I read the latest chat with our favorite analyst from our favorite worldwide leader. It almost seems like he is giddy with excitement hooping Parise gets traded.

In Lou We Trust New Jersey's Next Goalie

I'm sure many of us have been watching Les Habs and the Penguins. Jaroslav Halak has been unconscious in net for Montreal. This has made Carey "Jesus" Price expendable. Price was once the golden boy in Montreal but the pressure of playing in the hockey hot bed of Montreal finally got to him.

After looking at Price's contract situation his contract is up after this season. He also only makes 850k base salary with incentives bringing it near 2 million. Now I know that seems like a lot for a back-up goalie who will only play sporadically, but Marty isn't getting younger. He has two years left on his contract.

The Devils could promote from Lowell but those goalies have a combined total of zero NHL games. Wouldn't it be better to have a young goalie who has shown flashes of brilliance, and because of that might make the Devils next head coach think twice about resting Brodeur.

I think it would be a mistake to just promote a goalie in 2012 when Brodeur is 40 and his contract runs up. Make Brodeur stick around one more year to groom the new goalie. Grabbing Price now while he is available and expendable might be the better option.

This all depends on whether Price would be willing to play tops forty games over the next two seasons to have a starting job. However, the further the Canadiens go riding Halak the less likely Price will regain his starting job. His age, 22, is at his advantage, he has the luxury of waiting two years. The Devils must also be willing to pay more for a back-up now to have him in their system in two years, and also if that flash of brilliance can come back or Price is a headcase who was just that, a flash in the pan.

I personally believe Price caved under the pressure of the Canadien press and would be suited better here in New Jersey were hockey is fourth fiddle in term of team sports and second fiddle in terms of hockey teams. The Devils defensive style is also beneficial to any goalie. Look at Clemmenssen last year and this year.

Maybe I am kidding myself but since our season ended prematurely I have to find something to occupy myself.  I look forward to your opinion.
