Danny Hope is a real man, doesn't use Twitter
This is why I like Coach Hope. He is basically Ron Swanson.
Robbie the Barbarian
Between the time of Keady’s empire and the rise of the son of Hammons, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this age, Robbie was born, destined to bear the jeweled crown of the NCAA upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of his high adventures.

Kevin Ballinger can't get no respect
I demand an explanation for why the Boilermaker's finest mustache was not not considered for this prestigious award.
Who could be Purdue's coach?
I have seen a lot of talk on here about who will be roaming the Purdue sidelines next year. After the jump, check out my list of possible head coaching candidates were Purdue to make a move after this season.
(Note: I do not wish any ill will towards Coach Hope. If he is able to salvage this season then I say bring him on back. This article is merely a research oriented piece to spark discussion on candidates Purdue would be willing to consider.)
Expansion Rumors Heat Up Again
Apparently one summer wasn’t enough to wrap up "Expansion-palooza." Recent comments made by both school officials and current Texas governor (and former Aggie) Rick Perry have led many to believe that there may be some actual truth in rumors that Texas A&M is looking to take its ball and play elsewhere.
Word on the playground is that officials at A&M are not pleased with Texas and its new Texas TV deal and are talking to the SEC about a possible move. Now granted this could all be smoke and mirrors by A&M to try and get the Longhorns and ESPN to change their tune about exactly what will air on the Longhorn TV network (hint: it involves teenage boys). But if there is any truth to it then there may be far reaching consequences for all of college football. Let us not forget last summer that we played Expansion Missile Crisis with the Pac-10 for a while. All it took for super conferences to become a reality last summer was for either Texas to jump to the Pac-10 or for the Big Ten to convince Notre Dame that Texas was going to and that they needed to sign up now to save themselves.
Far more interesting to me is the other half of these rumors that Missouri is actually trying to secure passage into the SEC as well. If this is true then the Big 12’s goose is cooked and we can start to look for its pieces being sold off. The question is what happens to the rest of the conferences? I have come up with a few scenarios here and I look forward to my fellow Boilermaker’s views on the situation.
Purdue has second worst student section according to "science."
A recent study done by some internet dweller has crowned Minnesota the best student section the Big 10 and us the second worst. Sounds dubious to say the least...
Kerrigan a Redskin
I am glad he went in the 1st, but the Redskins do not seem to be a healthy environment for a new player. Hopefully I am wrong. Their fans seem to be rather split on the pick too. Be sure to go let them know they have picked up a great kid in Kerrigan!
Best of luck Ryan!
Former Purdue assistant finding success in Missouri
Cuonzo is taking his team right to the top it would seem. It may not be a popular subject but if Matty takes the escape clause in his contract could we be seeing Cuonzo as head coach in the future? Just a random thought.
Hammer & Rails hate week, bathe in some Haterade
It’s hate week here at Hammer & Rails and I for one have saved a lot of bile and froth for this occasion. I saw this idea over at BHGP and I thought it would be cool to import to our community. I am going to write up my hate list of Big Ten teams and then everyone in the comments can give their own version, or tell me why I am an idiot.
Boilermakers in the NFL
I thought it would be cool to do an update on the Boilermakers (er… Makers, all) in the NFL.
Painter's Contract
Interesting news to say the least. I agree it's likely just a negotiating tool but still newsworthy.
Hang on to your hats folks....
If this is indeed true then prepare for apocalyptic scenarios regarding the NCAA landscape. If it happens it will be pretty interesting to see the Big Ten's next move.
Morgan Burke Talks to the A-Train
The AD has been in talks with Mike Alstott to possibly join Purdue's coaching staff as a running backs coach. "It would be an honor to join my alma mater as they move towards recapturing the Big Ten title." says Altsott
The Immortal Chris Kramer
Recent archeological evidence has surfaced that shows Chris Kramer has been lying to us all. He is not a 21 year old senior from Huntington, Indiana but is in fact an immortal human being who has helped mere mortals achieve astounding success. The researchers who discovered this have compiled the following list to show people why Chris Kramer is a mixture of several different kinds of awesome.
Yes, they are in fact that big folks

A Boilermaker's perspective on expansion
It seems like so many people are talking about the Big Ten going from eleven teams to twelve lately. The popular conception sees us expanding to reach into the New York market or anywhere else that would increase the Big Ten Network's footprint. There are a lot of team names being bandied about for our potential newest member. There is even a section dedicated to the Big Ten's Wikipedia page about our look for a new school. The names mentioned on there include:
- Notre Dame
- UConn
- Rutgers
- Syracuse
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- Pitt
- West Virginia
- Iowa State
- Maryland
- Kentucky
- Louisville
Other names that have been tossed out there from sites such as The Rivalry Esq. include
- Boise State
- TCU
- Utah
- Air Force
- Cincinnati
- Central Michigan

What's the deal with the media?
What does our team have to do to be impressive? Jason Cole repeatedly rattles off impressive stats about the Colts but dismisses them as mere trivia. He points out how many times we have come from behind to win but says it's meaningless. When the Pats, the Saints, or Vikings do this they are "gutty", "gritty", or "play with heart." When it's us, it must be luck. What's the deal with that?
