Tech picks up another 2011 commit!
If you follow the twitter link, towards the bottom of the page it now lists Sam Eguavoen on Tech's roster. He's an OLB for Garland Lakeview Centennial High. His offer list doesn't look so great but I guess that doesn't always mean anything (aka Welker). Guns up Sam!
James Castleman vs. Bradley Marquez Friday night
Are any of you guys in the Odessa area going to see the game tomorrow night in Odessa? Odessa High is hosting Amarillo High which will be pitting AHS DL James Castleman against Odessa High's Bradley Marquez. This should REALLY be an interesting game to watch to see if Castleman can help shut down Marquez. Just in case any of you somehow missed it (and I don't see how), Marquez has rushed for over 350 yards and 6 touchdowns in BOTH of his last two games. Can't wait to see how this one turns out.
Channel listing for Tech's reality show, 'The Ride.'
Good catch from RR.com. I've been wondering what stations this was going to be broadcast on. Looks like pretty decent Texas coverage for the first go-round.
Stewart Mandel likes us over A&M
"Ultimately, Tech still lags behind division stalwarts Texas and Oklahoma, but I'm a bit puzzled as to all this buzz about Texas A&M being the new "hot" team in the South. Last I checked, Mike Sherman was still the coach of the Aggies. Thanks, but I'll put my money on Tuberville."
Britton Barbee out for season
Torn Achilles tendon. OUCH!!!!
Tech picks up corner back from Oregon State
That was fast!!! Looks like we at least already have one of the guys replaced.
Two players leave team
"Coach Tuberville just told the media that redshift freshman linebacker Brandon Mahoney and safety Yashua Williams have left the team. Both Mahoney and Williams are still in school but will not be associated with football going forward, "they both decided to hang it up".
And then there were three
According to Chris Level, Brandon Sharpe was released from the Saints and picked up by the Cowboys. Sharpe, Williams, and Wall are now the Texas Tech Trio for the Cowboys. Hopefully they can all see playing time and it would be even more awesome if they made the field at the same time. WRECKEM!!!
Baron Batch article on RP.com
Pretty good write-up on Batch. Part 1 of a two part story. I didn't realize that Batch had surgery two months ago for a hernia.
Guy Bailey is going!
...to be on the NCAA Board of Directors. I wonder if they'll get tired of hearing "Let me double check and see what Pony thinks."
Looks like Graham Harrell is having a positive affect at Green Bay's training camp! Get yer guns up Aaron Rodgers!!!
By the way, Jamar Wall is now OFFICIALLY a Dallas Cowboy.

Something to think about
Since we're now only going to be playing 3 OOC games instead of our usual 4, do you guys think this is going to negatively affect our conference? That's one more game that will show up as a loss in-conference for one of the teams, potentially giving the league an overall worse record because we're cannabalizing each other for one more game. Since there is no more North/South division, it almost seems like this be worse off for most teams. I was reading something of a similar argument here (http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=188&f=1650&t=6048291).
There are going to be 2 or 3 clear cut leaders (if there weren't already) and the rest of the conference is mediocre to junk. For reference is the Pac-10 from last year. Does this hurt our bowl chances if we don't outright win the conference?
| Oregon | 8-1 | 10-3 |
| Arizona | 6-3 | 8-5 |
| Oregon State | 6-3 | 8-5 |
| Stanford | 6-3 | 8-5 |
| USC | 5-4 | 9-4 |
| California | 5-4 | 8-5 |
| Washington | 4-5 | 5-7 |
| UCLA | 3-6 | 7-6 |
| Arizona State | 2-7 | 4-8 |
| Washington State | 0-9 | 1-11 |
What do you guys think?
Everyone get with your buddy!
Quick article explains how we might save in travel expenses if we do go with the Pac-10. We'd have travel partner (ie another school) to travel with and split costs. Our potential buddy? Colorado.
Nebraska to start Big 10 sports in 2011.
I've been watching the Nebraska BOR webcast and their Chancelor Perlman said they will be involved in the Big 10's academics starting this school year and athletically in 2011. I don't know if that's set in stone or not but by everything I had heard, I thought this whole party wasn't going to end until 2012 or so. Wow, this is moving fast. I wonder if the rest of the Big 12 south will start the PAC-16 at the same time? If not, that's going to completely screw up our whole conference for the last year.
New OL Commitment?
I've been scouring all the Tech sports pages looking to find any updates about the new conference, when I happened to see that Rivals is showing we picked up a new OL. I'm not a paying member so I'm not sure who the newest recruit is, but I'm glad to see that it was at least for one of the positions we need guys for. I've checked all the other free sites to see if I could confirm who it is, but no names yet.
Brandon Carter playing for Tech again?
Okay, it's not the 6-6, face paint wearing, OL we all know and love, but I thought it was funny that we have apparently offered a receiver from Euless Trinity whose name happens to be Brandon Carter as well. The entry is towards the bottom of the article.
A little more on Harrell at the Brown's mini-camp
Nothing too earth shattering here, but since all other football news is slow...
Possible new recruit due to Prunty hire
New school in the mix for ESPNU 150 DL J.R. Ferguson
Four-star J.R. Ferguson (Frederick, Md./Hargrave) had previously narrowed his list to Miami-FL, Notre Dame, Florida State, LSU and Cal but now has one more program in the mix, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.
The Red Raiders join the party since the hiring of Ferguson's coach at Hargrave, Robert Prunty, has taken the job as the d-line coach on Tommy Tuberville's staff. "That's the twist right there," J.R. Ferguson Sr. said. "They've gotten in the mix late, but since they've hired coach Prunty, they're going after J.R. hard."
"Tonight, we're going to sit down and sort out all the categories we've determined are priorities for him. We're going to get things eliminated and organized tonight. The goal is to come into Wednesday in deciding on where he wants to go. It's the most grueling process, and he still has no clue."
It's a long shot, but maybe Tubs is on to something here!
Bennie Wylie's replacement - Joe Walker
No surprise, another Auburn guy. This might have been covered in the comments somewhere else, but I didn't see it under Bennie's leaving Fanshot or a couple of the other posts I looked under. If this is a re-post, please feel free to delete.
One thing is for sure, this guy has his work cut out for him.
Random Tech football pics
Just ran across this while browsing for news the other day. It's a thread with TONS of old Tech football pics that range from the 30's - all the way to current. There's currently 58 pages so it's not just a quick browse. I really enjoyed some of the old pics of the stadium on page 21 (you can see the old mini-golf course across from the stadium).
However, be warned that there are a couple of pics that are NSFW (not safe for work). While nothing is completely shown, they might not be the best thing to have up on your screen when your boss walks up. I had to skip a page or two and haven't been all the way through the pages, so you've been warned. I really wish they could have just stuck with great Tech football pics...
Javius Townsend De-commits
Looks like we just lost another recruit. This same info was posted in the comments of the Recruiting article, but it was a little hidden in with everything else.

Date: Jan 25, 2010
The talk was Oklahoma State and offensive line coach Joe Wickline wanted to add one more offensive lineman to the 2010 recruiting class. Mission accomplished as Javius Townsend of James Madison High School in Dallas called Monday afternoon and let us know he has changed his status, switching from Texas Texas to Oklahoma State.
The silver lining to this dark, dark cloud
Well, I know this has been stated many times over, but it bears repeating due to all the activity recently. THANK YOU SETH C for all of your hard work and dedication to this website. I love that they referenced your site on several stories (including ESPN) and that we've had several outsiders not only read, but join and post on our site. The attention your site has gained cannot be lauded on enough. I'm glad you're getting the attention you deserve.
I'm one of the people who can just sit back and reap the benefits of all your hard work. This site has become my defacto site for all things Tech. I'm thinking that if you EVER need any kind of help with anything (fundraising?) you'd have a boat load of people willing to help. Again (as if it can ever be said enough), thank you for all of your hours of hard work and dedication.
Thanks for keeping your GUNS UP through all of the muck.

Best article I've read
This guys completely nails it on the head. The final segment is what really wraps up the thing that has me so saddened. We've lost the one thing that made us different.
"This was about injured egos, and more than anything else, ignorance. Because while the backlash toward Leach is maybe understandable, the Texas Tech administration made the bigger mistake of misunderstanding Leach's success. It wasn't that they had a coach who'd produced ten winning seasons, but that they had Mike Leach. He didn't deliver Texas Tech to national prominence despite his strange style, but because of it.
College football fans cared about him -- and by extension Texas Tech -- because he was completely different than anyone we'd ever seen coaching before. Sure, his teams were successful, but not that successful. There are plenty of top 15 programs that nobody cares about. I'll watch Oklahoma State play Oklahoma, but otherwise, they're not on my radar. But Texas Tech? People will watch, solely because they know that Mike Leach and his offense will make things interesting. He had the people all across the country talking about Texas Tech.
And in the end, that's his job. It's not to win the Big 12 or win National Championships like Mack Brown or Bob Stoops. Those would be great, but from the administration's standpoint, the goal is to enhance the overall profile of the school. That's why they hired Bobby Knight after multiple instances of abusive behavior, the likes of which make Mike Leach's shed seem tame. But it wasn't Knight that got the whole country talking; it was this quirky, weird looking ex-lawyer that nobody really understood, but everyone loved.
Texas Tech stumbled onto a winning lottery ticket with Mike Leach. Now, they've chased him off because he wanted to get rich too. And yeah, I'm sure the Texas Tech administration thinks that their football team can win without him. But will anybody watch?"
ESPN article on Bront Bird
I didn't see this posted anywhere else in my search so please forgive me if it's a double-post. Article is from Tim Griffin so take it for what it's worth.
