What is your take on Rymer Liriano, his stat line is impressive, but that does not always give the full perspective?
Klaw (2:00 PM)

It's legit - might have the best overall tools of any position player in that system. BTW, heard something very interesting from a scout who saw their Eugene club this summer: Donavan Tate wasn't just playing better, but was showing more effort, taking extra BP, playing with more energy. That's not the entire solution to his lack of development, but it helps a lot.

Kyle Blanks, 1B/OF, Padres (Triple-A Tucson)
He just can't stay here much longer. Anthony Rizzo had many people all but forgetting about Blanks during the first part of the season, but Blanks has, for lack of a better phrase, gone completely nuts at Triple-A. He went 9-for-18 with four home runs over the weekend, is batting .411/.477/.884 in 24 games since arriving in Tucson, and Rizzo is batting .174 in 23 big-leagues games. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what the right move is on an immediate basis, but finding out what to do with both players could prove to be a bit more challenging down the road.

We're number 1! We're number 1! Jedd Gyorko is number 1 on this weeks list. Also Beemer Weems makes an appearance in the team photo.

Only 1 Padres farmhand on the list this week. Sampson (11) returns to the list after two strong starts.

Derrick (Tulsa, OK)
The Padres success has mainly been due to great pitching (their offense hasn't provided any real surprises) and I think a pretty mediocre NL has a lot to do with it as well (I just don't see many deep and scary lineups out there). Do you think they can pitch this well through the whole season?
Klaw: (1:49 PM):
No. They're fascinating because they're in a good yet bad spot: Hoyer needed to come in and turn the big league team over, and I think he planned to do it over the course of 2010, but now, how could he shop veterans at this deadline when they're not likely to be more than 2-3 games out of a playoff spot even if they have a bad July? The worst thing that could happen to them would be to hang in the race into mid-September, miss the playoffs, and miss any opportunities to flip veterans to desperate contenders.

Gaslamp Ball An Intimate Dinner with Sensual Moments: Tom Garfinkel and ThePadfather, and 25 other people

So I was lucky enough to run into some tickets for a dinner with President and COO of the Padres Tom Garfinkel.  Earlier today I received a call asking if I was free tonight and was offered a couple tickets for a dinner event where Tom would be speaking to a few season ticket holders as well as some prospective season ticket holders.

So being the committed Padre fan that I am, I bailed on taking my friend to the airport so I could attend.  Come along with me as we go into an enchanted evening.
