He's done a great job of building this team. We are very versatile and will match up well in the playoffs with most other teams line-ups in the league. As i see it, only Cleveland, Orlando, LA, and San Antonio have a chance of beating Boston in the playoffs. for example:

Lets say we play Cleveland in the playoffs. Here are some line-ups they can go with:

Mo Williams or Daniel Gibson

Delonte West or Anthony Parker or Jamario Moon

LeBron James

Anderson Varejao?

Shaquille O'neal or Zydrunas Ilgauskas

We match-up pretty well with this. Rondo can contain Williams or Gibson. We will have plenty of shot-blockers to slow down lebron in the paint. Shaq simply could not guard Rasheed at the high post.

Now Orlando:

Jameer Nelson

Vince Carter or Mikael Pietrus

Rashard Lewis

Dwight Howard or Brandon Bass

Marcin Gortat or Dwight Howard

I believe Vince Carter and Ray Allen would even eachother out in a series. The celtics could go big with KG on Rashard, Perkins on Howard, and Rasheed on Gortat. I felt like Perkins did a damn good job against Dwight last year in the playoffs. The only match-up i'd be concerned with is Pierce/Lewis. It doesn't seem like Paul does as well against long athletic players.

LA:

Derek Fisher or Jordan Farmar

Kobe

Ron Artest or Luke Walton

Pau Gasol or Lamar Odom?

Andrew Bynum

I think Rondo could have a hayday in this series. Fisher is a pretty terrible defender, and he's only getting older. If Rondo can consistently hit his little floater that he loves, LA wouldn't have an answer for him. The Lakers have been notoriously bad against the pick-and-roll the past few years. Rasheed could bring Bynum away from the basket and creat more space. Marquis Daniels would be a pretty decent defender on Kobe, or he's better fit to guard him than anyone on our roster currently.

San Antonio:

Tony Parker or George Hill

Manu Ginobili or Roger Mason

Richard Jefferson

Tim Duncan

Antonio McDyess

Duncan vs. KG would be a great match-up. To be honest I think San Antonio could just as easily be in the finals as LA. The starting line-up is very close to even, but the celtics have the edge on depth. And Manu's injuries have been staggering, he may not even be healthy come playoff time.

So, like I said before, I think we match-up very well with the other contenders, and we have an answer for our opponents no matter what they come at us with. The celtics, from their demeanor to skillsets, are simply a playoff team. They're tough, gritty, good defenders, veteran experience and great basketball IQ.

intricate trade idea

(Editor's Note: this is actually pretty decent idea from Trey - hopefully he did his homework and it works in the trade checker... - G17)

I know its just speculation, but it's not unreasonable. I'm basing this off of rumors that Miller may go to portland and new orleans expressing interest in big baby. here it goes:

BOS Receives:

-Steve Blake

-Hilton Armstrong

-1st round pick (NOH)

BOS Trades:

-Tony Allen

-Glen Davis

-Bill Walker

POR Receives:

-Andre Miller

POR Trades:

-Steve Blake

-Rudy Fernandez

-2nd round pick

PHI Receives:

-Rudy Fernandez

-Bill Walker

-Antonio Daniels

-2nd rd pick (POR)

NOH Receives:

-Glen Davis

-Tony Allen

NOH Trades:

-Hilton Armstrong

-Antonio Daniels

-1st round pick

I think this is pretty logical for all teams. Philly has been trying for weeks to S&T Miller. They gain some depth with this move, and Daniels' expiring contract doesn't hurt. New Orleans has shown interest in BBD, especially after the loss of Bass. Portland has shown interest in Miller and they don't give up too much here. The celtics get reasonable value for the rising talent of BBD, not to mention a backup point guard, and the pick could be valuable.

BOS Depth Chart:

Rajon Rondo / Steve Blake / Gabe Pruitt

Ray Allen / Eddie House / JR Giddens

Paul Pierce / Marquis Daniels

Kevin Garnett / Rasheed Wallace / Brian Scalabrine

Kendrick Perkins / Hilton Armstrong

^^That is a very deep and very dangerous team. Very versatile, too. I think we could still go far if one of the big 3 goes down.

<!--I know this is just speculation, but it's not unreasonable. I'm basing this off-->

Big Baby S&T idea

First i want to say that if Davis does not get too high of an offer, the Cs should definitely match. He will be a very solid player for years to come. But if he wants more than we can pay, a sign and trade would be ideal, so we could actually get some value in return. New Orleans has supposedly expressed interest in BBD. Here's my idea:

BOS Receives:

-Antonio Daniels

-1st round pick

NOH Receives:

-Glen Davis

It's not a whole lote, but its beeter than nothing. Daniels is a pretty good ballhandler, which we need. Some one to merely facilitate some kind of offense when the second unit is on the floor. We also get a pick, which could come in handy as the big 3 ages. I trust danny can pick a keeper in the first round. New Orleans gets depth in the frontcourt and another young talent.

small trade idea

I recently read about Andre Miller's talks with Philadelphia, and it doesnt seem like they are offering him what he wants. His agent is trying to workout several sign and trade scenarios, but hasn't had any luck yet. I think this could be a good opportunity to drop some salary and maybe score a good player or two. Since we don't really have a need for Andre Miller, a third team would have to be involved. Here's my idea

BOS Receives:

-Steve Blake

PHI Receives:

-Brian Scalabrine

-Tony Allen

-Sergio Rodriguez

-2nd rd. pick (POR)

PHI Trades:

-Andre Miller

POR Receives:

-Andre Miller

POR Trades:

-Steve Blake

-Sergio Rodriguez

-2nd rd. pick

BOS Depth Chart

Rondo/Blake/Pruitt

Allen/Pierce

Pierce/Hill?/giddens or walker

Garnett/Davis?

Perkins/Wallace

I've seen a lot of people's ideas for the ideal offseason for the celtics, and I don't know what's going on in half of your heads. The Celtics don't need any major changes by any means. If it weren't for KG's injury, I think they would have won another title. However, we do have a few gaps to fill, and with a lot of teams in the east already improving their rosters, the Cs can't get too far behind.

Here is what I think the Celtics should do:

-Give the full MLE to Sheed: We desparately need a post who can actually play center, as this past playoffs has showed us. Sheed will be more than a decent fill-in player. A rotation with Sheed, perkins, and Garnett is good both offensively and defensively. If this doesn't work out, I think our second best option would be McDyess, who would play for less of the MLE anyways.

-Back-up wing: I have heard that Milwaukee might buy out Bowen's contract. If they, the Cs should jump all over him. He's got a winning background and he's a determined defender. If not, I like Anthony Parker (depending on sheed, we may not have enough to sign him), Desmond Mason (what is he asking for?), and Pops Mensah-Bonsu (athletic defender for cheap).

-Re-sign Big Baby: He was an important piece to our playoff run last year, and he's only improving. We should also be looking down the road, past the big 3, and I think Davis could be an important part of our future.

-Back-up Point: I would like to re-sign house as well, but let's face it, the guy is NOT a point guard. we need a player that can handle the ball under pressure and keep his man in front of him. I think a few of our best options are Bobby Jackson (only his defense worries me), and Will Bynum (he may want more than we have to offer).
