So glad we won't have to see him in the NL Central for at least the next 2 years, maybe 3. $14 Mil for 2 years and a 3rd mutual option @ $9 MIL.

Cubs Hire Maddux as GM Assistant

I just heard Bruce Levine on ESPN 1000 Radio say the Cubs will be hiring Greg Maddux as an assitant to Jim Hendry beginning this season. He will be working with players during Spring Training and will be advising Jim Hendry on player development and any potential trades. I dont care how, I'm just glad the Cubs are making him part of the organization.

Wow, at 16 mil per year, imagine what Pujols will demand when it's his turn.

I hope it works, I got it in an email and didnt see any posts about it. The "Road to Wrigley" game will be held on Sunday August 9th at Wrigley Field with the Iowa Cubs facing the Las Vegas 51's at 1:20 p.m. CT. Very affordable and should be a good time. Tix go on sale to the general public next week.

I'm always interested in what professional athletes drive or at least what they own and last week Reed Johnson updated his blog about his new toy. So he says he is going to be pimpin' a low riding '51 Mercury soon. I hope he adds something Cubs related to it as he works on customizing it to his liking. I didnt know he already owned a Cobra but he's right about not being to drive it much unless he moves to a California team which I hope doesn't happen for a couple more seasons.

Don't have MLB Netwk? Links to ask for it!

Ok so I have Dish Network and my area of LaGrange, IL still does not have MLB Network. I dont think Dish Network carries it at all. If you have AT&T/Uverse you are probably in the same boat. I found a couple links thru the MLB Network website where you can send a letter to each carrier asking them for MLB Network. It's very quick and easy.

For Dish Network users click here

For AT&T/Uverse users click here

If the above links don't work, please try this one

No details yet on the $$$$$

CHICAGO (TICKER) —The Chicago Cubs on Monday agreed to terms with reliever Kevin Gregg on a one-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Acquired in an offseason trade from the Florida Marlins, Gregg went 7-8 with 29 saves and 3.41 ERA in 72 appearances in 2008. He tied for the National League lead in relief wins and ranked eighth in saves.

Gregg, who likely will be used in a setup role with the Cubs, is 18-21 with 62 saves and a 4.00 ERA in 271 career appearances.

Given he grew up in Anaheim and lives in SD I figured the Dodgers made sense but maybe the Brewers are willing to offer more than a one year deal.

According to the Cubs website this years rally will be on Tuesday, 9/30/08 from 12PM to 12:45.

Hall of Famer Billy Williams, WGN Radio's Ron Santo and Cubs chairman Crane Kenney were scheduled to appear. Actor Jim Belushi will be the emcee and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley are expected to attend.

This is one of those times I'm glad to be working downtown. FYI, it will be in the 60's so wear your fall Cubs gear.

I've been looking for a good Cubs theme for a while now but have had no luck. Today I stumbled upon this decent looking theme, but the greatest part about it is that when you receive an incoming call you get none other than our good friend Milton! How cool is that? The creator of this theme must be a BCB member. See pic below in comments. Not very good with these fanshots.

Anyway, the link above is for an 88XX series Blackberry. Here is the url for the 83xx series which is what I have and downloaded onto my Curve.

One last thing, you'll have to Register but it's quick and easy and for a good FREE theme is well worth it.

Bleed Cubbie Blue BCB Flickr Group

It’s been discussed here and there so I took the liberty and finally went ahead and created a Flickr group for us. I hope I’m not steppin on any toes (ouch). Hopefully it can serve as an additional resource to all of our daily Cublogging needs.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Time For Bartman?

I have to confess something. For a little bit there, I wanted to blame Bartman. Today, it almost weighs on me like a heavy uncomfortable winter coat. I don't even know why. It's amazing how blown up out of proportion this even got to be. So do we all share even a tiny bit of guilt over how he was treated? We can all sit here now and say we never blamed him. But the truth is, many, many of us did. Because it was easy.

I stumbled across this article from The Pantagraph (a small daily newspaper from Bloomington, IL) that best desribes what I mean.

The article tells about how certain Cubs including Dusty and Moises Alou fueled the fire that led Bartman having to pretty much disapear off the face of the planet. What I read that struck me the most and prompted me to write this fanpost is the following;

On Wednesday, Baker was quoted in the Chicago Tribune as saying, "I thought that a long time ago," when asked if Bartman should be let off the hook for the collapse. A couple of weeks earlier, Alou told Jim Litke of the Associated Press, "Everywhere I play, even now, people still yell, ‘Bartman! Bartman!’ I feel really bad for the kid. You know what the funny thing is? I wouldn’t have caught it anyway." This from a guy who immediately after the game told reporters, "I timed it perfectly, I jumped perfectly. I’m almost 100 percent (sure) that I had a clean shot to catch the ball. All of a sudden, there’s a hand on my glove."

If you’ve seen Alou play the outfield, you know there is never a "100 percent" certainty he will catch a ball. Given the fact this one required him to leap and extend his arm over a railing, believe him when he says, "I wouldn’t have caught it anyway."

It was kind of infuriating to read this. I think we all touched on this a bit the other day when Bill Buckner received a warm ovation in Boston and we all talked about Ernie Banks' comments about moving towards something similar with Sammy. I think Sammy is great and it would be nice to someday have closure to all this between Sammy, the organization and the fans. Sammy will be just fine regardless of what happens or doesn't happen though and I'd like to know something is done with Bartman first. Maybe you all know what's become of him but I sure don't. I'd like to see some of these former Cubs and maybe even the organization do something about it.

Finally, a poll. Let's all be honest here:

Poll
Did you at some point since THAT play happened want to blame Bartman or held some kind of angry feelings towards him?
Yes, I still think it was his fault.
12 votes
Yes, but I have since forgiven him.
30 votes
I had to blame somebody.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Rogers Centre Road Trip

I'm planning on taking a road trip for the Cubs series in Toronto June 13-15. I'm wondering if any of you Cub fans here on BCB have any isnight into the Rogers Centre, Seating at Rogers Centre, Toronto sightseeing, driving to Toronto, etc.

I'm working on finding good tickets for at least 2 of 3 games as well, any 411 about this would also be appreciated. blujays.com still has tickets available but not the greatest seats so I'll make that a 2nd or 3rd option.

When this is all said and done I'll be posting about my experience and hopefully provide many pictures. In the meantime, would appreciate any input, thoughts or opinions. Thanks in advance!!!!!

Bleed Cubbie Blue A Cub Fan's Music Playlist

This weekend it became harder and harder to believe. It also became harder to watch the news, pick up the newspaper, turn on the radio, talk to co-workers (sox or other fans). But we're all still here right?

I originally posted this diary as a pregame warmup to yesterday's mashing of the Cards, but there's never a bad time for some Chicago Cubs tunes.

Feel free to post your own!!!

Bleed Cubbie Blue Advice on Jersey Wanted

So I open my anniversary gift and at first glance I jump out of my seat in excitement. It's a Cubs Jersey. I hug her and kiss her and say thanks. I take it out of the box and hold it up and its similar to this one . That is, until I look at the back and it's blank. So I try to disguise my sudden return to earth. It's still nice and I'm thankful, dont get me wrong. I just dont feel comfortable wearing it like this, it feels like a womans shirt. She doesnt want to tell me where or how she got it, which is weird too.

I need your help if you can 1.) advise what font would you say this looks like?  2.) where near Chicagoland do you think I can find the patches (Numbers/Letters)....  and 3.) where to get them sewn on.

I asked at a local embroidery and because the numbers are patches

Any other ideas, input, comments would be most appreciated. Thanks!
