T. Embree: I hate la, dirty, crowded, traffic, expensive..most overrated city in america cant wait to get baq to the #303
Really, Taylor?! Way to alienate the University that gave you a scholarship. Never seen anyone regress so much since their freshman year. Nobody is stopping you from leaving.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Are you sure this isn't sour grapes from losing your starting job at wide receiver and punt returner?
Affordable Round Trip To Cal Game Available To Students
The Den and USAC have coordinated and made available a $61 round trip charter bus ride for students to attend the UCLA-Cal game on Saturday. They have also set up a rally around the Bruin Bear at midnight on Friday night.
This is a great idea and just the kind of forward thinking we need to build school spirit and create life long fans. Hats off to our own bk bruin, the Den and the other students involved for making this happen.
UCLA Professor Terence Tao: One of History's "10 Best Mathematicians"
Terence Tao was selected as one of "the 10 best mathematicians" of all time by The Guardian (UK daily national newspaper founded in 1821 with the 2nd largest worldwide online readership of any English language newspaper behind only the NY Times, according to Alexa).
Dr. Tao, who is the youngest ever to receive the Fields Medal (2006), has been a professor at UCLA since 1996. The Fields Medal, awarded only every four years by the International Mathematical Union, is viewed as the top honor a mathematician can receive and is often call the "Nobel Prize of Mathematics," for the prestige it carries.
Other notable milestones:
Scores 760 in the SAT Math section at 8 years old
Remains the youngest to win a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad at 13 years old
At 17, he wins a Fulbright Scholarship to undertake postgraduate study in the United States, where he receives his Ph.D from Princeton at age 20
The Original Trogan
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
While "trOJans" is still my favorite way to refer to the cheaters across town, U$C* football recruit Markeith Ambles has provided us with a great new way to poke fun at the Trogans (especially while doing it verbally). Being ignorant Trogans, they are quick to excuse Ambles' mistake as a simple typo anyone could easily make. Truth is, though, that he's used "Trogan" in two different tweets on different days. As expected, his Twitter account has been shut down and is no longer available.
The best evidence I could find of the two separate tweets is this Atlanta Journal-Constitution article that quotes his Twitter feed:
SI.com recruiting reporter (and former AJC intern) Andy Staples was first to note Ambles’ problems with spelling "Trojans" when he saw Ambles’ tweet: "@mARKEITHAMBLES: who will i be tomorrow a vol, trogan, or tar heel!!!!!!"
Staples blew it off as a typo until he saw the Henry County wide receiver’s update on Twitter after committing to USC Wednesday morning. At 12:19 p.m. he tweeted: "Go Trogans!!!!!!"
Wanting screen captures that we could preserve for posterity, I asked for help in this thread. Thank you Bruins, I think we have enough evidence--even for those Trogans who seem to be in eternal denial.

CRN Interview with 710 ESPN
Another example of Coach Neuheisel shining as the best football coach in the PAC10. This interview is worth the listen as he talks about Coach Chow and Hello Kiffen. As much as I hate how John Ireland (UCLA grad) has turned into an $c* homer (unforgivable even though he works for the $UC* station), I love how talk show hosts start out thinking they're going undermine Coach Neuheisel, but end up loving his interview. He's a perfect combination of humble and assertive. I love CRN!
Bruins in NBA Summer League
Bumped. Cool update. GO BRUINS. -N
While trying to find out more about AA's trade, I found this entry at ESPN with David Thorpe tweeting live from the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. He mentions our Bruins several times:
- Collison vs. Hill is a good matchup. George can defend.
- Collison does a nice job attacking the ballscreen. Pressures the show guy.
- Westbrook is the most explosive game changer.
- Collison can run a team. As Ben Howland knows.
- Collison is really nice. I see why Holiday played the 2.
- Kevin Love in the house. Looks like he's ready to out-tweet all the assembled writers when the Wolves play in a few minutes
- Interesting twist of philosophies. Westbrook is playing in his 2nd summer league this month. D Rose will not be in any. Mayo either.
- The only guy who knows how to play for this Bucks team is Luc.
Also, Kevin Arnovitz posted some additional notes on Darren:
One of my favorite matchups of the day was Darren Collison-George Hill. As David Thorpe pointed out in his twitter thread, Hill is a brutal guy for Collison to have to deal with on the first day of class. Hill was able to shoot over Collison, shake him off the dribble, and beat him in transition with his combination of handle and speed. But Collison put together a few nice sequences of his own, including one in the third quarter on a screen-and-roll with Earl Barron: Collison was able to penetrate off the screen, then lob a pretty floating pass to Barron, who slammed it home. In general, Collison marshaled the floor with confidence. The most notable feature of his halfcourt game as a point guard: Patience (hello, UCLA). He attacked only when he had an invitation, rarely forced a pass, and executed high-percentage feeds to the right guys on numerous occasions.
I'm really happy to see how well DC is doing in his debut. It doesn't surprise me one bit based on the way he carried himself throughout his career here in Westwood. Can't wait to see him mature as a player while learning from CP3. Go Bruins!
