I am a former sportswriter for the Clearwater (FL) Sun, St. Petersburg (FL) Times and Anderson (SC) Independent-Mail. I still write sports part-time for the Independent and Hartwell (GA) Sun and write many feature stories for magazines in my area -- not always of the sports variety.
I retired from teaching five years ago and currently substitute teach in elementary, middle and high schools in Hart County, the home of Lake Hartwell, a beautiful lake on the GA/SC border.
I am married to a beautiful lady I met on match.com, have two daughters in Clearwater and one grandson.

Rays are for real!
Right now...this very moment...I want everyone, including the so-called "baseball analysts" to cut out the talk about the Red Sox having more experience. Baseball playoffs are much more than experience. Guts, fearless, determined, audacity, confidence, spunk, grit, heart, come to mind. Add some well-placed luck and Joe Maddon, the 2008 Major League Manager of the Year and you have the ingredients for some exciting baseball.
Now remember, the less experienced Rays held off a Red Sox charge at the end of the regular season. They beat Boston head-to-head 10 of 18 games.
Get ready for some different names in the headlines…Crawford, Longoria, Iwamura, Upton, Garza, Kazmir, Shields, Sonnanstine, Howell.
Big-payroll franchises eat your hearts out. Tampa Bay is the real deal.
Go, Rays!
(And a note for Rays’owners: Leave the team at Tropicana Field. The boys know the rafters, girders, shadows and glare pretty well).
