An avid fan of golf with a passion for the game and it's rich history. I love to play, I love to watch, and I love a good golf related discussion. Although I'm a fan of all PGA players, I have a deeper appreciation for the true legends of golf, including the greatTiger Woods.
a fan of
Alabama Crimson Tide

Some Random Thoughts
1. Tiger said he'd be ready for the President's Cup. He was indeed ready looking very much like the Tiger of old. Is this an indication of things to come? Maybe, maybe not, but for me it was great seeing him play well under pressure again.
3. I'm glad Tiger took the high road with the Steve Williams thing.
2. Greg Norman needs to talk less. His statement of "they want to cut out the hearts of the Americans and hand it to them on the 18th green" was over the top; this wasn't a football game. It's also probably not smart or classy to criticize the opposing captain's picks.
3. Jim Furyk looked terrific, again.
4. Phil is going to make a good team captain one day.
5. Alabama is back in the National Championship hunt. Roll Tide!
Hey Easing
Do you still believe this?
"Some players have no chance, until they embrace links golf as it should be. Mickleson never has. He has more chance of playing at my club than winning the Open…none at all". I think at this point we can safely say he's at least got a chance, playing brilliantly so far.
Sorry had to take a poke...lol Crazy game this is, you just never know what can happen.
Go Phil!
Count me as a fan
I'm really happy for Rory. I'm really happy for golf. This is really the reason why I watch; to see pure excellence in action. I used to say that when Tiger plays as well as he's capable nobody else is even close. I won't say that anymore. Rory filled his promise in a huge way. His game is as good as it gets and I have a feeling he's just getting started. I just hope Tiger can find enough game to go head to head with him a few times; that would be fantastic! Well done Rory, amazing stuff!!
A half way interesting story
OK, so I was on a business trip Thursday in the Chicago area and I was driving to a colleague's house to drop them off. On the way there we were involved in a car accident; another driver rear ended us but fortunately we were unharmed. As we're sitting there making small talk and waiting on the cop to do his thing I happened to look to my right and noticed what appeared to be a fenced in golf course. So I ask my colleague what golf course that is, and he replies "oh that's Medina". Anyway, I find it just a little ironic that Tiger's #1 fan (me) had a car "crash" at the site of two of his 14 major championships, just a little over a year after Tiger's life "crashed". Is somebody trying to tell me something? Weird....lol
The Tiger Positives 2010
I know you've all been anxiously awaiting another installment of the hugely popular "Tiger Positives", so in the spirit of friendly debate here is my list for the season. I'm aware most of you are only interested in negatives about Tiger, but there are many positives if you're looking for them.Tiger experienced a VERY difficult year, (self imposed of course) with many challenges and significant life changes. Despite it all, he's weathered the storm as well as anybody could; the worst is behind him. As I see it, he's still standing tall and coming out the other side a stronger and wiser person.
1. Tiger's on course behavior was distinctly improved this year. There were a few minor incidents but all in all it was 500% better than we've seen in the past.
2. Ending his relationship with swing coach Hank Haney was in my view a very positive move. I think the work he's doing with Foley is heading in a good direction and expect to see some good things in 2011.
3. Getting the divorce behind him. The end of a marriage is always a very sad occasion but considering what's taken place, I see this as a positive for both Tiger and Elin. Repairing the damage Tiger caused was simply too much for any relationship and it's time to move on. Getting to closure is better for the long term. Hopefully Tiger learned some important lessons; I believe he did.
4. Tiger's record in the majors was very respectable. He contended in two, and finished second only to Phil in cumulative scoring.
5. Tiger's game is improving and he's showing very positive signs. Yes, still a long road ahead, but it's plain to see he's on a good path.
6. In some ways it was nice to see Tiger struggle. It served as a good reminder of how brilliant his career is. It showed that what he's been able to do is not easy and lead me to an even deeper appreciation for how hard it is to sustain that kind of success in golf. It's rare and fickle. The game is full of new stars and great talent, but how many of them will see the success Tiger has? Will anyone be able to win like Tiger?
7. Much to the disappointment of many, Tiger still has a large and supportive fan base.
8. Only 1 missed cut. Considering his level of play this year, that's not too shabby.
9. The Tiger Woods Learning Center is still expanding and continuing the great work without missing a beat.
10. Tiger finished the season with a very good Ryder Cup performance which included spectacular play in his singles match. He easily justified his captain's pick and then some.Tiger is now 9-1 in his last two team competitions. Pretty good in my book.
Why the game needs Tiger
Perhaps a better title would be why the game needs players like Tiger, but I'll just stick with this. I don't remember who exactly said it, but a poster once made the comment that "it doesn't matter who hits the shots, I just want to see good golf". We've seen many similar such comments and the desire to define a "real golf fan" separately from a "Tiger fan" and I suppose it's true that people watch the sport for a variety of different reasons and with different perspectives. But at the end of the day, we're all "golf fans", we just see things differently which is the way it should be.
I believe it most certainly does matter who hits the shots. One of the most compelling reasons we watch sports is to pull for a favorite; we form emotional attachments and we love it when our team wins. This is true for all sports. I love college football and will watch any game I can find, but I most certainly watch with significantly higher interests and enjoyment when my Crimson Tide is playing, (especially if they're winning). Without these emotional attachments, watching sports would not be nearly as much fun. It's human nature to form such attachments, and even though some don't want to admit it, we all have them. It's even fun to pull against the teams or individuals we don't like, it adds interest and fun to the game. Tiger is just such a figure, millions love him and many don't, and that makes him very important to everyone who watches golf or covers golf.
My most compelling and significant golf memory was watching the 86 Masters and what Jack did on the back nine. It was magical; I still get goose bumps watching the re-plays on TGC. Now let's say that was a little known player making that incredible run, it would have been fun to watch and truly a great win, but it would NOT have been the same. What made the memory something that is burned into my soul forever is the fact it was Jack hitting the shots and making the putts. From a fan perspective IT MATTERS WHO HITS THE SHOTS, no way around it.
It is true that golf would survive just fine with or without Tiger and sooner or later it will have to. What we need to remember, is that players as special as Tiger are very rare in this sport, VERY RARE. That matters. Golf needs stars and it needs more players to come along like Tiger. The game is just plain better with him, it's better for all of us. So whether you like him, hate him, or couldn't care less, I think it's important to understand this.
The Positives About Tiger at the Open
Since mostly what we hear about Tiger these days is negative, and Stub has appointed me the resident leader of the Tiger Fan Club, I feel it is my duty to document some positives from the week and there were indeed several. Many of you will continue to look for and only acknowledge anything negative, so here we go, drum roll please.
1. Tiger had another top 5 finish in a major. Yes the Tiger of a few year back would have probably won easily Sunday but he's showing he can still hang with the game's top players despite all of the injuries and turmoil in his personal life. Clearly he's NOT "done" as many have suggested or hoped for.
2. Tiger did show signs of getting his game back in form tying the low round of the week with a Saturday 66 capping the day with a sensational shot to the 18th green. That's good news heading into the British Open where I feel he'll have a good chance to do well.
3. Tiger's on course behavior was again very good. No Fbombs, and no club throwing. Considering some of the shots he hit this week, it's pretty clear he's working on his behavior and has demonstrated considerable progress.
4. In my estimation he played just as well as the unofficial number one player in the world (Phil). Not just in terms of shooting the same score, but I would say they played very close to the same level this week. That's the first time in a while he's played as well as Phil, so another sign he's on the way back.
5. Probably the thing I enjoyed most this week was the way the gallery accepted and cheered for Tiger. He electrified the crowds on Saturday and it was obvious, despite what some have predicted, Tiger still has MANY supporters and fans that pull for him and want him to do well. In my unofficial estimation the supporters still far outweigh the detractors. It was great to see!
New equipment question for the panel
Once again I find myself in the market for new equipment. Yes, I know it's much more about the Indian than the bow and arrow, but I just can't help myself and I'm always looking for something just a bit better. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has experience with TaylorMade's R9 and the adjustable face technology or as they call it "flight control technology"? I may be getting new irons as well. I'm going to a Demo Day next weekend and will be trying all of the latest stuff, but I would very much appreciate any feedback or opinions.
Something funny
I wanted to share this. OK, so I was at a junior golf clinic this afternoon with my 6 year old and the instructor used Tiger Woods to make a point. "Don't worry about making mistakes, even Tiger Woods doesn't do everything right on the golf course" he says. Just then in perfect comedic timing, a little boy probably no more then 7 years old said " he doesn't do everything right in life either". The adults all busted out in laughter. Yea you probably had to be there, but trust me it was really quite funny.
Curiosity killed the Cat?
Please pardon me, but I'm about to get philosophical for a bit. Why do so many feel like that have some God given right to know all the details of Tiger's private life? Or anybody's for that matter? Yes humans are curious by nature and I can see how that leads us to "want" to know, but this thing where people are demanding to know, I simply don't understand. I believe strongly it's wrong on many levels.
Perhaps it will be this public curiosity and intrusive media that leads Tiger to leave the game? Scary thought, but not sure I'd put up with it for very long.
Many will say, we have a right to know his business because he makes millions from the fans who watch and buy the products he endorses, but this is simply not true. I work for a major corporation and I can can promise you nearly every person who is reading this and millions around the world purchase products on a regular basis that my company produces. So in a round about way your all paying my salary as well. So does that give you the right to know my personal business? Hardly.
Something is wrong with our society. Why do so many care so much what other people do or don't do? Why don't we just insist on putting up cameras in Tiger's home so we can all watch 24/7? We may as well if we're going to continue going down this road.
Whatever happened is indeed a private matter and it should only concern the Woods family. I say worry about your own family, your own marriage, and your own interests, and leave Tiger to do the same.
Another TMZ tidbit.......
Much of the early frenzy of this story was fueled by a “report” from TMZ that a “friend” had visited the mansion and Tiger gave up all the dirt. And another “report” indicated he told a friend on the phone he needed to buy a Kobe Special (house on a finger) for Elin. This is at best highly suspect. We all know Tiger’s circle of friends has been untouchable when it comes to giving up any kind of relevant information about TW. What, does TMZ have a wire tap in Tiger’s home? How would they have got this information? No, unfortunately I can’t do what Ryan has done and prove this to be factually false, but it’s VERY unlikely any of Tiger’s friends talked to anybody at TMZ. Now with that said let me just add a few thoughts. First I agree it is likely that something happened between him and Elin before the accident, but please people let’s not get our “facts” from sources such as TMZ. For those who know me, I make no secret of being a big fan of TW and this incident will not change that at all. I insist that he’s acting well within his rights and I fully support his right to privacy and trying to protect his family from this absurd witch hunt. Leave his family alone to deal with whatever happened privately, it’s none of our business!
