Love Triangles & Jackson's MMA feuds among new details from Donald Cerrone backstage brawl
More information is coming in about the Donald Cerrone vs. Marcus Sursa backstage brawl over the weekend.
The Na Koa MMA Podcast :first reported the scuffle which occurred at a local New Mexico card.
Details include: the history between Marcus Sursa and Donald Cerrone, the name of the girl in they were fighting over and her ties to the MMA community and Sursa's past altercations with Team Jackson fight team members
ULTMMA.com (www.ULTMMA.com) spoke with multiple sources on the scene of the fight between Cerrone and Sursa. A history between the two MMA fighters exists beyond the night of the alleged incident.
The crux of the argument began with an apparent love triangle between Cerrone, Sursa, and former Shark Fights ring girl Lindsey Sheffield. Sheffield dated Sursa than Cerrone. Cerrone's love life has previously made headlines with his past relationship with WEC ring girl Brittney Palmer. Sheffield no longer works for Shark Fights.
Sursa, a Texas based heavyweight, was roommates with Cerrone and featherweight contender Leonard Garcia for approximately one month in the fighter's New Mexico home.

Former EliteXC matchmaker JT Steele Tackles Amateur MMA in CA
via store.gujo.tv
In August 2009 the state of California officially delegated to CAMO (California Amateur MMA Organization) the exclusive authority to regulate Amateur Mixed Martial Arts and Pankration in the State of California.
The movers behind CAMO are former EliteXC matchmaker JT Steele as well as former EliteXC head of fight operations Jeremy Lappen. All across the US amateur MMA is often overlooked by state regulators.
Does a organization like CAMO in California help amateur MMA or just provide more hoops for promoters and fighters to jump through?
Excerpt from interview below
Full interview with the President of CAMO JT Steele here
ULTMMA: What are the biggest misconceptions people have about CAMO?
Steele: That's a good question. We are a new organization and the concept of amateur mixed martial arts is a new concept. Some people don't understand and they may not be sure what role amateur MMA has in the world of MMA right now. Really the story right now is still being written. I think the biggest misconception is maybe more of a misconception of what amateur MMA is.
A lot of people don't know about us yet. We have a strong brand presence, but outside of the state people may not understand. It's really important for people to understand that we are a regulatory body and that's what we do is regulate. We bring structure to the amateur sport and we bring health and safety standards. I think if anything is misunderstood is our role as a governing body rather than a sanctioning body or promoter.
ULTMMA: Can the template for CAMO be applied to other states such as Ohio, New Jersey, or Texas?
Steele: I think it can be used all over the board. A couple of those states you mentioned, Ohio have a very dynamic and large amateur program. Some places it might be needed more than in others. Where I think it could be more helpful is in states that are in the same predicament that CA is in, that don't have any amateur regulation going on or its illegal or the state might be turning a blind eye to it and letting it go unregulated. Those are the type of places where this model can be very good.
That being said we are 501 © (3) nonprofit corporation and traditionally amateur sports have been regulated by these types of organizations. You look at the different type of organizations like USA amateur boxing is the same thing as well as a lot of the Olympic sports and the NCAA. Being a nongovernmental body we are able to react, adapt and change very quickly. In a sport like amateur MMA that is so new it really helps to that flexibility.
Dave "Pee Wee" Herman returns to cage to take on prospect Bryan Humes in Nov.
With his legal troubles with Bellator FC behind him it looks like Dave Herman (20-2) will return to the local Midwest MMA scene for his next fight.
Two of the best heavyweights outside of the UFC and Strikeforce are expected to square off at Ruckus Entertainment's fourth MMA show set to take place in Addison, Illinois.
ULTMMA.com (www.ULTMMA.com) has learned from sources close to the situation of a proposed match-up between Dave "Pee Wee" Herman (20-2) and Bryan Humes (6-1) is in the works for Ruckus 4. The heavyweight clash would serve as the main event for a card scheduled for Wednesday November 24th.
With only two fights so far in 2010, expect Herman to resume to the more active schedule he had during his 2007 and 2008 runs. MMA fans last saw Bryan Humes (6-1) do battle with UFC vet Paul Buentello for three hard rounds back in May at Shark Fights 11.
Should be a good test for both big men.

ULTMMA.com: Talk about the difference between being a coach and being a dad. Where do you draw that line?
Randy Couture: Well Dad doesn't really play into to it in this situation. You have to stay objective and do your job. You're his eyes and ears in a lot of ways on the outside. He's got a good crew of guys here at Xtreme Couture. We've been working a lot on his kickboxing. He's ready to. He's worked hard. It should be fun.
ULTMMA: Watching him in the ring, do you see similarities to yourself? What do you see that is different?
Couture: He's got a unique style. Obviously he's fighting at 155. He's finished most of his fights by submission. He's a very good submission guy. He's got a decent wrestling background. His striking is pretty good. If, I were to categorize him he would be a submission guy.

Couture does give a nice breakdown of James Toney’s stand-up skills as they relate to MMA and he reveals which member of Xtreme Couture has been assigned to imitate Toney during training camp.

Looks like Miesha Tate's tournment run landed her the biggest payout of the night at Strikeforce Challengers 10 in Phoenix. Tate earned a total of $18,000 for a single's night work.
Also of note is that fact each tournament fight was treated as a single fight rather than the grand prix participants getting booked just for a appearance fee.
