SFPL Historical Photographs
Really cool photos from the past 160 years, including quite a few of Seals Stadium & Candlestick's construction.

There is no way I'm suffering through this alone.
Completely, utterly, horrendously off-topic, but some friends showed me this video last night, and all I could think of was Creepy Zito.
Also, has anyone ever seen Phil Collins and Matt Williams in the same place at the same time? Just sayin…
Never-Seen Photos: Willie Mays
With all due respect to Hank Aaron, Stan Musial, and even Babe Ruth, Willie Mays was the greatest all-around player baseball's ever seen. The epitome of the "five tool" threat -- he could run, throw, field, hit for average and with astonishing power -- Mays bedeviled opponents and thrilled fans for more than two decades. Here, on the 60th anniversary of his May 25th, 1951 major league debut, LIFE.com presents previously unpublished photos of Mays by Loomis Dean, Alfred Eisenstaedt, and Ralph Morse from the '50s and '60s -- an era when the Say Hey Kid's preternatural talent and infectious joy on the diamond provided millions with one more giant reason to love the game.
If I weren't a Giants fan, I'd say this has gone way too far. But I am, so suck it, Mat Latos.
Hey all... as I mentioned before, I'm helping put on a fundraiser raffle for Bryan Stow this Friday evening at Speakeasy.
We're still collecting raffle prizes, but so far we have massages, tattoos, a Green Apple gift card, the Giants World Champion issue of Uncanny X-Men, some gorgeous photos from the ballpark, and I'm working with a contact at CSN to get some tickets and other stuff. I'll add more as I get it in. Also, Ashkon'll be there from 4-6pm.
And if anyone has anything they'd like to donate, please do let me know. I'm troymccluresf on Twitter and Gmail/Google Talk.
Fairweather fans of reigning World Series Champ Giants fail to sell out Petco Park
"Their team won the World Series just a few months ago and they can't even support them enough to sell out our ballpark!"
Pretty funny.
And then, on my walk home from work, I see this in Duboce Park. No, last night's attack wasn't about baseball, but seriously, dude? Today?
Nice little article about a nice little painting. Note the AT&T Park Coke bottle.
And speaking of Coke, I suspect the trucks at Coca-Cola HQ didn't get this paint job.
Moylan's making a Giants beer
NOVATO, CA – In honor of the World Champions (World Series Winning San Francisco Giants) at the Cove, Moylan’s has created a smooth, American Black Ale brewed with orange zest.
Since we’re on the subject of flowcharts and Major League Baseball is just around the corner, I have prepared this handy guide that will help you decide which baseball team you should root for.
Do you have a soul?
[No.]
Yankees.

Brian Wilson's back on Twitter.
Most likely real, since he's visiting Twitter today.
Ring revealed?
Late Monday, NBC San Diego and NBC Bay Area posted an alleged prototype of the Giants World Series ring. Both articles have since been yanked from both sites. Via the magic of cache, here's what remains: "[F]amous Tiffany's &Co. has prototyped the Giants' World Series ring, with team management set to soon review it. Details are still coming in, but when we know the jewel count and the underlying thoughts behind the specifics of the ring."
Big surprise, Joe Morgan's a jerkface
SS: The worst player I ever dealt with was Joe Morgan. Oh my gosh. He was a prima donna. One time I was doing some work for the Giants — I did some work for them, too — and I walked into the clubhouse. Now, Wilson was making the Giants’ jerseys at the time, and they had apparently sent a size 44 jersey for Morgan, when he wore a size 40. So I walk into the clubhouse and Morgan just lets me have it, cussing at me, he throws his jersey at me, he goes, "Hey you, this is your fault! What kinda shit is this? Fix my fucking shirt!" And I went nose-to-nose with him and said, "Hey, you don’t ever talk to me that way." He and I nearly got into a fistfight. A few players had to break us up.
Also, he made a couple of neat Giants-related things here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/65516705@N00/sets/72157625746633066/detail/
1,242 megapixel scrollable, zoomable image of NLDS Game 1
You can tag yourself with Facebook, too. I'm the one in 331… top deck just left of the LF foul pole.
Stay classy, Yankee fans.
Not to say this doesn't go well beyond this silly little sport we all care about. McCovey Chronicles, somewhat liek the Bay Area is a bubble of sanity (in some ways) and it's easy to forget how fucked up people still are to those different than them.
Jamie Molina might have a tumor on her liver
On another note, I'm asking for a favor. I just came from the doctor's office with Jamie. She's been undergoing tests for the past few weeks, and the doctor is saying she might have a tumor on her liver. The latest test results should be back later today or tomorrow. Please say a prayer. Thanks.
Today, I root for Los Angeles.
Look, no one here actually likes rooting for the Dodgers, but the attitude that we cannot wish the Dodgers to win in any circumstance, ever is a ridiculous stance to take.

Chivalry Is Dead: Man Ducks Foul Ball Before It Hits Girlfriend
I bet Krukow would've embarrassed this twerp even worse.
Brian Sabean "the most difficult GM to trade with"
Responding to Henry Schulman's San Francisco Chronicle piece about the Giants' need for bullpen help, Olney identifies two roadblocks. According to general managers, the relief market is "very, very thin." On top of that, a group of GMs polled by Olney named Brian Sabean as the most difficult GM to trade with.
Tommy Lasorda bagging groceries today at noon
San Francisco Giants players Aaron Rowand, Jeremy Affeldt and team president Larry Baer will join Major League Baseball Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda at a Safeway store in the city's Potrero Hill neighborhood at noon for the store's annual fundraiser for prostate cancer research.
Dodgers tap into 'V energy'
Shpunt says he is a scientist and a healer, not a magician. His method could not guarantee the Dodgers would win, he says, but it could make a difference.
"Maybe it is just a little," he said. "Maybe it can help."
In the five years he worked for the Dodgers, he attended just one game. Instead, he watched them on television in his home more than 3,000 miles from Dodger Stadium, channeling his thoughts toward the team's success.
Friday: Lincecum, Saturday: Wellemeyer
Maybe I'm missing something in my undercaffeinated state, but what's the point of messing with the rotation if we're *not* skipping the No. 5 starter? What does flipping Lincecum & Wellemeyer accomplish? I'd understand if we were swept by SD and needed a boost but now?
Justin Bieber, Dodger fan
I twittered delorean's post from yesterday's sweep thread and SFist picked it up. :D
