The Loss of GREAT Coach
I am still in shock at this weeks events. In my opinion Coach Tuberville's forced resignation is one of the poorest decisions Auburn has ever made with respect to its athletic programs. While Coach Tuberville did resign he no doubt had Jay Jacobs, Jay Gouge's, and Bobby Lowder's finger prints all over his back.
Here's a coach that brought AU football a .680 winnig percentage over the last 10 years, an SEC championship, multiple division championships, and a 7-3 record against 'bama. In addition to this he clearly understood that the young men he worked with were STUDENT athletes. In Coach Tuberville's tenure at Auburn many of his players graduated wth GPA's of 3.0 or higher. While I do not have the exact percentage, I do believe that he had a greater than 70% graduation rate. He also taught his players about responsibility off the field as is documentd by the lack of any major incidents as well as by community service that was performed by many of TT's players.
Make no mistake this was a very frustrating year and the drubbing by alabama at years end was sickening. That being said, this decision is one we will all regret for many years to come. This decision to force Coach Tuberville out, in my opinion is the result of a refusal to stand up to continuing pressure being brought from the source of significant amounts of money.
Coach Tuberville does not deserve the treatment he received. It's high time for AU to "man up" to the sources of financial support, admit their mistake and reconcile with Coach Tuberville.
