Last season we had a lot of injuries, but they came early so we had time to recoup

Our team became mentally tougher last year and that will carry over to this year

We've had some of our best signings late in the past - we're still looking at the pitching market.
We won't go crazy but still looking.

Diamondbacks signing LaRoche was a good move. No NL West club took a giant step forward. We have as good of chance as anyone winning it

What level will Tulo get to? Tulo has high expectations for himself. This kid has matured so much since we brought him up from AA. Sky is the limit for Tulo. I was fortunate to be around Cal Ripken early in my career; Tulo has a lot of the same characteristics - valuing team over individual accomplishments.

How avoid 2010 letdown like in 2008? We learned a lot. One mistake - I took a step off the gas pedal thinking we had it. We didn't. We had a very fractured team in 2008. Players learned a lot from 2007 to 2008. From day 1 of spring training this year it will be as if we didn't earn anything.

Jeff Francis? It's the best physically he has looked in 3 years. I thought his delivery had started to fall apart - he was turning into a changing speeds pitcher. He's throwing hard again - has to catch up to the speed at the major league level again.

Buchholz? Healthy now, but we are being careful. Should be back by June. Corpas is healthy but put on too much weight and didn't pitch well in the Dominican.

Ian Stewart, Iannetta - Iannetta had a great year in 2008. Lots of strikeouts last year. We gave him a 3 year contract hopefully to get him to relax.

Stewart - has to mature, spent time with Don Baylor for 10 days this winter. Stewart changed his approach to many times last year. He has to cut down on his strikeouts. Our entire team has to cut down on strikeouts.

Hawpe? I believe in him - he gets it. During bad stretch he didn't make any excuses. Key to him is rest and athleticism. With our depth of outfield we should get him more rest.

Helton? He's very realistic - will rest more. With Jason Giambi here Todd is more comfortable to sit out a game.
