Movie posters for 2013 Twins players

We haven't seen the Twins' advertising campaign for 2013 yet; I'm sure it'll be a doozy. "Get To Know 'Em: Opposing GMs Are" might be the theme. Until then, let's scan the archives from that other...

Slightly windy but enjoyably personal musing on scorecards, by a young woman describing a day spent in near-empty stands. Saw it linked over at Let's Go Tribe, thought I'd bring it here.

Twins Uniforms Called 71st Best In Sports

15

Taking list-making to a new, strange level, "sports' only full-time uniform reporter," one Paul Lukas of ESPN, ranks uniforms in the four big sports from 1-122. The Twins are described thusly: "The Twins' home script hasn't aged well. It always felt too clunky, and now it also feels too 1980s. The current road script is handsome but feels too clean, too sterile, like it was designed by someone at Hallmark instead of someone connected to the sports world. The net result is a look that feels just a tad rinky-dink -- the uniform equivalent of a four-A player. Also: Too many alternates." Incidentally, the Wild come in at #32, the Wolves at #115, and the Vikings at #119. Really? The Purple?

Why People Are Annoyed (And Why I'm Not)

The Liriano trade has made people angry, and I get it. Man, do I get it. But I think it's misdirected anger. Calvin Griffith sold off Tony Oliva and made racist jokes about him afterwards, which...

"Catching Hell": Great Bartman Documentary

5

(Don't bother clicking the link unless you want to see an ad. I wanted to pimp this documentary in a FanShot and you have to choose "Image," "Link," or what-not, so I chose "Link." But do check out the documentary.) On Xmas I watched a DVD of ESPN's "Catching Hell" with the SO, not a big sports fan, and we both loved it. It's about scapegoats in sports, like Steve Bartman and Bill Buckner, and it's really, really well done. The filmmaker, Alex Gibney, is skilled at interviewing and putting pieces of a mystery puzzle together, so even those who don't remember the drama of that Cubs/Marlins game can enjoy the movie. You baseball fans will eat it up, I promise. I got it on Netflix, but ESPN might show it again and you can always ask your local library to buy it. Highly recommended.

Just got "The Baseball Project"'s second album. I loved the first -- it's a group project by a bunch of musicians who are big hardball fans -- and the second's a blast, too. Here's a montage to the album's fourth track, done by a fellow named Craig Finn. If you haven't seen it, it's fun. The album also has a song, "Look Out Mom," referencing a certain incident involving a certain Twins outfielder. Check it out . . .
