Indians sign RHP Greg Aquino

Perhaps a change of scenery is just what he needs to become a quality relief pitcher.

Last season played out much like 2007 though, with most of the season spent in Triple-A, and a handful of innings in the majors. Aquino didn't show his groundball inducing skills last season, but encouragingly did get a good percentage of swinging strikes in Norfolk, 14.3%. One of Mark Shapiro's weaknesses has been bullpen building, not alliteration, so if nothing else, this is a nice depth signing for 'Bus. Best case he turns in 20-25 innings of league average work in response to an injury."

I am sure this is a rather unusual FanPost, but here it goes. My mother is turning 70 on the Sept. 29th and I am taking here to see the Indians this weekend as part of her birthday celebration. She has been an Indians fan since 1946 (remembers listening to the games with her father). I am having her name posted on the scoreboard during the last home game on Sunday, but I would like to do a little more. I do know that she is a huge Tom Hamilton fan since the day when he teamed up with Herb Score. I was hoping to zip him an email to see if I can get her name mentioned on the radio or perhaps an autographed photo sent to her house (being realistic since meeting him would be a quite a reach). Unfortunately, after a quick search on the internet I haven't discovered a way to make this happen. Any info on how to do this (if it is possible at this late date) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

Westbrook – Tommy John Surgery?

Listening to WTAM this morning...they reported that Jake is headed to LA for a visit with Dr. Lewis Yokum to get a second opinion. Tommy John surgery was mentioned in the report since Yokum is the guru of this kind of surgery. All of this is speculation right now, but it certainly isn't sounding good. Our pitching depth is certainly being tested this year...any other team would be dead in the water with the amount of injuries that we have endured so far. Let's hope Sowers can step into the Indians rotation and continue pitching like he has been in AAA.

The Tribe has made their big move for the off-season....they just signed Jorge Julio. Yes that's right, THE Jorge Julio.

In all seriousness, another quality bullpen arm is always a welcome addition...a team can never have enough.

Swisher Traded to White Sox

The Oakland A's traded outfielder Nick Swisher to the Chicago White Sox for left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez, right-handed pitcher Fautino De Los Santos and outfielder Ryan Sweeney.

Based on potential, the White Sox gave up an awful lot to get Swisher. It will be interesting to see how this trade is viewed a few years down the road.

The great thing about all of those disappointments (listed in the poll) this year...we are in first place!

If we would have been told before the season started of Barfield's low power and BA, Hafner's decline, Cabrera's ineffectiveness, Dellucci's non-existance, Lee's collapse and Westbrook's lost half-season...would anyone really have believed that we could be in first place? I am truly thankful for all of the surprises that we have had this year to balance all of the negatives. Where would we be without our prospects stepping up this year?

Although not the biggest Wedge fan, I do appreciate the fact that he is willing to explore all the options (although sometimes he is slow to react to the problems at hand). I am certainly looking forward to seeing how the team reacts to this tonight.

Starting for Buffalo that is. All of rumors seem to be much ado about nothing. Perhaps a trade fell through at the last minute or something will still take place today (assuming Cabrera was put on waivers Monday). Considering the price the Brewers paid in their trade, I can certainly see Shapiro passing on any potential trades this year.

Ichiro Signs for $100 Million

If I have to hear about Ichiro signing for $100m one more time, I'll have to punch myself in the face.

Now Seattle will have 100 million reasons why they won't make the playoffs in the next five years...unless, of course, they are becoming the Yankees of the west coast. We all see how well unlimited spending works for them.

Shane Victorino?

Thinking about trade possibilities that could help us and I offer: Shane Victorino...switch hitting outfielder for the Phillies.

I admit I haven't scene him play in person, but I do like the speed and switch hitting ability. Seems like he has some pop in his bat (10HR) and can certainly steal some bases. I am not sure how much value he has to the Phillies, but perhaps they would be interested in a starting pitcher (Stanford) and another young outfielder (Gutierrez) or some other combination of players. I would love to see Griffey, Dunn or another big power bat instead, but I just don't see the FO making that type of move. It would cost way too much talent.
