For the first time ever, rumors fly that PETCO Park fences will be moved in
This does seem to be the most direct indication from someone in top management (CEO) that the fences actually will be moved.
Jon Morosi finally eats some crow.
Our relentless Twitter harassment campaign has succeeded (the Padres play may have had something to do with this, as well).
I have to admit though, something about this makes me nervous. I like it better when there are no expectations. At least he's still picking the Giants to win the division.

I don't really know what to say about this other than we can never let Andre Ethier beat us again.
Whoever came up with this sneeze story owes Mat an apology. This is getting ridiculous.
Bengie Molina will torture the Padres no more!!
Traded to Texas for relief pitcher Chris Ray. So glad to see him go.

Buster Olney: White Sox may start trading pieces; Peavy considered "flat-out untradeable"
In less than a year he went from being a very valuable commodity to "untradeable". Poor Jake.
Fan Conversion Day
I'm not from San Diego. I wasn't born here. In fact, I'd never been to San Diego until the day I moved here seven years ago. That doesn't make me unique. As anyone who lives here can tell you, there are a lot of transplants in San Diego.
I was born in Boston. I grew up in Connecticut. I have been a Red Sox fan since I was old enough to crap in my diapers. That makes me one of very, very many "locals" who have an outside rooting interest when it comes to baseball.
A college friend of mine from New York, who also has been living in San Diego for the past several years, has always been my go to guy whenever the Sox and Yanks go head-to-head. We used to watch the games together in college and antagonize each other to the point of blind rage. It was fun.
Now that we're both in San Diego, we still try to make it a point to get together and watch at least a few of the Sox-Yanks matchups each season. It was during one of these recent matchups that certain things were said that can never be taken back.

Ryan Howard signs 5-year, $125 million contract
This may as well be an official announcement from the Padres front office that they will not be re-signing Adrian.
Peavy trade results are in. We won!
I love how this guy puts this article out after two disasterous starts by Jake.
"The Padres aren't presently constructed to win."
I just wanted to shine a light on a very, very lazy piece of journalism. Here's a synopsis:
- Adrian Gonzalez is good
- The Red Sox would be better if they had him
- The Padres aren't good, so they should trade him
- The end
This is essentially same article that's been written 312 times since last year, and it doesn't attempt to reveal any fresh bits of information or perspective.
Grrrrr...
Apparently, Padres are winning "bidding war" for Yorvit Torrealba
He's trying to get the Mets to outbid the Padres, but it doesn't look like they're going to take the bait.
Not sure he's much (if any) better than Hundley. But at least we won't have to see 40+ games of Dusty Ryan.
"SD" Jerseys
Since there's all this talk about the "SD" being the "official" logo of the Padres. Why not create a simple, clean jersey with the "SD" logo? To my knowledge, we've never done a plain white jersey with the "SD" on the breast pocket area. I think it would appease both the traditionalists and the new ownership's need to put their own signature on the team.
Too plain? Too much like Detroit?

Is this a Lake Elsinore Storm logo?
If you compare this to the regular Storm logo, it's exactly the same, except this one seems cockeyed -- like it's sneering instead of staring.
I found this today on an NSFW website. I don't want to get in trouble by posting a link. But I can give hints to get to this if anyone's interested.
Dear Mr. Garfinkel,
Please don't let this atrocity scare you away from reviving the brown and mustard uni's.
Sincerely,
Everyone
Yahoo! Sports agrees with Ron Artest -- there is no baseball team in San Diego.

Mark Neely doesn't say much for a play-by-play announcer
Mark Neely clocks in second-to-last on the list of chattiest MLB play-by-play guys. This "study" was based on a sample size of ONE inning, so take it with a grain of salt.
Petco Park -- My Appreciation Grows
I just got back into town from a weekend trip to Boston/Cape Cod and wanted to publicly express how much my appreciation has grown for Petco Park.
I went to the Red Sox/ White Sox game on Thursday at Fenway and I can now say without reservation that I am firmly in the camp of people who say "tear that smelly dump down and build a new stadium."
I grew up in Boston and Connecticut and went to tons of Red Sox games as a kid. Last summer I made the trip back to Fenway for a Sox-Yanks game and still clung to the romanticized vision of a "quaint" stadium with lots of history -- a relic worth preserving. My experience this year was very different.
The atmosphere around the stadium is great. The bars are fun and full of enthusiastic fans. The stadium sucks.
After managing to get five seats together at face value in right field, my friends and I were poised for a night of baseball magic. Instead we ended up in seats that didn't face the field. I'm not kidding. It's not as it they were facing the outfield instead of towards the plate... they literally did not face any part of the field. Looking straight ahead in our seats afforded a great view of the outfield bullpens and the bleachers. To see what was happening at home plate required one to crank one's neck 90-degrees to the left. If there were no poles or people standing in the way, you could almost tell what was happening at the plate. And these were not obstructed view seats; the entire right field grandstand is like this.
The seats are tiny and cramped. The person in front of you is practically sitting in your lap. The concourses are crowded and dirty. The bathrooms smell like someone slaughtered a yak and hid the remains in the walls.
I have always thought of Petco as a nice, but somewhat soulless stadium -- that the modern amenities had taken something away from the "pure" experience of baseball.
Well, I'd like to apologize to the breakfast-loving people of San Diego who financed such a gem of a stadium. I will never again take for granted that every seat faces the field. Petco, I love your clean floors, your comfortable seats, your wide concourses, your great sightlines, your spacious bathrooms, your seating capacity, and your many great eateries.
There are still some things that could be done to improve the Petco Park experience, but I think that we should all pause for a moment and give thanks that we're able to watch baseball in a world-class park all summer, and that we don't have to pay exorbitant prices for the "privilege" of sitting in what may be the worst stadium in baseball.
I only hope that the new, young Padres can soon add a little history and tradition to our great park.
