of famer. Another reason is that this was a great fight fought at such a high level of skill and was so competetive its almost as if we were cheated out of the rest of the fight because of the cut and knockout. Its the biggest fight to be made at lightweight still, and i know that the big fights for marquez are all above 135 (manny, hatton, flloyd etc.) but instead of waiting til late summer (at earliest) for the manny-hatton winner why not give juan the rematch. I know that most knockout victims are not awarded the privilage of a rematch but juan fought punch for punch with one of the two best fighters in the world. This is not meant to take anything away from Marquez, he won and put on a textbook display of finishing a fight with the 2 knockdowns in the 9th round. Its just that the fights hes looking foreward to arent available til late summer at best, why not fight again. Both are golden boy fighters so it would seem that the fight would be easy to make, and with the show they put on on saturday selling tickets will not be hard. what do you guys think? does juan deserve a rematch? does a rematch matter? are you intrested in seeing marquez-diaz II?

Tip Your Hat to ESPN

I've covered this in another post but it deserves mention on its own. Respect needs to be given to the "Worldwide Leader in Sports" for their continued and increased coverage of boxing. Even some of the second tier fights have recieved coverage, apparent when ESPN ran Taylor over Lacy in its ticker and some other fights it showed attention to. Even with the cancelation of Wednesday Night Fights they are showing serious intrest in making Friday Night Fighs more watchable and focused on drawing bigger names with their season opening show headlined by Yuriorkis Gamboa. The coverage has obviously been increased with the "Dream Match" this week with Teddy Atlas on "First Take," Manny doing interviews on ESPN News, Oscar on "Jim Rome is Burning" and of course the "Sunday Conversation" with Oscar. Also there have been numerous analysis spots on ESPN News where Dan Rafel has been given air time, even if it was via phone. For boxing to return to mainstream, which is far fetched but bear with me, ESPN must play a huge part in that. As of right now they are doing their part.

(note - after typing this up it came to my attention that the weigh in for oscar-manny will be shown live on the network.)

Light heavyweight Joe Calzaghe may return to the ring next year in front of his hometown fans in Wales, but it doesn't sound like a rematch with Bernard Hopkins is high on his list. "Screw Hopkins, man," he told the London Mirror. "He got his a*** kicked by a white boy. He's got to accept that. He's an idiot. A complete a*******. I don't want to give him a rematch. It wouldn't be a good fight. The guy's a racist. He was never going to give me any credit. The way he fought against me in Las Vegas was cowardly because he held on all night and feigned being hit by low blows. He tried to steal the fight." Calzaghe is expected to make an appearance at the WBO Convention this week.

                                                -fightnews.com
