Thinking Bout the Good Ole Days
Was thinking about the lions, really a lot of different teams and cities in the league for that matter. Oh yeah, and before I continue I know a posted on Detroit moving to LA and got everyone riled up, but whatever. I freaking was pissed off at the time and the crazy idea popped into my head that we would get better quicker by shipping out our team and bringing in a team like the vikes. Truth is I wouldn’t ever pull that trigger even if we were offered the colts. I want to see this team rise. Its what keeps me reading all the news I can about em and watching and hoping this is finally the game when the all pistons click and we explode to the next tier of talented teams. What is ironic though, I bet when we do finally reign supreme I may end up missing these days when we were the underdogs every Sunday and always had the chance to deliver an upset and shock the public.
Is there anything you guys are gonna miss when we are the best and winning SBs when thinking back to seasons like we’re in now?
This is it!!! Formula for Lions Success
Ok, after another numbing loss and pondering another 3 years before we switch coaches and get a new qb a glimmer of hope entered my mind. While this is a long shot for sure, I think if the right people were involved we could actually make it work.
What's the one thing that detroit really has going for us - and don't say stafford or calvin, really any player for that matter cause they all blow! Its our stadium - we actually have one of the best stadiums in the league. I'd even take it over the cowboys mini roman empire. So my thought is, we should use this stadium to our advantage (again, since it is the only thing worth salvaging on this horrible horrible team - sorry i'm really pissed).
You may have heard that LA got a new stadium approved to be built, but as of now, no takers. I say we jump on this opportunity to ship this sorry ass bunch of pathetic loser players (i could field a better team at my local 24hr gym) to LA - yup the LA Lions (even sounds good). Now with the trash finally out of town we entice a new team to come to Dtown. I prefer the vikings - would even be a short trip for em. Actually, there isn't a team in this league that i wouldn't trade places with. This includes all the bottom dwellers - id take oakland, the browns, the chiefs - any team over the sorry ass team we have. They have no heart. All they offer is a 50cent hallmark responses to repeated losses. calvin johnson is OVERRATED. I don't care what you say - he is overrated. How pathetic have we become - Stafford runs for a meanless gain and gets whacked and the city is ready to throw him a parade. Give me a break. this is joke, its football and if there is anything this team has demonstrated, is they have no clue how to play it.
Ship this F'ng team out of here. Ahh, i feel better now and can go about my monday.
Famous Quotes: Stafford and Harrington
After yet another loss I was sitting quietly on my couch pondering the recent quote by brett favre on our new up and coming superstar quarterback. In case you missed it, Brett had this to say about Stafford ""I mean, he's got all the tools, there's no doubt about it. But there's only one way to get better, and that's play. They drafted him for a lot of reasons, and from what I can tell, I think he'll have a bright future."
That got me thinking, I wonder what the critics had to say about good ole Joey when he came out...I'm not saying Matt's the next Joey, the point I'm making is there always exist a tremendous amount of hype when it comes to high round QBs. The only thing that has ever been able to truely filter the hype is their sunday performances.
“When it’s crunch time, it doesn’t matter what he’s done to that point, Joey will put the ball where it can be caught or make the audible or get a first down on a scramble to keep the drive alive.”
—Oregon coach Mike Belotti
“His work ethic is unmatched by anyone. Off the field, he’s just relaxed.”
—Former Oregon teammate Justin Peele
“He’s just a total team player. As long as I’ve been coaching him, Joey was never interested in personal awards.”
—Joey’s offensive coordinator at Oregon Jeff Tedford
“Joey Harrington is a special football player.”
—Senior Bowl President Steve Hale
“He’s going to be the quarterback for the ages here. The kid is a playmaker and a natural-born leader. I love the way he handles himself. When he tells you something, you believe in him, because when you look in his eyes, you see a guy with a ton of confidence and a lot of determination.”
—NFL veteran Todd Lyght
“He really is an accurate passer, especially for how young he is. He makes good quick decisions. He pulls the trigger, and he pulls it fast.”
—Former Lions coach Marty Mornhinweg
“Joey does a lot of important things naturally, and he’s a leader. He’s coming along quickly.”
—Mornhinweg
“Trust me, this guy is going to be a damn good quarterback. He reminds me a little of Brett Favre. He doesn’t have to set his feet when he slings it to get the ball where it needs to go.”
—Cowboys safety Darren Woodson
“I think he’s going to be a great quarterback.”
—Saints head coach Jim Haslett
“I’ve been around young quarterbacks who get so freaked out that you can see the whites of their eyes, but not this guy. He’s so relentlessly positive and has such a passion for the game that it’s a pleasure to block for him.”
—Lions teammate Tony Semple
“Joey’s a special player. He wants to perfect everything he does.”
—NFL veteran Eric Davis
Chiefs cutting McBride
According to PFF, he does fit there d philosophy anymore and will most likely be picked up by detroit given the ties to good ole gunther. We sorely need more help on d, so I'd welcome this pick. He is young and has loads of upside. Plus, the gunther connection means that there would be very little risk in the pick - basically we wouldn't be buying an unknown. What do you guys think?
Who should be the Lions Captains this Season?
Any thoughts? I'd personally love to see one of the new veterans we have brought in step up and be recognized...Foote would be my choice (I dont care that he is signed for only one season).
My guess is that culpepper will be named a captain as well - which I again would agree with even if he is pulled coming out of the bye week. Calvin seems a little too quiet for this role, but I'm sure Raiola will step up again. Peterson is another new vet I would love to see step up and lead these guys.
