If Goodell was commish then...
How many games do you think Ray Ray should have been suspended for the obstruction case in the murder trial?
As a Steelers fan, I know Ray didn't murder anyone. But wasn't he found guilty of trying to cover it up.
So I ask you Ravens fans to put your money where your mouth is and give me a reasonable suspension for the face of YOUR franchise, hypothetically speaking to Goodell being the commish at the time.
A Steelers fan reading "The Blind Side"
Hello all. I come to this blog not to talk trash about the epic Steeler-Raven battles that will surely occur this year, but instead, to talk about the fantastic book I'm reading called "The Blind Side." I'm sure some of you have read this already as it is truly a great read. I go to school at the University of Tennessee and a lot of my buddies went to Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis that your newest offensive lineman Michael Oher went to.
"The Blind Side" is truly inspirational, and you Raven fans should be happy to have someone such as Michael Oher on your squad. (I wanted the Steelers to trade up and get him.) We can only hope the movie coming out will do this fantastic book justice.
While I am an Oher fan, I do hope James Harrison and Lamarr Woodley debacle him next year. Aside from that, I will be cheering for this young man for many years to come (his status as a Raven notwithstanding)
For those who haven't read it, GO BUY IT!!! you won't regret it.
One Fan's opinion of the 53 man active roster
QB (3)- Ben, Dixon, Batch. (Dixon ahead of Batch for gimmick stuff. Batch can play if Ben gets hurt.
RB ( 4)- FWP, Mendenhall, Moore, Redman
FB (1)- Carey Davis (groan all you want, he's not getting cut)
WR (5)- Hines, Holmes, Sweed, Wallace, McDonald
TE (3)- Heath, Spaeth, McHugh
OL (9)- Starks, Kemo, Hartwig, Stapleton, Colon, Essex, Foster, Urbik, Legursky
(If Stapleton comes back healthy, Essex goes back to being swing man. That's why no Capizzi.)
25 Offense
DL (7)- Keisel, Big Snack, Smith, Hoke, Hood, Kirschke, Eason
LB (8)- Harrison, Timmons, Farrior, Woodley, Fox, Woods, Frazier, Bailey
CB (6)- Ike, Gay, Deshea, Burnett, K. Lewis, Madison
S (4)- Troy, Clark, T. Carter, Mundy
25 Defense
ST-(3)- Reed, Sepulveda, Warren (sure would be nice if Legursky or AQ knew how to long snap. Nothing against Greg, but it's just kind of a waste of a roster spot, IMO.
3 ST's
8 on PS
Roy Lewis, Sonny Harris, AQ Shipley, Capizzi, Grisham, B Davis, Frank Summers, David Johnson
Cuts:
CB Ratliff, LB Schantz, NT Paxson, G Parquet, LB A. Harrison, RB Stefan Logan, LB Korte, DT Mclendon, WR Williams, WR Stephen Black, QB Mike Reilly, RB Justin Vincent, C/G Stepanovich, WR Dallas Baker, WR Martin Nance (Both you guys have had your chances), TE Dezmond Sherrod, I honestly think OT Tony Hills will and should be cut, K Piotr Czech, S Derrick Richardson.
There ya go. I was bored and that's what i think. Please feel free to let me know if you think i made any glaring omissions or additions.
GO STEELERS!!!
Ramon Foster will beat out Tony Hills
Now I go to the University of Tennessee and have been watching Foster play for 4 years. The O line he played RT and G on in 2007 gave up 4!!!! sacks the entire season to lead the country. (He had a broken thumb that whole season too. Can you even imagine fending off pass rushers with a broken thumb?) Then Tennessee changed O coordinators his senior year and had an abysmal season last year with a stagnant offense. The New o coordinator who shall remain unnamed tried to do weak side/strong side nonsense where the lineman would actually flip sides of the line during the game.
IT WAS AS STUPID AS IT SOUNDS. I firmly believe Foster would have been a 4th or 5th rd draft pick had it not been for the mess of a season Tenn had last year.
He will beat out Tony Hills because he has better technique, is more talented, plays stronger, and is a tougher player.
Overview per NFL.com
6'5" 328
Foster is a three-year starter who won Freshman All-SEC honors in 2005 after stepping in at left guard and right tackle due to injuries. He primarily started at right tackle the past three seasons, but he will be tried inside and outside at the next level to see where he fits best. Foster was named to the ESPN Mark May's 2007 "MayDay Team" after playing with a broken thumb throughout most of his junior season. Had an arm span of 34 1/2 inches and a hand span of 10 inches at the combine.
Analysis
Positives: Tall, massive prospect with long, strong arms and better initial and short-area quickness than you'd expect for his size. Can wall off tackles inside or get the outside shoulder of his man outside to create running lanes. Not overly quick getting down on the cut block, but his sheer mass makes him effective. It takes ends an extra second to get around his big body to the quarterback, and he's too strong to get bull rushed into the quarterback. Plays through the whistle, and will hit his man two or three times if necessary. Has adequate foot speed to get to linebackers if they are directly in his path. Vocal leader in the locker room and on the field.
Negatives: A bit larger in the middle than scouts like. Might need to move inside because although he has a fair kick-slide in pass protection, he does not have the lateral quickness to stay with the quick outside rush. Hands are not quick enough to reset if he doesn't latch on initially. Waist-bender who loses his balance too often when extending his arms and not moving his feet in pass protection and blocking at the second level. Lumbers in space and does not change directions quickly. Poor recovery speed against twists and quick moves.

Noteworthy observations from one Steeler fan
1. Ziggy- DE/DT
The thing that stands out the most to me about Ziggy is his superior ability to use to his hands when shedding blocks. He also seems to have excellent field awareness as well as a nose for where the play is headed. Important assets to possess as the position switch will be no walk in the park.
While I don't think we'll see that much of Ziggy in our base 3-4 this year, I do think we'll see quite a bit of him when we go into our base Nickel. (2-4-5) I loved when we used this last year b/c it allows harrison and woodley to be right up on the line of scrimmage leaving little doubt as to what they're about to do. Imagine this when its 3rd and 8:
Woodley Smith Ziggy Harrison
Farrior Timmons
Gay Deshea Ike
Troy Slobberknocker (resign the man!!!!... after heath)
I don't care who the QB is; he might crap his pants.
3a. Urbik- RG/T???
This guy clearly loves throwing his weight around. Seems to be quick off the snap which should help neutralize his OK athleticism. Clears the hole well and turns his defender away from the gap thus showing his back a large alley to run through. Please BEAT OUT Stapleton!!!
3b. M. Wallace- WR/KR
We all this guy's biggest asset: SPEED, SPEED, and more SPEED. Day 1 KR and should get into the mix as far as the long ball is concerned. Shows excellent vision (Maybe he can teach FWP how to anticipate the hole before it develops. I like Willie, but good god man get your eyes checked.) Back to Wallace, shows good body control and the ability to adjust to the ball in the air which is essential.
3c. K. Lewis- CB
Well Lebeau sure loves his big physical corners and he sure as hell got one. I honestly feel like this guy could excel in man or zone schemes. He even shows the range to play safety if we were ever in a pinch. Breaks well on the ball when its in the air and has long arms that he can knock down passes with. Ike will be able to teach him a lot and keep the tradition of big physical CB's alive and well in the Burgh for many years.
5. Burnett- CB/PR
I've noticed for some time that Steeler Nation has longed for the days when we had a ball hawking CB (i.e. Rod Woodson) Well ladies and gents, meet Joe Burnett. This guy will absolutely excel in our zone scheme and with excellent safety play from Troy and Clark over the top, Joe will be able to give his receivers a cushion and then be able to break on the ball and make plays. When Tomlin was in Tampa he loved his ball hawks; I think he has found his first one here. He has very fluid hips and seems to able to read QB's eyes very well. He can also set the edge and force the run back inside.16 career INT's is all I need to hear. And his skills as a PR... Wow!!!
5. Frank the Tank- HB/FB/Short yardage guy
He runs a 4.55 forty and he's how big? 5'10" 242. O, he never fumbled in college, evah? Wow. Basically this guy seems like a faster and shiftier version of Fuamatu'Maafala (sp?) along with great hands out of the backfield. The only thing i'm really curious about is how would he do in pass protection? If he's as good of a pass catcher as we're told whats to stop Arians from putting him in as a 3rd down back? I think it'd be awesome if we scheme our pass protection around the teams we're playing (Mewelde in there against faster more agile pass rushers or Tank in there protecting against bull rushers coming up the middle.) This is pure speculation on my part as I have no idea if he can play in the shotgun role. It would just be cool if he could. Positional flexibility that Tomlin loves. Who knows?
6. Sonny Harris- DT/ 3-4 DE
While I think that he is too tall to play the NT in our scheme, with the right teaching, he could develop into A. Smith's replacement. Of all of our picks, this guy seems like the biggest project as he just comes across as Raw and underdeveloped. He is mammoth in size and did show SOME flashes of brilliance in college. Only a 1 year starter which does raise cause for concern but hell it's only a 6th RD pick. Just hope this isn't Ryan McBean 2.
7a. AQ Shipley C
I don't even care if this guy doesn't pan out b/c we only used a 7th round pick on him. (I find it funny that we got him through the Tampa trade for Mahan.) If it works out, that's great. If not, I won't be heart broken. I mean the guy won the Rimington award and we got him in the 7th round. The sheer value right there is ridiculous.
David Johnson TE/HB
7b. I'm not gonna sit here and act like I know much at all about this guy. But if he can show some promise, I think he can really light a fire under Matt Spaeth. I mean c'mon dude, please learn how to block. we all know you can catch just block somebody.
what's this about bulluck's comments ab chris johnson's hands
i'm not a titans fan but my buddy who is said that Bulluck was quoted as saying that chris johnson has the worst hands he's ever seen. Honest to god, after making a fool out of himself after the playoff loss (see throwing metal barriers in tunnel) is he really going to get this bitter and negative b/c the titans probably won't resign him? (and they shouldn't b/c mcgrath is the future)
Michael Vick looks like one of the bad guys in Dark Knight
Anyone? anyone agree? when you see the vids on ESPN of him walking in and out of the courthouse wearing that ridiculous blue pinstripped suit, he looks like one of those black organized crime dudes that the joker meets with.
he is so ridiculous. what a joke!!!
