With apologies to OPS, I'm going to watch some of the later games so am starting an unauthorized open thread. First, I'm not ashamed to admit I only watched parts of the 2nd half this afternoon. At one time I texted a friend that I thought Iowa should have been down either 28 or 31, I couldn't remember which. Holy balls was that game fucked up. I think any other coach would have benched the Manzi after the 5th interception. 9-0. What is most unbelievable to me is how they have gotten here. In any event, I'm going to watch the PSUers bitchmake jNW.

Well, that is mostly due to Houston getting beat by UTEP. Yep, they were #12 last week. See ya. OU gets love with their 2-2 record and most of offensive first teamers hurt. The trip to Wisconsin doesn't look so inviting at the moment. And why is Tyler Hansbrough (sp?) in an AT&T commercial?

Last weekend, I went to BSD. They're good guys. Considering their Eastern Time Zones and there's a shit pot of them, they have a good thread about the tOSU thread. They jhate Bobby Bowden with hate we couldn't possibly muster. Anywho, the wife and I are 2 bottles of wine to the better after the Hawkeyes beat AZ, she's shut down, and I'm up for watching more football. This Livethread will be quicker than the game thread with +1000 comments. Hoping someone else is out there. We'll see. Presently wathcing TT v. Texas but will flip around. Oh, and fuck Purdue.

Not that ESPN is always right, but Rittenberg typically is pretty careful. After last week's clusterfuck line play, let's move someone into the left tackle spot so Stanzi can't roll anywhere to save his life. Hope they can run about 10x better - Robinson - get a lead and lower my blood pressure so my eyeballs don't bleed.

I'm confident I'm late to this news, as I don't want to hear about fall camp injuries, but Morehouse is saying Stanzi's up to 230? That is a bunch bigger (although I won't comment on the tatoo on the inside of his right bicep - whatever the fuck it says).

To the extent the gentlemen in Iowa City have mostly drunk and disorderly violations, I guess I'll embrace my alma mater's fine showing. I would prefer a score somewhere more middle of the pack, rather than tied for overall honors (like a national merit scholar or something), as USF is currently asteriked with merely one perpetrator (pussies). But what a mix of schools - Hawaii, Iowa, Ball State, the smelley cocks, UCLA.

SI continues to provoke me

Today, the UI site has scrolling pictures of Norm P., KOK, a shot of the UI/Purdue game (?) and the Iowa State spring scrimmage.

I bitched to them so many times last fall about their ISU pictures I'm sure they've either put a block on me, or more infuriatingly take bets on how long it'll take me to deliver another shit bomb when they post pictures of the wrong team. Even as I recognize this irritates me far out of proportion, I'm too far gone to let it go. Somebody help, please.

In light of recent evidence suggesting actual analysis on BHGP, I expect HS or OPS will dig into this, filing a freedom of information act request with the UI, and determine what the buyout terms are, if any. Wait, KF negotiated with Barta. Barta probably thinks a buyout means the school has to pay the coach a lump sum when said coach jumps to the nfl after his youngest son graduates. Still and all, this is good news. Although our school has demonstrated a willingness (thanks Bowlsby) to pay many pesos more than it's status in major college football suggests, I'm hard pressed to think of anyone else I want coaching that would actually be willing to come to Iowa City.

Dear Hawkeyes Fan,
The University of Iowa Athletics Department is now selling reserved seat tickets assigned to seats located behind the baskets of Carver-Hawkeye Arena for $10 to all five of the remaining home games of Coach Todd Lickliter's UI men's basketball team.

The price reflects a $17 savings on tickets for the four games that will be played on Saturday or Sunday, and a $12 savings on tickets for Iowa's game against Ohio State which is scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 3.

Tickets can be purchased over the telephone by calling 1-800-IA-HAWKS, online at hawkeyesports.com, and in person at the UI Athletics Ticket Office in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

UI Director of Athletics Gary Barta said the decision to make the offer is a by-product of several factors including, most notably, the challenging economic times for fans of the Hawkeyes, residents of the state, and the UI campus including the UI Athletics Department brought on by last spring's natural disasters and the sputtering national economy.

"We know that for many, many Iowans and long-time fans of the Hawkeyes, attending a game at Carver-Hawkeye isn't a high priority under the current circumstances or, in some cases, a possibility. However, we do want to make that option more manageable for those fans who are seeking a diversion and are willing to cheer the Hawkeyes from these seat locations," Barta said.

"We're also eager to provide fans an opportunity to show their support for Todd's young and talented team while helping us fill Carver-Hawkeye. The energy they will bring to the Arena and to our team on game night could be the difference between a win or a loss."

Barta also said the sale of the discounted tickets will help the UI Athletics Department narrow the gap between budgeted and actual revenue for the 2008-09 year. He also noted that Big Ten Conference peers Indiana and Ohio State are among the institutions responding to the current economic reality with similar ticket offers. Both athletic departments are selling $5 tickets to their home men's basketball games in the balconies of their arenas.

The offer of a $10 reserved seat ticket for the general public comes a week after current UI students were offered the opportunity to purchase tickets to the last five home games for the Hawkeyes at the discounted price of $40 - $8 per game.

Also, the UI Athletic Department will announce Thursday in an e-mail to all current UI students who purchased either a student season ticket or the five-game "March to March" ticket package that they will be allowed to bring a friend to each of the remaining home games for free.

I have an equally good idea - don't lose to Indiana.

Ok, it's not terrible, but bad enough to cause me to remember I wanted to chew my arm off while watching them puke all over themselves the last 5 minutes Saturday. Coming from ahead is always painful, but particularly so when your team looks like a bunch of 5th graders. They're looking for a blog war and you all need to determine if you want to engage. OPS' also needs to fix his fucking computer, but that's another issue. Is this goddamn thing 75 words yet?
