My name is Tim Holland and I am the author of "Sports Talk Radio Is A Waste Of Time (And so is this Book)" and the owner of website Sportscommonsense.com. I have been involved with sports in some capacity since the age of ten. I have been a player, coach, official, writer and public address announcer. I was good enough to make my college baseball team as a walk on but decided that education was more important (actually my class schedule cut into practice and the coach gave me an ultimatum. I opted for study). I once tried out at an NFL free agent camp. Currently I am a high school football official in the state of Maryland.
I like sports at all levels, but do not like the direction that it is going. That's why I wrote my book and started my website. I think we as sports fans and media need to get back to what sport is all about. Exercise, having fun, teaching lifes lessons and bringing people together in a united front. I think that the business and celebrity of sport has gotten in the way of this. We worry so much about the money, the enetertainment and the off field happenings that we forget how much fun the games and competitions themselves really are.
In "Sports Talk Radio Is A Waste Of Time" I address many of the issues in sports past, present and future in a common sense way. I do this by using history and stories to validate my points. I did not write the book to say that I'm right and everyone else is wrong. It's more of a conversation starter to get to the bottom line as to why sports have become what they are.
I joined this site to speak to some of these issues and share them with other members. Hopefully, I can bring something to the site and learn from those of you on here as well. I am looking forward to spending time here on SB Nation.
