A Non-Serious Post for a Change

Wow, so things are pretty heated these days, I thought light-hearted post might do us some good.

This subject comes up every now in comments, but I am curious, what are some of your most ridiculous superstitions you have had as a fan of the Denver Broncos?

For me, as a kid, I used to be absolutely insanely superstitious while watching Bronco games. My Top 4 most ridiculous superstitions (I would do a Top 5, but I can't remember more than 4):

#4 Wearing the same clothes, right-down to my damn boxer shorts, each and every Sunday. Of course, when the Broncos were winning consistently, I was seen wearing the same outfit every Sunday and I think most of my family thought I was pretty weird... And yes, I did wash everything in between Sundays.

#3 Sitting in the same position on the couch each and every week. Of course, if the Broncos started doing poorly, I'd switch spots. It's suprising I didn't create an imprint of my butt in that couch from 85-89.

#2 Ok, this one grosses me out to think back on it now... but for some random reason, I decided that one week, because I had some KFC for lunch for the first time in forever before the game, that that was the reason the Broncos won. So, I started to eat KFC for a few weeks until they lost. Then I decided to switch food choice for the following week. I did this for awhile until I realized how stupid it was. I guess I'm thankful the Broncos didn't go undefeated that season, or else I'd have eaten KFC every Sunday! Blegh...

#1 And I think this was the dumbest one of all... changing channels. Yep, for some very strange reason, I got it in my head that changing the channel would change the luck of the Broncos from bad to good. So, for example, if the Broncos were driving downfield, doing well, I would dare not touch the remote. However, if the Broncos got a 3 and out, I'd snatch up that remote like it was my worst enemy, quickly change the channel and then quickly change it back. I'd then set down the remote and sit there waiting for reversal of fortune to happen all on the quick channel changing of their #1 fan!!!

So, this stuff lasted through the teen years. It was interesting but at some point I realized being so superstitious was actually ruining my enjoyment of the game. I think it was around when I went off to college that I finally kicked most of these weird habits. It's probably a good thing, I bet my wife, who I met in college, would've been pretty freaked out by some of this behavior and wouldn't have even talked to such a weirdo.

In any case, over the last 10 years or so since college (ugh, that's depressing), it's weird, but some of these old tendencies have started to creep back into my behavior. Not nearly as bad or as ridiculous as my earlier superstitions... just little things like being scared to pick against them in upickem, or wearing the same Broncos t-shirt every Sunday. I find myself thinking to myself, as I don the same t-shirt I've worn every week this year, "wtf, am I doing?". Then I shrug and put it on anyways...

So, if you've had (or have currently) any funny superstitions, please do share. Have some fun... and take your mind off of such serious issues as to whether or not ol' Neckbeard should be our QB or whether not our OL is horrible this year.

Finally, in conclusion, I wanted to say....... ALLLLLL REEEAAAADY!!!!!

Not sure if this was posted somewhere already, but it is pretty humorous. Also, Waddle & Silvy managed to get him to call in this morning and he explained that basically it is his responsibility to get the ball after the TD and hold onto it in case the player wants it back as a keepsake. That's why he was sprinting down the sidelines...

Ok, guys, as most of you know, I'm a Cutler apologist. However, as you hopefully also know, I'm not blinded by my Cutlerism and I do recognize his flaws as well as his contributions in the firestorm that got him shipped out of Denver and traded to the Bears. I'm a realist and I understand the reasons why he is no longer a Denver Bronco. I also recognize that there really isn't much of a reason to post these links aside from the fact that there are a few good tidbits of insight from our star CB into his state of mind regarding this offseason.

However, I do feel that with as much flak Cutler gets on this site these days, it's only fair to our former QB to get a little bit of positive pub every once and awhile. So, here are two fairly recent links:

Champ Bailey on the Waddle and Silvy Show (Chicago Talk Radio)

Cutler not interested in endorsements yet

The first link is interesting in that many of us (including me) were reading into Champ's initial comments regarding the Cutler trade as Bailey not viewing Cutler very favorably. If this interview is any indication, that was not accurate assessment. The second link is hopefully ... well, I guess for Bears' fans ... an indication that he is indeed maturing off the field and will show improvements on the field as a result. From a former fan's perspective, I think the accounts of what he has been doing off the field and his comments regarding focusing on football are highly classy and professional.

Yes yes, I know what you are going to say: "Tunga, you need to move on"... I've said the same thing myself several times in comments for other posts!! But as a self-proclaimed Cutler apologist, I just couldn't let these positive stories of Cutler not get posted, when all the negative ones do...

Anyways, for what its worth and for those few remaining Cutler fans out there, enjoy the links! =)

I forgot about this part of the KC/Denver game (watch through first 1:00 of the video) and it made me lol. Like I said before, even though the Broncos lost this game, it is in my Top 5/10 Favorite games of all time. This guy, Yoda9999, actually has the entire game cut up into 19 parts on youtube... I just finished re-watching the game.

So, I heard this morning on M&M (Mike and Mike in the Morning) that they interviewed John Clayton and that J-Clay, a hof voter, claims that the voters were voting on Shannon Sharpe as a WR, not a TE. And that if that's the case, his chances are greatly diminished to make it in this year due to Chris Carter and Andre Reed having better overall numbers than Shannon.

Ummm....

Errrr....

Right! This makes absolutely no sense or logic whatsoever... except to further our evidence of the "Anti-Bronco Bias" that has been an hallmark of the hof voters for so many years. Shannon was not a WR, he was a TE, what's so difficult about that?! And oh btw, he was a TE that helped revolutionize the position to what it is today and retired owning almost every major receiving record ... by a TE. Even if these voters are looking at him as a WR, how about his 1 statistic to weigh in with the rest of the individual numbers: 3 Superbowl Rings.

To M&M's credit, they also think this makes no sense, and that Shannon should get definitely get in, if not this year, then at the very least sometime in the very near future.

In any case, let's hope this will not be the case and Shannon gets his well-deserved first-ballot honor.
