I'm the executive director of a nonprofit corporation, and a rabid, crazy, albeit long distance Bronco fan. I'm not too far from retirement, and thinking about doing so in Boise, so that I can get season tickets and watch the Broncos in person (instead of on the computer or on ESPN). Just have to talk my wife into it, or if that doesn't work, leave her in Virginia! She thinks I'm a wack-job anyway because of my fanatical loyalty to all things Bronco, so that might be for the best!
GO BRONCOS!!

IN HONOR OF MUNSON
Tom,
I mentioned in an OBNUG post a few weeks ago that my daughter was on the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life organizing committee at her college. I also mentioned that I was going to honor you and your battle with cancer with a lighted luminary at this event. This picture is of your luminary. All the luminaria were positioned around the school's indoor track, and the luminary ceremony started with all the lights turned off, so that all that was illuminated were these many luminaria. As all the RFL participants walked a lap and viewed them, each luminary name was displayed, one at a time, on the huge indoor screen. Your name along with the others were shown in a continual loop for at least 10 minutes. This was a very powerful event, and I was very gratified to be able to honor you in this manner. I also requested luminaria in honor of my wife, father, and mother-in-law, all who have battled this terrible illness.
My family and I are thinking and praying for you and your family, and I look forward to future posts from you on OBNUG.
Take care,
Steve Parker (typhoonblue)
How "Bout Them Hoos!!
I have to give a proud shout-out to my alma mater for winning the NCAA lacrosse national championship! Now if the # 1-seeded baseball team can do the same thing next month, and the Broncos follow that up with a football national title, my life would truly be complete. Not to worry about my loyalty; I'd trade all of that lacrosse and baseball stuff for another BCS game for the Broncos. Come to think of it, I'd trade my wife for a BCS national championship for Bronco Nation! (Fortunately, she's not an OBNUG reader, though she does dig on Mr. Fiskers!)
Layin' Down Some Texas-Sized Braggin' on My PK-ing Nephew!
With many high schools now in the midst of spring practice, and with the Broncos recently signing two recruits for 2012, I thought it a good time to give a Bronco shout-out to my place kicking nephew, Ryan Parker. Ryan plays for The Woodlands HS Highlanders in (you guessed it!) The Woodlands, Texas. The Highlanders (4000+ students) are perennial participants in the state football 5A playoffs. Ryan, who will be graduating in the spring of 2012, participated in a recent Ray Guy Kicking Academy camp, winning both the longest distance and most accurate FG competitions. (See link to article below.) His winning kick was a 55-yarder, though last year Ryan's longest "in game" FG was from 57 yards out. He routinely strokes 'em through from 60+ yards in practice. Ryan possesses that peculiar kicker mentality necessary for consistent success. After school one day in 2009, he won a $100 bet from 3 friends, after popping a "hit or miss" 60-yarder while in street clothes. That's what I call chutzpah! In addition to his kicking duties, Ryan will be competing for a starting WR position this fall with the HIghlanders. He also happens to be a helluva lot smarter than his Bronco and OBNUG-loving uncle. He scored a 32 ACT and 1340 SAT last fall, ranks 9th in his class of 930 students, and after graduating plans to pursue a degree in engineering. If BSU's incoming scholarship kicker doesn't pan out, I'll try to talk Ryan into becoming a part of Bronco Nation!

VT Choke Job (Thanks, Guys!)
JAMES MADISON - 21
VT - 16
GREAT JOB, HOKIES; YOU JUST DESTROYED ALL OF THE CRED THE BRONCOS RECEIVED FROM MONDAY NITE. JAMES MADISON IS A FREAKIN' CHAMPIONSHIP SUBDIVISION TEAM! THE HOKIES ARE WORTHLESS!! CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR WHAT ALL THE BRONCO HATERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE BRONCOS' LABOR DAY WIN. TECH DIDN'T DO BSU ANY FAVORS WITH THIS CHOKE-JOB SORRY-ASS PERFORMANCE. IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE GOING TO MAIL IN THE REST OF THE SEASON. WONDERFUL.
Just supposin'.............
If Alabama and Ohio State both choke up a furball (whoops; sorry, Mr. Fiskers!) this weekend, the Broncos would climb to the top of the totem pole without having to even play a down! This would be very ironic for a program which over the past 10 years has had to scratch and claw (is that better, Mr. Fiskers?) its way to achieve the hard-earned respect they richly deserve. I would love to hear Mark May bitching and whining on ESPN about this chain of events! Sweet, indeed! Go Nittany Lions!! Go Hurricanes!!
GOD IS INDEED A BRONCO!!
Not a day has gone by since the Fiesta Bowl victory that Bronco Nation has not agonized over the oppressive heat and humidity the Broncos were going to be coping with on Monday night. Hokie fans have also taken great delight in exclaiming how FedEx Field would be a "House of Horrors" for our beloved Broncos due to the dreaded "H & H". This concern has turned into the biggest joke going! As a Virginian, I stated back in February that while oppressive heat and humidity are a common occurrence in DC during the month of September, game day could (with a little assistance from The Almighty) very well feel like an early fall day.
I REST MY CASE (while also rededicating my faith):
DC WEATHER FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6: (according to the Weather Channel)
Humidity: 35%
Game Time Temperature: 78 (will feel like 79)
9:00 PM Temp: 76 (will feel lile 78)
10:00 PM Temp: 75 (wil feel like 75)
11:00 PM Temp: 74 (will feel like 74)
The point of all this: THE BRONCOS ARE ON A MISSION FROM GOD!!
KW's Draft Projection by LA Times
Check out this draft projection for KW by LA Times columnist Sam Farmer. He is obviously a very astute and intelligent sportswriter! (But still not on par with OBNUG's "Big 3" !) That would be Kevan, Nick, and Drew! I dissed Kevan on the latest BNP (last subject discussed on the podcast), so I've got to do some major sucking up in order to not be banned from OBNUG. I was just kidding, Kevan!
Virginia Tech linebacker Barquell Rivers to miss five-to-six months with torn quad tendon
Tech linebacker Barquell Rivers suffered a torn tendon in his left quadriceps muscle Wednesday during winter max weightlifting testing, according to a release from Tech’s athletic department.Rivers, a 6-foot-0, 237-pound rising junior from Wadesboro, N.C. who started all 13 games last season for Tech, underwent surgery Thursday. He’s expected to miss five-to-six months, including all of spring practice. He’s questionable to be ready in August for the start of fall practice, but he’s expected to make a full recovery.
"Knowing Barquell Rivers, with his toughness and raw strength, we are confident he will have a successful rehab over the summer and will be back to help us in the 2010 season," Tech trainer Mike Goforth said in the release.
Rivers finished last season with 96 tackles, which was second on the team and represents the highest returning tackle total on Tech’s defense. With Rivers on the sideline for the spring, rising sophomore Bruce Taylor may get the bulk of the first team work at Rivers’ inside linebacker spot.

BCS Committee Meeting
Seantrel Henderson
The February 5th online edition of the Sporting News had an interesting article on Seantrel Henderson, who's ranked as the # 1 offensive lineman in the 2010 recruiting class. He has verbally committed to USC, but will not sign a LOI until he sees how USC fares with their NCAA investigation. If the Trojans get hammered, this kid in all likelihood will decommit from USC. The only other schools he's considering are Ohio State and Miami. Just for the hell of it, Coach Pete should contact Henderson, and talk to him about Ryan Clady's development while at BSU. Better yet, Petersen should have Clady give Henderson a call! He's the best right tackle in the NFL, and should be able to get this kid to at least take a look at the Broncos. All uncommitted recruits have until April 1st to sign, so Coach Pete would have plenty of time to go after this kid. Of course, Henderson might be one of those elite high school athlete pains-in-the-ass, which in that case the Broncos would be better off without.
What do all you other OBNUGer's think about this?
