to promote equality in the olympic track events, the IOC has eliminated the indivudal persuit, points race, and madison from the 2012 London Games.

what remains are 5 events each for the men and the women (as opposed to 7 for the men and 3 for the women at beijing):

    individual sprint
    team sprint
    keirin
    team pursuit
    omnium (3km individual pursuit, 200 metre sprint, 1km time trial, 15km points race and a 5km scratch race)

- Flying lap (250-metre time trial)
- Points race (men: 30 km, women: 20 km)
- Individual pursuit (men: 4 km, women: 3 km)
- Scratch race (men: 15 km, women: 10 km)
- Kilometre time trial (men), 500-metre time trial (women)
- Elimination race (24 starters)

in an effort to bring parity to the men's and women's olympic track program, the uci is proposing radical changes to the olympic track program for the london 2012 games. the revamp would include eliminating the individual pursuits, points, and madison. instead, there would be five events each for the women and the men: individual sprint, team sprint, keirin, team pursuit, and an omnium.

for those such as i not familiar with the term omnium, wikipedia describes it as "a multiple race event in which all contestants compete against each other in five different disciplines."  the uci is looking at the flying 200m time trial, a points race, a scratch race, and an individual pursuit for the 2012 omnium.

final decision is suppose to be determined by 12 december 2009.

Today's stage is another long haul (239.7km) from NAŁĘCZÓW to RZESZÓW. A little hillier/bumpier than the early stages, with what looks like 1 sprint and a flat 3x5.9km closing circuit.
