Klay Thompson Season Highlights

24 days ago P1_jason_richardson_si_tiny thermodynamic 5 comments

There's been reports that he's looking to come back to the NBA. He's 31, but I've read that he's being killing it in the Euroleague (and winning their defensive player of the year). He could be our starting SF and slide over to PF as well to alleviate *some* of the big man depth issues we have.

Imagine having a defense anchored by a healthy Kirilenko and Bogut... now that would be scary.

Orlando Pinstriped Post ESPN the Magazine's use of advanced statistics (ESPN/Marvel Series)

I'm sure a number of you have seen the ESPN/Marvel NBA preview, at least for the Magic, where Dwight is portrayed as Wolverine (huh?).  If you haven't, it's an excellent collaboration with some wonderful artwork.  All the covers/previews are at this link:

Ed. note: link removed due to copyright issues, as explained in comments. - BQR

What surprised me, however, is the use of advanced statistics in many of the previews:

player efficiency rating

true shooting percentage

offensive efficiency rating

team defensive efficiency

total rebounding rate

win percentage in close games

team defensive rebounding percentage

defensive rating

And one "normal" stat that I've never seen counted before:

charges per game

Now, I'm still a stats newbie and I don't know a few of the above mentioned stat categories, but their presence in a national magazine surprised me.  I don't read ESPN the Magazine normally, or at all, so maybe this is the norm, but I didn't think so.

Just something that I thought was very cool and progressive.

Orlando Pinstriped Post A look at who should play replacement SF minutes

With Pietrus still out due to an ankle sprain, and Barnes nursing a nagging big toe injury, I thought it would be a good idea to see who, statistically, would be the best player on the Magic to play replacement SF minutes for them.  I've decided to compare the 4 players who have played minutes at the SF position, however slight, and then look at our main SFs, Pietrus and Barnes.  I've focused on PER instead of overall team offense and defense in an effort to see the individual contributions each player gives.

NetsDaily Where my NDF peeps at?!

Hey everyone, thought I'd start a little meet and greet for the people also on NetsDaily Forums.  I'm kdub from the forums, btw if anyone recognizes me.

I think SBN has a great blog system and fan-oriented layout including real-time commenting (including up-ranks), fan generated blog posts and "shots", a more modern look, and most likely, a more stable infrastructure (hopefully google doesn't say ND is a malware site anymore).

I don't think the fan-post/shot system will overtake the forums, but I think it's great way to communicate deep and quick thoughts, and I do think the commenting system will making NDF posters more likely to comment.

Excited about the new format and anxious to see all the regulars starting commenting and posting around here!

"As his manager, I will only allow ‘Bron to do the dunk contest if Vince Carter comes back out," O’Neal said. "If Kobe comes back out and if another big name comes back out. If we could get a big prize and have half of the money go to the people of Haiti and the other half to the winner.

"The guys that are in it, no disrespect to them, but there won’t really be any competition for LeBron. I want to see Kobe. I want to see Vince and I will allow my client to enter."

Orlando Pinstriped Post Orlando Magic "Be Magic" Mobile Wallpapers (Palm Pre, iPhone, etc)

I resized/cropped and slightly touched up some wallpapers found on the Orlando Magic website. It's part of their "Be Magic" theme. They are at 320x480 resolution and should work perfect with the Palm Pre, iPhone, Hero/Droid Eris and other mobile phones with that resolution.  If anyone would like larger versions at the same aspect ratio, just ask.  Enjoy and Go Magic!

Magic have only 8 players on contract. I wouldn't mind signing Kasib Powell, who has shown versatility and skills at the SF position, Hendrix who is a known beast inside, Robinson who has been lauded as a PG.

I know it's summer league, but the Magic want bargains. Here they are!

"Anderson is going to be much more of an addition than people think," Van Gundy said. "He's a name that gets totally left out as if he were just a throw-in. The deal was made for Vince (Carter), but people are discounting what we got back in him. People got to know Courtney (Lee) and he played well for us in the playoffs. We certainly lost a good, young player, but we got back a good, young player. This is a guy who is three years younger than Courtney and he fits the way we play very. He's a good player who is a good fit. I'm not trying to make him out to be a star, but he's certainly at Courtney's level. That is sort of lost in the shuffle."

John Denton of Florida Today reports on SVG telling everyone that they got 2 players in the trade. Further reading in the article shows how he also compares him favorably to Wallace and Battie. Perhaps he's also trying to save face in case they can't get Wallace?
