Randolph vs. KG -- The early days

This may seem like a ridiculous post on the surface, but after looking through Randolph's rookie photo shoot display, and trying to compare his body to an NBA player, I came up with Kevin Garnett.

Garnett's rookie year card:

via www.checkoutmycards.com

What catches my eyes the most are his shoulders, and arms...(uhh, no homo?) KG is a physical specimen no doubt, in the realm of a LeBron James and a Dwight Howard. It remains to be seen whether or not our boy Tony lives up to such a high standard. HOWEVER, keep in mind Randolph is roughly the same age now that KG was upon entering the league. Thus, allowing for this comparison to have at least a SHRED of validity as a sample. Observe Randolph's rookie shot:

via i144.photobucket.com

In my opinion, I think (and pray) that KG is a decent mold to compare Anthony's body to. We'll see how he turns out and if his frame can stand the rigors of multiple NBA seasons, and how much weight he can pack on to himself. But if he ends up resembling KG's sinewy strength, I will be ecstatic.

Forgive me if this seems like a stretch, unnecessary, irrelevant, etc. I'm bored @ work and need something to discuss. Your thoughts?

Anybody trying to watch this? I'm looking for a live boxscore or something, can't find one. Overall, this year's Summer League has been a much more positive one than last. Marco has shown ups and downs along the way, but I think his level of play was markedly higher than last year's game 1 showcase. Randolph has obviously exceeded expectations, which IMO were pretty low heading into the League. We got a glimpse of Hendrix's toughness and rebounding ability and CJ showed he can be a thief (averaging a little over 3 spg in Vegas) and a scorer...unfortunately he didn't distribute the rock as much as I would have liked. We had a nice player emerge from obscurity in Anthony Morrow. All good stuff. Anyways, all I want to do is kill 90 minutes at work watching/viciously refreshing our last game of the Summer League. Help a brotha out!

What up Warrior peoples. Just wanted to share with everyone that I met Marco down on Union St. this past weekend while working the door at a bar/restaurant for the Union Street fair. #18 walked by very casually rocking his chic Italian-euro steez. My colleague at the door knew him (and a few other Warriors) because they frequent another club he works at. So he convinced Marco to come and check out our establishment. He rolled in with a few friends straight out of Italy that were in town visiting. He was SUPER chill, gave me a lil fist pound and half-hug on the way in and even had the manners to say goodbye to me on his way out. I look forward to him getting some more PT next season and dropping dagger J's on our opposition.

Figured this was worth a fan post, cheers everybody.

Hey everyone I saw this on Dime's website and thought it was worth linking to:

With all the presidential debates going on, Reebok decided to create a campaign of its own for their boy Baron Davis, trying to get Boom Dizzle some All-Star votes. Baron's 21.9 points and 8 assists per game is definitely All-Star worthy, but being in the Western Conference with the likes of Kobe, Chris Paul, T-Mac, Steve Nash, Deron Williams and so many other guys, Baron isn't a lock to be there in `Nawlins.

Click this link here to see the pics and the rest of the article.

The t-shirt design is fresh. Tony where you at?! BD IN '08!

Maybe I'm sippin' the kool aid, but I saw a lot of promise out of (almost) everyone on the floor. I completely agree with Atma Brother One's recap on a couple of accounts, Pat Burke can take a long walk off a short pier in Hawaii, sorry Pat..I'm sure you're fun in the locker room or whatever, but uhhh, hoisting a 3 with 10 seconds left and forcing T-Hud to pull a game winner out of his bag of tricks is just not cool. And Tierre(?) Brown cannot guard a wet paper bag, or Sasha Vujacic...which is essentially the same thing. Cut both these guys, QUICK.

On to the good, I'm not going to bother talking about our starters b/c they looked polished and nice (sans Jax's patented and dangerous high dribble and Harrington STILL having problems finishing):

-I loved what I saw from Belinelli, he made some nice steals both in the open court and in half court sets, he clearly had no problems picking up the dig and rip method preached by Nellie, obviously the kid can shoot, I was a little surprised to see him throw up off-balance fading jumpers even when he was wide open, he seemed to do that from mid range only and made sure he straightened out and jumped up high from deep. His court vision is sick, he made several great dishes, including a beautiful interior touch pass to Burke for an easy lay-in. I expect, sporadic but, big production out of him.

-Croshere looked like a nice fit on the team. I don't see him as a rotation guy but on a night when things aren't going right for our bigs (Harrington, Biedrins, Barnes or Biedrins' backup TBD) I think Nellie can put him on the floor and expect defense, rebounding, a reliable deep ball and solid FT%. I look forward to having him on board, I could be eating my words in 2 months...but I liked what I saw last night.

-O'Bryant has a pulse! I was shocked, really...completely SHOCKED, by this kid. Yes, one game, yes preseason. But he wasn't going up against any NBDL scrubs, Bynum and Mihm are legit NBA centers, they're not stars...no, but they are talented nonetheless. It was very refreshing to see POB do SOMETHING on the court. Let me put it this way, if he had gone out there and looked lost and shell-shocked as usual, I'd say he's done...cooked, only a matter of time until they cut him. But he made his presence known, he looked like he wanted to get after it, maybe he's finally hung up the apron and put down the spatula and decided to play some b-ball...we'll see.

-Hudson is BALLLLLIN'. Dude can't rap but apparently he can still play some basketball, he was a little out of control at times, but he also always seemed to pick his spots and be effective in his shot selection. The few times he drove to the basket he either converted a layup or kicked it out for an open look. He is money from the FT line and can still shoot it from deep, I'm not sure how many minutes he'll see but I won't be complaining when he's got the rock in his hands.

Couple negatives:

Barnes played like crap, that was one of his worst performances and it worries me to see him go back to 'do too much' mode. When he first got on with the team he would have games where you could tell he was reaching beyond his abilities, and it normally resulted in unforced TO's and rushed jumpshots (which we saw a LOT of last night), I'm hoping Nellie can reel him in and keep him within his skill set, he's a captain now, he's got to set the example and be a rock on this team, not a concern.

Pietrus...ugh, Pietrus. Please ship this guy out ASAP. I'm just sick of him, more of the same, lost on D, fouls...bricked shots, wild drives, get on the phones Mullin, I'm through with Air France.

Well that's my take, what'd you guys think? Agree, disagree, wanna fight about it? Discuss!

Alright, I got this game last week and I'm absolutely loving it. I already finished my first season, I got the Warriors into the playoffs with the 4th seed, we're matched up against the Seattle Supersonics, who somehow managed to trade for Kevin Martin and are now actually kind of stacked for a 5th seed.

Anyways...I've played online once so far (1-0 BABY UNSTOPPABLE WHAT!) but would love to play some GSoM'ers.

My PS3 handle is henry_winkler and my NBA 2K8 handle is allday28.

Anyone have the game on PS3 and want to do battle?

BTW: My dubs stumbled into the playoffs with a string of injuries, plantar fascitis for Barnes, dislocated finger for Marco, broken finger for Jackson, seperated shoulder for Baron...let's hope life does NOT imitate art ;(

GSoM faithful,

Some friends and I started a blog [http://livelifeandparty.blogspot.com/2007/08/looking-ahead-to-my-favorite-time-of.html] featuring talk about everything and anything that interests us. Lots of sports talk about the Warriors and 49ers to come.

I just completed a lengthy post about the Warriors chances of making the playoffs next year, my predictions for the standings at the end of next season and a breakdown of what every team in the Western Conference has done this offseason (except for the Dubs, b/c I think everyone and their mother on this site knows what they've done).

Here's a snippet:

Dallas Mavericks: The Warriors showed last season that they are a match-up killer for this team. Their season-series sweep was no fluke, and we all saw what happened in the playoffs. To shore up their defensive weaknesses the Mavs went out and signed...Eddie Jones? He doesn't seem like the answer to all their problems but he did come on the cheap. Other than Jones Cuban extended Jose Juan Barrea, who would absolutely KILL it if the NBA were a 6 ft and under league, and also brought back Jerry Stackhouse and Devean George. Stack's an assassin, and even at his age and with those knees I like bringing him back as an offensive weapon off the bench. George is an 8-year NBA veteran, has three championship rings and still manages to look lost to me out on the court.

It's a lengthy post, but read through it, and if you dig our blog come back b/c we'll be updating it often.

Thanks guys, and feel free to comment here or on the site with your thoughts.

Like all the way to the 707 SON. Matt Barnes will be speaking at my former college Humboldt State University this summer for their youth basketball camp (for 2nd to 12th graders). He's done it a few years in a row, and even though he blew up this year, opted to return...

Arcata (where HSU is located) is a tiny basketball-crazed town, and I can say for certain that they are thrilled to have a big-time (to them and us at least) bay area player like Barnes come and visit their quaint and funky town. You can read the article in its entirety here on the Lumberjacks' (yes we're called the Lumberjacks!) website: http://hsujacks.com/mbasketball/index.html

For those that don't know, HSU is a solid D-II basketball school. We're not producing any NBA players, but one of our players did tryout for the Phoenix Suns, Austin Nichols...he's mentioned in the article.

Anyways, go dubs, go 'jacks, go Barnes!
