Lone Star Ball Rangers featured on This Week in Baseball (9/26)

According to this article, several Rangers will be featured on Saturday's episode of This Week in Baseball.

The longest-running sports anthology show in television history, which airs at 2:30 p.m. CT on FOX, will take viewers on a tour of the pregame activities at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington with young star Ian Kinsler, analyze how Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan has turned back the clock on his pitching staff and delve into Ivan Rodriguez's celebrated return to Texas.

Before there was Baseball Tonight, we only got our baseball fix once a week.

The greatness of Mel Allen narrated the show.  His catchphrase was "How About That!".  He was one of the many commentators in the baseball scene at the end of The Naked Gun in 1989.  You can watch that hilarious clip here.

Disappointed by tonight's rain out, I ran across an old Calvin and Hobbes comic strip. I miss the days of my childhood with ghost runners, and getting to bat again.

Congratulations to former Ranger greats Ruben Sierra and Toby Harrah.

The team should also induct Tom Grieve and Chuck Morgan at some point as well.

Lone Star Ball Updated: Ft Worth Rangers Ticket/Team Shop

Over the past several months, the Rangers have been renovating a retail space at 316 Main Street, just North of Razzoo's, in downtown Fort Worth.  I stopped by there today at lunch, and it looks done.

The store will open for business at 10am on April 15th.  Inside, there are caps, t-shirts, jerseys, baseballs, and other Rangers stuff.

According to this Sundance Square website, the hours will be:

Monday - Thursday:   10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Friday & Saturday:     10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Sunday:                       12 p.m. - 6 p.m.

The official Rangers Press Release can be found here.

"We feel that Fort Worth is a very important market for the Rangers," commented club President Nolan Ryan. "Adding a team store in the heart of Sundance Square will give fans a convenient way to purchase Rangers merchandise and tickets."

The facility will also serve as a full service ticket office, accommodating both individual game purchases and season ticket holder sales and exchanges.

This weekend, the Main Street Arts Festival will be taking place.   If you're planning on coming to that, be sure to check it out.

The Star Telegram has a write up and a picture here.

The Rangers are Excited about 2009

The Rangers have produced this 9 minute video as a message to its season ticket holders. It is narrated by Nolan Ryan and the great Chuck Morgan.

Watch the video to see:

* Nolan Ryan's perspective on this past season and the team's top priority – improving the pitching staff

* A look back at the most exciting moments of the 2008 season, including many dramatic walk-off wins by the Rangers

* Performances by the best nucleus of everyday players in baseball – Josh Hamilton, Milton Bradley, Michael Young, and Ian Kinsler

* Highlights of our exciting young players, including Chris Davis and David Murphy, who proved themselves beyond expectations

* Previews of our talented young position players and promising pitchers in the Rangers' minor league system, currently ranked one of the strongest in all of Major League Baseball

* An interesting perspective on the positive future of the Rangers from Hall of Famer and noted TV baseball analyst Joe Morgan

This is going to make my Ranger pants go crazy. I work just a few blocks from where this is going to open. Santa Claus just came early this year. Like Juando, I am hoppy cited.

I have not been the Dallas Retail Office, so I have no idea what to expect. I'd appreciate any comments from those of you that have.

The Rangers will be honoring Tom Grieve, Eric Nadel, and Linda Kaye (former Ranger photographer) during their Hall of Fame weekend in a couple of weeks.

There won't be any Hall of Fame inductees again this season.

Why wouldn't the team induct Grieve and Nadel? Do they have to wait until they retire? I don't understand this.

"In the Air. Right Field. Heading Up. Heading Out. Ballgaaaaame!" Then, 50 seconds of cheering. No commentary necessary. Good job, Josh and Tom to let the video and scene speak for itself.

This is why I am a Texas Rangers fan.
