Gentlemen! I've drunk your health in Company, I've drunk your health alone. I've drunk your health so many times, I've damn near ruined my own! Here's to me!

Oxy in the NHL
Philadelphia Flyers centre Ian Laperrière, who is slated to spend the year on the injured list due to a concussion, said it’s not at all uncommon to try and "numb yourself down" from the demands of playing in the NHL.
"The pill issue is a big thing … it’s a problem, and people need to start talking about it," he said.
The NHL has a highly-regarded rehabilitation program for substance abuse, but that hasn’t prevented situations like Boogaard’s, who died after taking the pain-killing drug oxycodone while drinking alcohol.
"I don’t know if Belak took these things or not, and I don’t want to speculate, but I will say this: Show me a tough guy and I’ll show you someone who pops pills," Laperrière said.
This was for a class in which we used "found footage" to match our choice of music. Love Ovie. Love Vivaldi. I guess it seemed simple enough.
From the game I shot a while ago. I'd have uploaded earlier, but school was a little crazy.

I enjoyed the segment, though I have a hard time with Phaneuf's inclusion.
Rob Blake On Loveline, February 1999
I don't know how many people listened to Loveline back when Adam Carolla was still Dr. Drew's co-host, but I'll concede it was something I loved and looked forward to every day during my miserable adolescence. Carolla is one of the great underrated comics.
Anyway, since Rob Blake is about to retire, I thought I'd share the link to the episode on which he appeared.
The link is kosher, but the audio file is really, really NSFW.
Congrats to Rob Blake on a fantastic career.
And as a bonus, here's the link to my favorite Loveline call.
Still A Beast <-------- Hasek
At forty-five, he backstops his Czech club to the league championship. The guy's just a stud.
Viewing Party @ The Canadian Embassy
I don't know if anyone else went to this little shindig, but a good time was had by all. I had a friend who couldn't make it, so my brother and I went instead. The place was absolutely packed -- at least a thousand people total. I'd say it was about half USA, half Canada -- standing room only.
Other stuff
--Tons of Molson. Literally tons of Molson were consumed. It was the only alcohol they were serving, and Yanks and 'Nucks alike were throwing down like it was a frat party. My guess is that it was mostly staffers and their plus ones, because the forty and up crowd was no where to be seen.
--I watched the game with two Marines, a guy from the English Embassy, and his girlfriend. With six minutes left, the Brit prophesied a US tying goal with less than forty-five seconds in regulation. Very impressive. He also called the Crosby GWG with nine minutes left in OT, so he was only off by a few minutes. Very, very impressive.
--How the hell is it that Americans didn't think of french fries and gravy? I'd never had it, but now that I have, if I had to choose between a barrel of french fries and gravy, and a vile of heroin, I'd only barely choose the dope. I don't know how many tubs I put back, but it was unseemly, I'm sure. That stuff was amazing.
--Elliot Segal was there. We had a nice little conversation.
--Finally, the place was LOUD. They had a bunch of flat screens and a projector in the main room, and the place blew up each time someone scored. When the US tied it in the final minute, I couldn't hear myself yelling. Everyone was going apeshit crazy, jumping around and hugging each other. Chants of "USA USA" sounded off sporadically throughout the afternoon, with two guys in Uncle Sam outfits leading the chorus. Then Canada won. My ears are ringing right now.
It was a tough loss to be sure, but I definitely had a good time watching such a beautifully played game.
Casino Night Synopsis
On Christmas morning, I opened an envelope w/ a VIP ticket to Caps Casino Night. Shortly after, I changed into a fresh pair of underwear. Pics after the jump.

Pick 'Em: 190 Footers -- Majesky's or Schultz's?
Every so often, the Hockey Gods smile on our little operation. Every so often, Caps fans get to see the Hockey Gods rain shit on another organization. My God, those are beautiful moments.

Pick 'Em: '97, '02, or '08 Red Wings
Hockey's Greatest Teams lists the '97 Red Wings as one of the fifteen greatest teams of all time. I can't say I agree, but it raises a question: Of the stellar puck-moving Wings squads, which is the best? I ask this in honor of Knuble's signing.
Via Hockey-Reference.com:
Give me the 2002 roster. The '97's version of the Green Unit was incredible, but the additions of Hull, Hasek, an emerging Datsyuk, and Robitaille to complement Lidstrom, Feds, Yzerman, Shanny, Holmstrom, Larionov, Chelios, and the Grind Line 2.0... That's a nasty, nasty Hockey club.

Parise or Getzlaf? Cognitive Wrist Slashing
As we wait for Fehr to develop into something more than a john who couldn't finish in a whorehouse with a fistful of benjies, I ask this: Straight up, do you take Zach Parise or Ryan Getzlaf?
Malkin or Lindros?
If you could choose either player in his prime...
Malkin
2X Hart finalist, 2X Pearson nominee, 1 Art Ross, Calder winner, 1.25 career P/G, 1.16 career playoff P/G, 1 Cup finals appearance
Lindros
1X Hart winner, 1X Pearson winner, Art Ross runner up by default, 1.13 career P/G, 1.07 career playoff P/G, 1 Cup finals appearance
During the 2002 games, I asked one of my friends who'd just gotten his Green Card whether he was for his native Canadians, or his newly beloved Yanks:
"It's hard to go against my roots, but Lindros can be such a bitch. I hope the US takes it to him hard and often. I hate to say it, but 'Go team USA'"
And there you are.
Personally, I'd take Lindros in his prime. He really was the complete package before he had his twenty or so concussions. Malkin hasn't peaked yet, so the question is a terrible one, but the two are so similar.
Thoughts? Feelings?

If you asked me why I've been a rabid Caps fan for so long, I probably wouldn't be able to provide a logical answer.
